And relates to earth processes/the cycles of nature, the transitions of matter. It also resonates with Donna Haraway's Staying with the Trouble. The song addresses a collective struggle, such as that arising from climate change or manifested through war, while also delving into the theme of continuous and ongoing metamorphosis.

ABOUT AMATORSKI
Founded by Inne Eysermans when she was 19, fronted by her vocals, keyboards and compositions, Amatorski emerged in 2010-11 with a self-released EP and an album which reached the top ten sales chart in Belgium and the Netherlands. Amatorski are soon acclaimed as THE revelation of the new Belgian scene, start touring in Germany, the UK, France, Switzerland & Spain, and perform shows in New York and Beijing.
Amatorski's previous releases include the Same Stars We Shared EP (2010), the albums TBC (2012) and From Clay to Figures (2014), and several singles (2015-2017). They composed soundtracks for films and television (including the title track for the BBC series The Missing), and explored the boundaries of music, internet, and video art in their interactive multimedia project Deleting Borders. They wrote and performed an original soundtrack for Impatience, the 1928 pioneering experimental film by Charles Dekeukeleire, and released the performance-cum-film on a DVD.

The new album, due out almost exactly a year after their acclaimed release, 1982, is further evidence of the mentality that defines A Certain Ratio, one that has always set them apart from their peers – a dogged, relentless demand to evolve, re-assess and reinvent with every new release. After the confident, sprawling, pan-genre strut of 1982 and a tour that celebrated 45 years of ACR performing live, comes this new record from completely out of leftfield. The record's ten tracks present ten distinct moods, every bursting moment of it is defiantly, resiliently alive. It All Comes Down to This, for now at least, is the sound of the current incarnation of A Certain Ratio. The purest distillation of their essential sound ever committed to tape, and the first time they have recorded as just the core trio of principle band members – multi-instrumentalists Jez Kerr, Martin Moscrop and Donald Johnson.
"It's the Ratio removing the safety net," Kerr says, explaining the decision to strip away the excess and return to the band's base ingredients. "Every element of everything we've done on this album has been a change."
"It wasn't a matter of rubbing everyone else out, it was, 'let's find the thing that makes us work'," adds Johnson. "And we know that's just the three of us being as basic as possible – no frills, no major overdubs. Just visceral and happening in the moment."
The other essential difference between It All Comes Down to This and its immediate predecessors is the recording process: after already working together on a remix for Loco Remezclada (2021), the band turned to the doyen of contemporary underground rock producers, Dan Carey (Black Midi, Kae Tempest, Black Country New Road) to work on the album. Known for his rejection of sonic clutter and his uncompromising focus on the central tenets of the bands and artists he produces, Carey's instincts closely aligned with ACR's desire to return to the basics.
By honing in on the band's essential building blocks, Carey has teased out a brittle, inner darkness that has always been latent in ACR, but not always at the surface. And if there is a residual darkness in the album's sonic aesthetic, then it pervades the subject matter, too.
"We wrote the album while the world was in turmoil," explains Moscrop. "Which it still is. If you think about climate change, corporate war, the environment, Trump in power, Johnson, the Ukraine war, Israel and Palestine, it really does all come down to this. It's probably the most political album we've written."
In addition, Jez Kerr was dealing with specific personal darkness after an accident left him with a broken pelvis and fractured hip, and, on the day he was released from hospital, he contracted septic arthritis. His recovery meant that the recording of the album was delayed by six months, and the lasting impact of the experience inevitably dictates part of the album's mood.
Far from deterred, though, Kerr, Moscrop and Johnson have come through with a renewed mission statement, and this spring the trio will be joined on bass by Viv Griffin for an extensive UK tour. The band intend to play the album in its glorious entirety, an endeavour they have never previously attempted, underscoring the unrivalled cohesion that this particular body of work possesses. Many jewels from the past will also adorn the set lists too, and, like ever, reworked and remodelled, the band proud of their past, rather than dependent upon it – full details below.
As a snapshot of where A Certain Ratio stand in 2024, It All Comes Down to This is a towering testament to their staying power. For a band whose path has intersected with the lives of Joy Division, The Fall, Talking Heads, Madonna and Grace Jones, to now be immersed in their most creative and prolific period since the early 1980s, puts the great majority of their contemporaries to shame. But then again, when you have always been preoccupied with laying the groundwork for your next steps, you're unlikely ever to derive much satisfaction from standing still.

