"The God of Lying" feat. IDLES is het gloednieuwe nummer van Gorillaz, en het derde voorproefje van het komende studioalbum van de band, The Mountain.
Geschreven door Damon Albarn en Joe Talbot, en opgenomen in Londen, Devon en Mumbai, met Ajay Prasanna op bansuri en percussie van Viraj Acharya, laat "The God of Lying" de frontman van IDLES zijn kenmerkende charisma brengen in een dub-achtige zang die een reeks vragen opwerpt en weinig troost biedt. Dit weerspiegelt de onderliggende thema's van het album, verbonden met sociale en politieke spanningen.

The Mountain (release op vrijdag 20 maart) is het negende studioalbum van Gorillaz, een uitgestrekt klanklandschap vol instrumenten en geluiden, rijk gelaagd met stemmen, melodieën en meeslepende ritmes. Het album bevat 15 nummers die de essentie vormen van de samenwerkingsgeest van Gorillaz.

Sdban records - Belgian jazz-funk classic Open Sky Unit reissued by Sdban Records

The reissue of Open Sky Unit (1974), out today via Belgian label Sdban Records, brings new life to the timeless jazz fusion classic by the group of the same name, featuring Micheline and Jacques Pelzer, Steve Houben, Ron Wilson, Janot Buchem, and Michel Graillier. The album returns on vinyl, highlighting a pivotal moment in Belgian jazz history, where soul, funk, and free improvisation came together in a vibrant and family-driven project.

Formed in the early 1970s as a homage to Dave Liebman's group Open Sky, Open Sky Unit grew out of informal jam sessions in Liège, Belgium, into a unique collective. One of the central figures was Jacques Pelzer, father of drummer and vocalist Micheline Pelzer, alongside his second cousin, saxophonist/flutist Steve Houben, bass player Janot Buchem, percussionist Michel Graillier and American pianist/composer Ron Wilson.

Their 1974 debut album was released on the Duchesne classical music label, run by Pelzer's brother-in-law. The group's sound carefully balanced jazz and soul and was largely directed by Wilson, a Californian pianist and singer who settled in Liège and nearby Maastricht after his army service. Wilson composed the entire repertoire. Open Sky Unit was recorded live at Jazzland club in Liège, and the band made several short tours in Belgium and abroad (including Tunisia) until around 1975–1976, when Houben left for Boston to study at the Berklee College of Music.

Although the original live recording from 1974 was not technically perfect, the group succeeded in capturing their heartfelt live energy. Tracks such as Open Sky, Sunshine Star, and Passion and Compassion are striking examples of this. Years later, the album version of Sunshine Star found its way onto Funky Chicken (2014), the compilation that not only brought the track back into the spotlight but also marked the beginning of Sdban Records.

In addition to the standard reissue, a limited edition of 200 copies will be released for collectors, featuring a 7" single of Ron Wilson's Sunshine Star as a special bonus. This single was originally released in 1973 with the acoustic version of Sunshine Star (piano and vocals) on the B-side, recorded a few months before the longer jazz-funk version later featured on the LP Open Sky Unit. The A-side, Peace Is The Answer, was only released on that single at the time and is now being reissued for the very first time. The 7" is thus a faithful and long-awaited reissue of a rare piece of Belgian jazz history, it's intimate, soulful, and an ideal complement to the existing and well-known LP.

Although the band never achieved a major international breakthrough, they were highly valued in progressive European jazz circles and later secured a place in anthologies such as Utopic Cities: Progressive Jazz in Belgium 1968–1979. The reissue of Open Sky Unit brings their music back into the spotlight and reaffirms their role as key figures in the Belgian jazz scene of the seventies.

The reissue of Open Sky Unit is out now via Sdban Records, with a limited edition of 200 copies including a 7" single by Ron Wilson.

