Sinds zijn eerste editie in 1974 heeft Paaspop een ware metamorfose ondergaan van een populair regionaal festival naar een driedaags internationaal gerenommeerd evenement dat tot de top van de Europese openluchtevenementen behoort en even ongrijpbaar als onweerstaanbaar is.
Dit jaar verkocht Paaspop met een recordaantal van meer dan 110.000 festivalgangers opnieuw volledig uit. Zij zagen gedurende drie dagen en nachten zo'n 300 acts op 17 podia & area's; leefden zich culinair uit bij de vele foodtrucks met eten uit alle windstreken; en vermaakten zich in het bruisende campingstadje Paradise City. Goldband: de populairste festivalact van de afgelopen jaren, winnaar van de Popprijs 2022, multi-platina verkopende artiest, maar bovenal de beste vrienden.
De karakteristieke Haagse popgroep bestaande uit Milo Driessen, Karel Gerlach en De Het Boaz laat zich niet makkelijk in een hokje plaatsen en veroverde sinds hun eerste releases in 2019 gestaag de harten van Nederlandse en Belgische fans. Met een uiteenlopend palet aan genres en een ijzersterke liveshow veroverden zij in zowel 2022 als 2023 alle grote podia, waaronder Lowlands, Rock Werchter, Pukkelpop, Pinkpop en Tomorrowland.
Als bekroning van het live succes verkochten zij drie maal de AFAS Live en twee maal de Lotto Arena binnen enkele minuten uit. Hiermee heeft Goldband laten zien dat je volledig op eigen kracht je dromen waar kan maken, of je nou stukadoor, zolderkamer producer of toneelschool drop-out bent.
3voor12 bekroonde hun Lowlands 2022 optreden tot de beste festival show van het jaar, waar het debuutalbum 'Betaalbare Romantiek' door tienduizenden uitzinnige fans werd meegezongen. Hetzelfde jaar namen ze de MTV award voor 'Best Dutch Act' én twee 3FM awards mee naar huis.
Goldband trapte 2023 af als winnaar van de Nederlandse Popprijs en sleepte later dat jaar drie 3FM awards en drie Edisons (dé oudste en belangrijkste Nederlandse muziekprijzen) binnen voor de categorieën 'Nieuwkomer', 'Beste Song' en 'Beste Video' voor hun track 'Stiekem ft. Maan'. Laatstgenoemde werd de best beluisterde track op Spotify van dat jaar en brak het record als grootste Nederlandstalige Top40 hit aller tijden.

Dit is een noodgeval! Waar blijft die f*cking ambulance om ons zo snel mogelijk richting het Sportpaleis te voeren? Want op vrijdag 6 december gaat Goldband het Sportpaleis in Antwerpen volledig met de grond gelijk maken tijdens hun grootste concert ooit!
Met hits als 'Noodgeval', 'Rommel' en 'Witte Was' is Goldband niet meer weg te denken van alle grote radiozenders. Ook hun nieuwste single 'You & Me', die ze vorige week donderdag op de wereld loslieten, belooft alweer een hit te worden die in vele auto's en huiskamers luidkeels meegezongen gaat worden.

Op vrijdag 8 november zal Goldband ook in Nederland de Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam helemaal met de grond gelijk maken tijdens een knallend optreden.
Maar deze zomer mag Pukkelop zich eerst opwarmen op zaterdag 17 augustus voor de 'generale repetitie' van het Haagse trio.