ESNS 2024 - Groningen, 17 - 24 January 2024 - Sziget wint European Festival Award in Groningen
Sziget Festival viel woensdagavond in de prijzen tijdens de prestigieuze European Festival Awards. Het Hongaarse festival won in de categorie 'Take a Stand' en werd daarmee geroemd om de betrokkenheid en het op de kaart zetten van sociale en maatschappelijke kwesties. De uitreiking vond plaats tijdens Eurosonic Noorderslag in Groningen.
De jury prijst Sziget omdat het belangrijke vraagstukken als klimaatverandering, migratie, mentale gezondheid en innovatie aan weet te kaarten gedurende het festival. Daarnaast erkent de jury de toewijding aan het bevorderen van tolerantie, acceptatie en inclusiviteit en het vieren van de diversiteit. Dit is met name van groot belang in een Europese regio waar dergelijke kwesties onder vuur liggen.
Tamás Kádár, CEO van Sziget Festival, zegt: "Sinds ons begin staat Sziget voor acceptatie, tolerantie en individuele vrijheid. Deze waarden, die het 'DNA van Sziget' vormen, uiten we onder meer met The Island of Freedom, Love Revolution en het onlangs gelanceerde Free to Be. Al dertig jaar zijn dit belangrijke fundamentele principes van ons festival.'' Sziget werd onlangs ook al geprezen om haar duurzaamheidsinitiatieven en daarvoor beloond met de 'A Greener Future-certificering'.

Na het veelgeprezen album 'Afraid To Leave' uit 2021 nodigden de Berlijnse post punkers Bleib Modern bevriende artiesten uit om een ander perspectief op hun tracks te geven. Dit resulteerde in de '2 Afraid 2 Leave' compilatie, met remixen en bewerkingen door gewaardeerde namen binnen de darkwave-, post-punk- en EBM muziekscène. Het album bevat bijdragen van The KVB, The Underground Youth, M!R!M, Dune Messiah, IV Horsemen, Blind Delon, Shad Shadows en diverse zijprojecten van Bleib Modern bandleden.

There are those who arrive on the scene fully formed, immediately claiming their own bright corner in a universe of possibilities. And then there are those whose potential and personality can be felt from the outset, but who consider their trajectory a laboratory of possibilities. Not to suggest that they start humbly and slowly become better at their jobs, but some keep enriching and refining their position with each new step. Bram De Looze is certainly one of those musicians, always on the lookout for new options, detours and possibilities to expand his own sound.
His latest solo album 'Spotting Gateways' is built around an eternal challenge and personal aim while creating music: daring to keep the music open enough in the moment itself and stay close and connect to the higher potential it can offer.
Bram De Looze on the album and creative process: "The title 'Spotting Gateways' refers to the creating process in the months prior to the recording dates. Many days I was spending time on finding musical material, without writing anything down, only listening to what the sound suggests. I started recording myself doing this and thus collecting all different kinds of seeds for making music with. The process of finding these musical seeds are very precious moments. Almost every time it comes as a surprise thanks to the subconscious mind. It is very addictive.
All these recordings, at home or elsewhere, were the beginning of creating this album. On purpose I tried to write down as less as I could so I didn't loose the specific vibe I found due to changes in tempo or dynamics or energy. I was being very sensitive to the specificity of the music. As many musicians know, reading while playing makes you play very different, becoming less sensitive and less aware of the impact that certain ingredients in the music have.
Mostly I don't change much to the 'seed' or compose more out of it. Instead, I improvise with it. A seed functions as a gateway to enter a specific zone in music for a while. Deciding the form in the moment happens frequently, depending on where the take is going it is only possible because the seed is strong and clear enough. I felt this was the way to go, looking for a place through which you have to go in order to get to a very particular area."

Dit nummer is geschreven ter nagedachtenis aan Niels Groeneveld. Het lijkt niet eerlijk als mensen 'voor hun tijd' overlijden. Het confronteert ons met het feit dat we geen controle over de belangrijkste dingen in het leven hebben zoals geboorte en dood. Ze maken deel uit van het mysterie van het leven.
Ivan en Mariska Lie-A-Ling van de band Von Veh hebben meegewerkt aan dit nummer. Het atonale en snerpende gitaarwerk van Ivan draagt bij aan het donkere karakter en de engelachtige stem van Mariska drukt ons met de neus op de feiten van onze sterfelijkheid en de ogenschijnlijke willekeur daarvan. Het trombone arrangement is van Ivan en gespeeld door Jel Jongen van de Jay Horns.
Voor de videoclip van The Cards We Draw (met Von Veh) werkte Tobias Bader samen met de AI-kunstenaar Amalia de la Vega van Dead End Gallery.

Garifuna news - Cleymans & Van Geel - nieuw album uit, ‘Morgen beter’
Cleymans & Van Geel hebben een nieuw album uit, ‘Morgen beter’. De cd komt uit op 1 maart 2024 en de dag nadien vindt de aftrap plaats van de gelijknamige theatertournee in cultuurcentrum De Werf in Aalst.
Jelle Cleymans en Jonas Van Geel moeten we niet meer voorstellen. Ze zijn vrienden. Ze zijn zelfs beste vrienden. Noem ze gerust bloedbroeders. Dat zijn ze niet alleen aan de toog van het café, maar ook al meer dan 15 jaar op de planken.
Na de cd’s Cleymans & Van Geel en ‘We kunnen ons redden’ pakken de heren uit met een nieuw album.
Voor het eerst gaan ze nu ook met hun muziek de theaters in. Iets intiemer dan we van hen gewoon zijn op de grote festivalpodia, maar daarom niet minder sfeervol.