Even voorstellen - Belgische metalband Temptations for the Weak strikt Amerikaanse metalcore-legende Jesse Leach (Killswitch Engage) voor nieuwe single “Crossroads”

De Belgische metalband Temptations for the Weak brengt op 4 november hun nieuwe single “Crossroads” uit. Voor deze release wist de band niemand minder dan Jesse Leach, frontman van het iconische Killswitch Engage, te strikken als gastzanger. “Crossroads” is de tweede single van het aankomende album “The Venom Inside”, dat in het voorjaar van 2026 verschijnt.

Na het succes van “Silver Lining” trekt Temptations for the Weak opnieuw alle registers open. De samenwerking met Jesse Leach – een absolute pionier binnen het metalcoregenre – is voor de band een droom die uitkomt.

De productie van zowel “Crossroads” als het volledige nieuwe album werd verzorgd door Scott Atkins, bekend van zijn werk met onder andere Machine Head, Cradle of Filth, Sylosis en Behemoth.

Three times hooray! Legendary Humo's Rock Rally winner "The Hickey Underworld" has been reborn in its original formation. Younes Faltakh (vocals, guitar), Jonas Govaerts (guitar), Yorgos Tsakiridis (bas) and Jimmy Wouters (drums) have been busy working on their fourth studio album which will be named "Cold Sun" set for release on 13 march 2026 via V2 Records. With frontman Younes Faltakh whistling to the tune of falling missiles, "Euromancer", the first track off the upcoming new album, will have you dancing in the radioactive ash.

What you've got at home, though, is Euromancer — a timely new war dance by The Hickey Underworld, ungently stirred from a decade-long cryo-sleep. 
With guitars detuned to Sonic Youth and a breakbeat boosted from The Prodigy, Euromancer drags you back to the halcyon days of the Judgement Night soundtrack — when you could still choke on a Flippo, porn came mostly on paper, and flannel shirts knew their goddamn place: tied loosely around a pudgy white boy's waist.

Single
The Hickey Underworld  was founded by childhood friends Younes Faltakh and Jonas Govaerts. They named themselves after a song by The Nation of Ulysses, one of their favorite bands on Dischord Records, the legendary indie label of Fugazi frontman Ian MacKaye.
That Dischord influence is clearly audible on their self-titled debut album, released in 2009 on the French label Naïve. The album, produced by Bent Van Looy, Niek Meul, and Reinhard Vanbergen of Das Pop, also revealed the band's more pop-oriented side — particularly in the breakout single "Future Words," which received heavy airplay.

From the beginning, the band paid great attention to their visual identity. The singles "Blonde Fire" and "Future Words" came with grotesque, surreal music videos — both shot by Nicolas Karakatsanis, the award-winning cinematographer behind Bullhead (Rundskop) and Cruella, and an early fan of The Hickey Underworld.
Three years later came their second album, I'm Under The House, I'm Dying (2012, PIAS), again produced by Das Pop and mixed by Dave Sardy, former frontman of Barkmarket — another hero of Faltakh and Govaerts. For the first time, Arabic sounds began to seep into their music, an element that Faltakh, who is half Tunisian, would explore further in his side project Arabnormal.
In 2015, the band released Ill on the same label, recorded by Niels Hendrix (Fence). The title proved somewhat prophetic: Jonas Govaerts developed a chronic hearing disorder and was temporarily replaced by Tim Van Hamel, the driving force behind Millionaire. Not long after the recordings, Faltakh decided to pull the plug on the group.

Fast forward to 2023: during the lockdown, the itch returned. Faltakh, drummer Jimmy Wouters, and bassist Yorgos Tsakiridis found their way back to the rehearsal room. Original member Jonas Govaerts also rejoined. The band recorded two standalone singles in Millionaire drummer Damien Vanderhasselt's studio — "Living On Big Foot" and "Wall On The Fly" — and reappeared on stage at several festivals that summer.