“All our dreamers lose to the light” - from “Angels Go Home”
When the pandemic began, and the world shut down, so did the process of creating for Iron & Wine’s Sam Beam. In its place was a domesticity that the singer hadn’t felt in a long time, and although it was filled with many rewards, making music was not one of them. Reflecting on that time, Beam notes:
“I feel blessed and grateful that I and most of my friends and family made it through the pandemic relatively unscathed compared to so many others, but it completely paralyzed the songwriter in me. While so many artists, fortunately, found inspiration in the chaos, I was the opposite and withered with the constant background noise of uncertainty and fear. The last thing I wanted to write about was COVID, and yet every moment I sat with my pen, it lingered around the edges and wouldn’t leave. I struggled to focus until I gave up, and this lasted for over two years.”
The journey back began with a recording session in Memphis to record a handful of Lori McKenna tracks for the EP Lori with friend and producer Matt Ross-Spang.
“Recording has always been my favorite, and that session was an attempt to reconnect with what I love most about making music. I could finally feel the blood coming back into the body and the creative muscles beginning to relax and move again.”
Soon a series of short tours were booked entitled “Back to Basics,” which, out of necessity, were solo acoustic shows in smaller venues. They had an unspoken weight to them for Beam and the audiences alike, and also an incredible sense of relief for finally sharing art together and being back to work! A larger tour with Andrew Bird followed in the summer of ’22, and Beam was inspired even more by the excitement of collaborating with Andrew and his band and the warmth of musical friends.
“By the time I got home, the paralysis had officially passed, and I was finishing lyrics and booking studio time for what would become Light Verse!”
As Beam began to assemble the musicians he wanted for his record, one common thread arose- they all lived in Los Angeles! Outside of his own pedigree, the decision to work with engineer and mixer Dave Way at his studio Waystation high up in Laurel Canyon was a logical step based on recommendations from two of the joining players on the record. An additional session would also take place at Silent Zoo Studio, where a 24-piece orchestra would lay claim to a handful of songs, helping prepare them for lift-off.
“I’ve met and played with so many talented musicians from Los Angeles over the years but never recorded there, and this felt like the perfect time to try. Tyler Chester plays all the keyboards, Sebastian Steinberg plays the bass, David Garza guitar and slide and stuff, Griffin Goldsmith, Beth Goodfellow, and Kyle Crane all play drums here and there, and Paul Cartwright plays many various sizes of violin and mandolin and wrote some wonderful string arrangements for the orchestra! Even Fiona Apple was kind and generous enough to lend us her voice (that miracle that sounds like both a sacrifice and a weapon at the same time) to a duet called “All In Good Time.”
Beam lyrically once again takes focus on a series of both fictional and personal insights, filled with desperate characters and wide-eyed optimists, offering promise and a dose of heartache, tears and laughter, life and love. Taking stock in the album’s title, he jokes, “Light verse is a form of poetry about playful themes that often uses nonsense and wordplay, and it’s my first official Iron & Wine comedy album!…. Just kidding….”
While true this may be Iron & Wine’s most playful record, Beam says the title mostly reflects the way the songs were born with joy after the heaviness and anxiety of the pandemic. Where recent records like Beast Epic or Weed Garden gave air to the disquiet of middle-aged frailty and brokenness, these songs trade that for the focus acceptance can bring. Moment by moment, they delight in being pointed or silly (or both) and attempt beauty over prettiness.

Light Verse arrives April 26th, and it’s Iron & Wine’s seventh full-length overall and fifth for Sub Pop Records. Fashioned as an album that should be taken as a whole, it sounds lovingly handmade and self-assured as a secret handshake. Track by track, its equal parts elegy, kaleidoscope, truth, and dare.

KOWARI, HUN NIEUWE SINGLE "CAIRO"
Twee jaar na de release van 'Trail' en een uitgebreide Europese tournee met vijftig optredens, is de Belgische band KOWARI vandaag terug met 'Cairo', de derde single van hun langverwachte album 'Momento'. Het album zal op 26 april worden uitgebracht en neemt luisteraars mee op een meeslepende reis.
Met Cairo neemt het duo luisteraars mee op een reis door de bruisende straten van Cairo. De track eert de karakteristieke melodische elementen van het duo, inclusief de klanken van de viool en de resonantie van de piano in een elektro-oriëntaalse opening. Het nummer bouwt op naar een groots crescendo, aangedreven door arpeggio's en verfraaid met etherische vocalen, die herinneren aan de majestueuze composities van de legendarische Ennio Morricone. In deze track laten de duo zich inspireren door RONE, Chemical Brothers, Justice en Morricone.

The band around Bert Dockx transforms into a quartet and announces a new album and tour.
Ottla, a band named after Franz Kafka's favourite sister, was initially formed by Bert Dockx (Dans Dans, Flying Horseman) for a one-off performance series in 2019. What began as a fleeting experiment swiftly evolved into a full-fledged 6-piece band, leading to the creation of an album and numerous performances. After a temporary hiatus, Ottla resurfaced to support a 2021 improvisation for a monologue by Josse De Pauw. Ottla shed its skin, found new inspiration, and is ready to embark on a new chapter in 2024.
Their second full-length, Vogel (Bird), emerges as a vibrant and diverse exploration of jazz, improv, electro, noise, prog, afro, blues, groove, punk, and krautrock. Ottla has transformed into a quartet, with Bert Dockx, Thomas Jillings, Gerben Brijs, and Louis Evrard engaging in a playful dialogue, showcasing contrasts in strength and color. Ottla's journey is captured in the album, with the spontaneity and dynamics of live performances preserved. The result is an exciting and transformative musical experience.
Ottla's upcoming album, "Vogel" (Bird), is the full awakening: the window flies open, the sun burns. The album showcases significant contrasts in strength and color between songs, often even within one song.