Virgin music news - Brusselse rapper Shay deelt derde album ‘Pourvu qu'il pleuve’
De reine van de Franstalige rap is terug met een nieuwe plaat. Pourvu qu'il pleuve is de vrucht van een rits mooie samenwerkingen; Shay liet zich omringen door de beste producers (Karmen, Noxious, Heezy Lee...) en performers (Gazo, Niska, SCH) in de Franse rap.
In een overwegend mannelijke hiphopscene heeft Shay zich niet alleen gevestigd als een volleerde rapper, maar ook als leider. Ze creëerde haar eigen stijl, startte zelf een label en beslist over elk detail van haar artistieke uitingen. Het resultaat is een gepolijst geluid en een uniek visueel universum, zoals te zien in de indrukwekkende videoclips voor Commando, Jolie Go en Sans Coeur.

Virgin music news - David Kushner deelt nieuwe single ‘Skin and Bones’
De 23-jarige Amerikaanse zanger, songwriter en multi-instrumentalist David Kushner vertolkt met pen en microfoon tijdloze, intieme verhalen die bij miljoenen luisteraars een gevoelige snaar raken. Als een troubadour, maar haarfijn afgestemd op onze tijd. Op 14 april 2023 - na lang teasen - deelde hij de single Daylight met de wereld. Het nummer sloeg in als een bom en vond aansluiting bij miljoenen fans. Kushner werd daarmee prompt een wereldster. Na 39 weken schommelt Daylight nog altijd rond de vijftiende plek in de Belgische singles charts.
David Kushner deelt Skin and Bones, de vierde single van zijn aankomende debuutplaat. "Skin and Bones captures the electric tension of desire and redemption, exploring the thin line between ecstasy and salvation in the duality of love", aldus Kushner. Kushner werkt op zijn eerste plaat samen met zijn grootste inspiraties of de producers ervan: Wesley Schultz van The Lumineers, producer David Baron (Lana Del Rey, Shania Twain) en Rob Kirwan (Hozier, U2).

Even voorstellen – Geraldines, single ‘Out’, plaat ‘Real dinges’
GERALDINES DEELT SINGLE 'OUT' UIT AANKOMEND ALBUM 'REAL DINGES'
Rockband Geraldines uit Mechelen speelde zijn eerste shows in 2013. De groep bracht - na enkele EP's - in 2020 een eerste langspeler uit: 'NEVER WORRY ALWAYS WORRY'. Die plaat leverde goede recensies op, airplay op Studio Brussel en een aantal singles in Spotify-playlists als Indie Goesting en New Music Friday.
Helaas was 2020 ook het jaar van COVID. De meeste shows werden geannuleerd en de nummers op 'NEVER WORRY ALWAYS WORRY' kregen amper tijd op een podium. Na een paar schaarse festivalshows en met weinig voeling voor enkele recent gepende nummers, voelde de band in 2021 dat het op was. De stekker ging eruit en de bandleden focusten op andere dingen in het leven.
Maar hoe hard ze ook probeerden, de band definitief achterlaten lukte niet. Na heel wat gepalaver ontstond het idee voor 'REAL DINGES'. Een anagram voor de bandnaam, maar vooral synoniem voor een nieuw elan, met als grootste voorwaarde dat de band vollédig zijn eigen ding zou doen. Zonder rekening te houden met tijdsdruk, studio's, radiovriendelijkheid, gangbare songstructuren of andere remmingen. Kiezen voor de vriendschap en voor de muziek, heet dat.
Geraldines werkte aan tientallen nummers, kocht opnamemateriaal en gooide eerdere (dure) studio-opnames overboord. Alles deden ze zelf. De mooie songstructuren gingen eraan en het vet sneden ze van de nummers, tot alleen het puurste overbleef. Het resultaat moest muziek zijn waar alle bandleden achter staan en die perfect weergeeft wat Geraldines na tien jaar is. En dat is gelukt: 'REAL DINGES' is een indrukwekkend conceptalbum geworden met bijna twee dozijn uitgebeende creaties. Soms ruw en korter dan gangbaar is in het huidige streamingtijdperk, maar 100% authentiek. REAL DINGES.
'REAL DINGES' verschijnt in het najaar van 2024 via UhmYeahSure Records. 'Out' is de tweede single van de plaat. Vanaf april kruipt de band uit zijn repetitiekot om de nieuwe en oude nummers strakker dan ooit te brengen.

Virgin music news - Vintage Culture kondigt debuutalbum Promised Land aan met single ‘Weak’
Vintage Culture is een begrip in de wereld van de house. Vanuit de kleine gemeente Mundo Novo klom de Braziliaanse dj/producer op tot superster door zijn clevere songwriting, gepolijste producties en charismatische podiumprésence. DJ Mag riep hem in 2022 uit tot nummer één in de DJ Mag Top 100.
De Braziliaan slaat de handen ineen met de Ierse soulzanger Maverick Sabre en de Duitse producer Tom Breu voor zijn nieuwe single Weak, de derde van zijn nakende debuutplaat Promised Land. De precieze datum is nog niet bekend, maar het album verschijnt in 2024.