Not only was the desire back, but also the inspiration: soon after, The Hickey Underworld began recording their long-awaited fourth album. The sessions took place partly with Vanderhasselt and partly in Sweden, where producer Niek Meul has a studio. The band chose Cold Sun as the title — also the opening track of the album.

The reborn Hickey Underworld found a new home with V2 Records, which will release several singles starting in November, followed by the full album in March. Also planned: a visual teaser created by Govaerts, and a music video directed by the American art collective Everything Is Terrible.

Even voorstellen - The Owls And Orcas zetten met hun nieuwe single ‘Having A Good Time’ opnieuw hun veelzijdigheid in de kijker 

 Uilen en orka’s, veel verder kunnen twee diersoorten haast niet uit elkaar liggen. Maar zet ze op een podium en je krijgt The Owls And Orcas, een alternatieve rockband die moeiteloos schakelt tussen breekbare ballads, groovy gitaarpop en krachtige rockopera, vaak zelfs binnen één nummer. 

Op 2 november brachten de owls hun nieuwe single ‘Having A Good Time’ uit, een datum die stilaan een vaste waarde wordt voor de band. Het nummer lijkt op het eerste gehoor een vrolijke, dansbare popsong, maar achter die aanstekelijke groove schuilt een diepere laag. Zanger Wannes van Mol zingt over zijn eerste studentenjaren en het gevoel er niet helemaal bij te horen. Over de dagelijkse strijd om je aan te passen aan een nieuwe omgeving, enkel om aansluiting te vinden. Want hoewel iedereen zegt dat je studententijd de mooiste periode van je leven is, bereidt niemand je erop voor dat die tijd ook onzeker, eenzaam en confronterend kan zijn. Zeker wanneer je in een vreemde stad of een ander land zoekt naar een plek die als thuis voelt. 

Met dit nummer blijven The Owls And Orcas trouw aan hun unieke stijl, die ook terug te horen is in eerdere nummers als ‘Courtroom’, ‘You Never Learn’ en ‘Worth The Wait’. De band, bestaande uit Wannes van Mol (zang/bas), Lode Fraussen (gitaar) en Bas Mertens (drums), put uit uiteenlopende muzikale achtergronden zoals jazz, rock en funk. Die mix vertaalt zich in songs die verder kijken dan voorspelbare structuren en een verfrissende dynamiek uitstralen. 

De kortste weg naar populariteit is voor hen niet het doel. Muzikaal vakmanschap in functie van creativiteit wél. Daarmee volgen ze sporen van artiesten als Radiohead en Jeff Buckley, en brengen ze live optredens die vaak uitgroeien tot meeslepende muzikale ervaringen. Onvermoeibaar treden ze op in Vlaanderen en Nederland, en met hun nieuwe single krijgt hun groeiende reputatie opnieuw een stevige duw in de rug. En hier stopt het duidelijk niet, er lijkt nog veel aan te komen van de owls… 

‘Having A Good Time’ is daarmee niet alleen een nieuwe release, maar ook een treffende weerspiegeling van wie The Owls And Orcas vandaag zijn: een band die blijft evolueren, zonder hun eigenheid te verliezen.

"Ik begin opnieuw. Nog een keer." De show op zaterdag 9 mei, die Bazart begin deze week aankondigde, vult zich in sneltempo. Daarom voegt de band nog een extra concert toe op zondag 10 mei in de Lotto Arena in Antwerpen! Tickets zijn meteen beschikbaar via livenation.be.

Na hun verrassingsoptreden onder het pseudoniem 'Exit' op Pukkelpop deze zomer en de daaropvolgende 'Exit Club Tour', waarin het trio in een recordtempo uitverkochte shows speelde in kleine clubs in België en Nederland, keert Bazart terug naar het grote podium. De band staat, na een stillere periode, terug dichter dan ooit bij hun fans.