DEMAN ROGUE - Deman Rogue is een jonge, 4-koppige blues rock 'n roll band uit Alken. Ze brengen een nieuwe, unieke vorm van alternatieve blues. Geïnspireerd door de groovy sounds uit de jaren 70.
Eerlijke, diepgaande woorden, voortgebracht door een sterke, rakende stem. Compleet met pure, rock 'n roll energie.
Deman Rogue II is het langverwachte tweede full-album van deze opkomende band uit Alken. Op het nieuwe album vormt de blues nog steeds het fundament, maar de combinatie van uiteenlopende stijlen is precies wat hun geluid zo uniek maakt. Reikend van 70’s punk (Reverse! Reverse!), naar Psychedelica (12 BB, Jane Doe). Van stevige Bluesrock (Little Miss Heartbreak) tot een duistere, emotionele sfeer (Borderline, Strings). Dit album bevat het allemaal. Even voorstellen – Paleblue EP release
Daar waar 90’s Grunge en moderne Shoegaze elkaar ontmoeten, vind je de Utrechtse band Paleblue. Op 1 maart 2024 brachten zij in eigen beheer een mini-album uit dat veelvuldig wordt beluisterd op de streamingdiensten. De jonge band, bestaande uit eerstejaars HKU-studenten, is reeds geboekt op de VU (25 april, Amsterdam), het prestigieuze Bridgefestival (31 mei, locatie Stroomhuis, Eindhoven), ACU (7 juni, Utrecht) . Bijzonder geschikt voor wie van hartstochtelijk verbeten teksten, gevoelvolle zang, suizende gitaren en een energieke ritmesectie houdt.

Somehow, it's always a fantastic time so shortly after a festival. The impressions are fresh, you can still feel the energy and the anticipation, which bands might hit the stage next time, adds to the excitement. Therefore, we are thrilled to present to you the second wave of bands.
Continuing their triumphant journey, SOLAR FAKE are going to deliver a powerful and charming performance at E-tropolis 2025 again, while ROTERSAND and EMPATHY TEST will serve up a fine selection of clever electro-pop gems, as well.
Look forward to body-moving electro beats from ORANGE SECTOR, whose 2016 hit "Farben" recently garnered millions of streams after turning into a social media phenomenon, and enjoy the highly requested RUE OBERKAMPF, set to enrich the E-tropolis Festival with their unique sound for the first time next year.

De Dandy Warhols combineren psych-rock, shoegaze, powerpop en synthpop met de schaamteloze losbandigheid van hun popart-naamgenoot. Ze zijn net zo goed in bedwelmende mijmeringen als in satirische pop. Al vroeg in hun carrière hadden ze succes met nummers als "Not If You Were the Last Junkie on Earth" en "Bohemian Like You", die allebei de hipstercultuuraan de kaak stelden. Terwijl de band hun derde decennium inging, keerden de Dandys dit jaar terug met 'ROCKMACKER', een nieuw album vol rauwe punk- en metalgitaarriffs en prestigieuze samenwerkingen (Debbie Harry, Frank Black en Slash).
Sinds hun oprichting in Austin in 2004 lieten The Black Angels zich inspireren door psychedelische rocklegendes als Syd Barrett, Roky Erickson en Arthur Lee. 'Wilderness of Mirrors', hun nieuwste album, betekent een triomfantelijke comeback van de Texanen, die hun stijl hebben verfijnd met een scala aan intrigerende geluiden en composities. Politieke onrust, pandemieën en de aanhoudende verwoesting van het milieu vormen het perfecte materiaal voor hun scherpe commentaar op de maatschappij.

Het is de tweede single van het op 27 april te verschijnen album 'The Broken Heart of Mati Le Dee'.
Het album wordt voorgesteld met een release concert op donderdag 2 mei om 21u in het S.M.A.K. in Gent.

Een verhaal over liefde, verlies en inzicht. Een troostend manifest van rebelse schoonheid en hoop, 11 songs waarbij Mati Le Dee mede vanuit persoonlijke ervaringen universele thema’s beschrijft. Het is een verhaal over verdriet maar ook over de absurditeit van het zijn maar ook over veerkracht en de hoop en uiteraard liefde.
Alle songs werden geschreven en gearrangeerd door Mati Le Dee, het album werd geproducet door Frederik Segers en wordt uitgebracht door Pikebole Records op vinyl.

The Broken Heart of Mati Le Dee is het vijfde muziekalbum van de a-gender kunstenaar Elke Andreas Boon die onder diens muzikaal pseudoniem Mati Le Dee muziek maakt.
Eerder verschenen de muziekalbums: 'Songs for Johnny', 'We go round' en de ep 'On tourne en rond' met de band Mary&Me en 'Biometrical Love' en 'Heartbeat' met de band G A U S S. Beide projecten telkens in samenwerking met Pieter-Jan De Waele.