Op het podium van Pukkelpop stelde de band voor het eerst hun nieuwe single "Begin Opnieuw" voor. Het nummer gaat over loslaten, herbeginnen en verdergaan. Het is Bazart op z'n eerlijkst en is de eerste single van een gloednieuw album dat in het voorjaar van 2026, op 23 april om precies te zijn, zal uitkomen. De plaat volgt kleppers 'Echo', '2' en 'Onderweg' op. En zoals hun alias 'EXIT' reeds op Pukkelpop aangaf: het markeert het einde van een hoofdstuk, maar bewijst dat er na regen wel degelijk goud aan de rand van de zon te zien valt.

Met hun ijzersterke live reputatie, hernieuwde energie én verse muziek in het vooruitzicht, beloven de shows in de Lotto Arena op zaterdag 9 en zondag 10 mei één groot feest te worden!

Dunk!festival 2026 - Three Belgian Bands
Maybe you know or maybe you don't know but Belgium has quite a lot of excellent bands in this lively scene. And so we just book them as much as we can. After ONRUST and Celestial Wolves, we're now adding another three Belgians to the lineup. And they all come with a story.

Pothamus already built a name in the scene and maybe doesn't need an introduction. We were lucky to catch them live in 2021 in our studio for the exceptional online edition where they seemed to have saved all of their intensity for that show. We were blown away. In the meantime we saw them on different stages and they always deliver. We saved a very nice spot for them on this years lineup.

Also Capitan shouldn't be completely unknown to you. They played the festival in 2024 where we called them very last minute (same day!!) to fill in for... Pothamus who unfortunately had to cancel their show that day. Capitan saved the day, without knowing they would play dunk!festival when they woke up that morning. So that makes them instant legends. This time we asked them a bit sooner though. Don't miss out on them. In the meantime they released their second album that was (partially) recorded, pressed and distributed by dunk!

Bloed is new in town but it didn't take long to have us convinced! We saw them live, invited them to our headquarters and we decided to release their first album together on dunk!records. We can't get enough of their unique sound and we want you all to know about these three siblings from Ostend, Belgium.

'Auster' is de debuut-single van VLIEGWERK, een gloednieuwe instrumentale band rond Steven Cassiers (Dans Dans, Bram Weijters' Crazy Men, Dez Mona,...) op drums, Wout Gooris (Sam Joris, Eva De Roovere, Fien Desmet,...) op synths, Indisch harmonium en keelzang en Tim Finoulst (Bert Joris, Tutu Puoane,...) op pedal steel.

VLIEGWERK werkt toe naar de release van een eerste album dat volledig live en in één take werd opgenomen. Zonder overdubs, zonder correcties – puur, direct en met de onmiskenbare energie van het moment. De composities schetsen een boeiend sonisch landschap dat zich uitstrekt van melancholie tot ritmische stuwing, van verstilde introspectie tot speelse lichtheid.

‘AUSTER’, de allereerste single van VLIEGWERK, is een ode aan de Amerikaanse schrijver Paul Auster. De titel verwijst niet enkel naar de auteur zelf, maar vooral naar het gevoel dat zijn werk oproept: melancholie, een zekere existentiële ongrijpbaarheid, het blijven hangen in het onderweg zijn zonder bestemming. De track wordt gedragen door repetitieve, stuwende drumpatronen en synthpartijen die doen denken aan een arpeggiator. Daarboven zweeft een droefgeestige melodie die subtiel wringt. De pedal steel van Tim Finoulst grijpt op het juiste moment in met een lyrische, geïmproviseerde solo die raakt in zijn puurheid. Het nummer lost zich niet op, maar blijft cirkelen in een geladen spanning.

In het hart van de groep ligt de pedal steel, die de composities doordrenkt met weidse en open landschappen. De gefocuste en gebalde energie van de drums en synths stuwen het geheel eindeloos verder. De sporadische keelzang geeft het geheel een haast hypnotiserende beleving.

Live creëert VLIEGWERK een meeslepende sfeer, waarbij de groep moeiteloos schakelt tussen introspectieve momenten en energieke passages.
