Ça me Vexe schetst het dagelijkse leven van een koppel dat langzaam uit elkaar valt, waar frustraties, kleine ergernissen en te lang verzwegen verwijten de relatie steeds verder aantasten. Coup Dur stapelt die gevoelens op tot aan de bridge, het emotionele hoogtepunt van het nummer, waar de eindeloos herhaalde zin 'Ça me reste' zich letterlijk aan de luisteraar vastzet.

Live op tape, geen fratsen
Gospel According to… is de tweede plaat van Gorilla Tremors, en de band heeft duidelijk iets te bewijzen na hun debuut. Waar die eerste EP volledig in eigen beheer werd opgenomen in het repetitiekot, trok de band deze keer naar de Tooth Mountain Studio van Rafael Valles Hilario (Tuff Guac) om alles op tape vast te leggen. Bewust geen knip- en plakwerk achteraf: What you hear, is what you get. Die old school aanpak doet precies wat ze moet doen: de live sound en de energie van de band eerlijk weergeven, zonder een laagje polish dat de kantjes glad zou strijken.
Rauw rock ’n’ roll zwaait de plak
Gospel According to… draagt zijn missie niet licht: rauwe rock 'n' roll prediken in een wereld waar autotune, click-tracks en usb-sticks te plak zwaaien. De nummers zijn geen gewone songs, het zijn rock 'n' roll psalmen, één voor één opgevat om het publiek in vervoering te brengen. Er wordt gepredikt en gezongen over hopeloze liefde, over vechten voor een plaats op deze aardkloot, en over simpelweg jezelf durven zijn. Thema's die hier niet zwaarmoedig aanvoelen, maar als een vuistslag met een grijns erbij.
Openen doet het album met Fight Fight Fight. Daarmee maken Gorilla Tremors meteen een statement: opkomen voor jezelf en geen compromissen maken.
Lollypop met zijn suggestieve zanglijn swingt en rolt dat het een lieve lust is. Wie hierop kan blijven stilzitten, is vermoedelijk een levende mummie.
Cobrahead is een nummer waarin Stefanie van Garagefuzzters voor muzikaal vuurwerk zorgt in een vocaal duel met Guy, strak binnen de drie minuten. Ook op Let It Slip en Black Out maakt Stefanie het er met haar stem niet minder smerig op: minstens even vuil als Grease on speed.
Heel toepasselijk sluit Gospel According to… af met Raw Doggin', met als mantra: 'I don't care what the people say’. Een regel die de hele plaat eigenlijk samenvat.
Ook visueel klopt alles: Kingratartwork (bekend van de Chiff Chaffs) weet de ruwe old school mentaliteit van Gorilla Tremors perfect te vertalen in beeld, met zowel de albumcover als de beelden voor de verschillende singles. Van opnamemethode tot artwork is deze plaat consequent: eerlijk, rauw, en zonder excuses.

Met Plastic levert de Noord-Nederlandse band BAKBEEST haar eerste officiële single af. Het viertal brengt een eigenzinnige mix van rap, funk, rock, jazz en country waarin scherpe observaties, humor en maatschappijkritiek hand in hand gaan.

Unday records news - With Geike Arnaert, Aäron Koch finds the missing voice on 'Echoes'
Aäron Koch has never had much of a soft spot for duets. 'Echoes', it turns out, had other ideas.
The song has been following him around for years. An early demo never quite settled into place, and when Koch was working on his debut album 'For Once', he dismantled the original arrangement and rebuilt it as 'Longing'. It took returning to that first recording years later for another possibility to reveal itself. Perhaps the song hadn't needed to be rearranged at all. Perhaps it had simply been missing another voice.
Koch found it in Geike Arnaert. He had known Geike for some time and had long admired the particular tension in her singing: a voice that can sound exposed and fragile one moment, then quietly commanding the next. When he sent her the old demo, her answer came back almost immediately: "I'm in."
'Echoes' stays close to that original, shadowy atmosphere. It moves patiently, leaving plenty of air around both singers while a quiet unease simmers underneath. Rather than trading lines in the manner of a conventional duet, Koch and Geike circle around each other. Their voices meet, separate and blur at the edges, giving a song about longing and connection its elusive pull.

OTHELLO is the debut album by pianist and composer Orson Claeys. Bringing together influences from jazz, hip-hop, urban culture, and everyday life, the record offers the clearest portrait yet of an artist shaped as much by the worlds around him as by music itself.
The title refers to Claeys' full name, Orson Dwight Othello Claeys, and reflects the album's central concern: identity. Throughout its eleven compositions, personal experiences, cultural influences, and artistic inspirations converge into a body of work that seeks to understand how an artist is formed, both within and beyond music. Musically, it builds on jazz, strongly intertwined with hip-hop, contemporary culture, and ideas beyond traditional musical frameworks. For Orson, music is not a fixed genre, but an open and evolving form of expression. That philosophy is introduced from the very first moments through the voice of one of jazz's most respected musicians and educators, Dr. Marshall Hawkins.
Claeys first encountered a conversation between John Daversa and Dr. Marshall Hawkins on The John Daversa Podcast through a short clip on social media and was immediately struck by the way Hawkins spoke about music, love, and life. The spoken-word excerpt that opens "INTRO / L.O.V.E." is drawn from that conversation, whose reflections closely echoed the ideas that had shaped Orson's artistic vision and inspired him to reach out about using it on the record.
Before granting permission, Hawkins asked to meet Orson to learn more about the project and its artistic vision. The conversation, shaped by Hawkins' lifelong experience as both a performer alongside artists such as Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Tony Williams, Joe Henderson, Freddie Hubbard, and Pharoah Sanders, and as a dedicated educator and mentor, left a lasting impression. Convinced by the vision behind the project, Hawkins gave his blessing to use the recording, allowing his voice to introduce the listener as a reflection on connection, humanity, and the ideas that underpin the album as a whole.
This broad perspective continues in a series of carefully chosen collaborations. A track like "WHAT A NIGHT" first took shape during a studio session with indie-soul singer Sevens, whose harmonic ideas laid the foundation for the track. As the composition evolved, Claeys felt it called for a stronger hip-hop voice. Through a recommendation from Mixmonster Menno of STUFF., he was introduced to L.A. rapper IAMOMNI, whose contribution brought exactly the energy and perspective the track needed. The result unfolds like a late-night journey through Los Angeles, with IAMOMNI's contribution adding a sense of movement, character, and place.
Elsewhere, "SPIRAL", featuring Belgo-Brazilian vocalist Helena Casella, grew out of a long-standing mutual admiration. Conceived as a meeting point between R&B and jazz, the composition balances the groove and emotional depth of the former with the improvisational spirit and spontaneity of the latter. The collaboration developed naturally from the outset, with Casella instinctively understanding the atmosphere Claeys envisioned while enriching the music with her own warmth and nuance.
A long-held ambition materializes on "SHADOWBOXING", where Claeys is joined by drummer, producer, and one of the key figures in contemporary Belgian jazz, Lander Gyselinck. Gyselinck's work, particularly his collaboration with Zwangere Guy on Pourriture Noble, was instrumental in showing him how the language of hip-hop could coexist naturally with jazz, an idea that runs throughout the music. Drawing inspiration from boxing, the track is a musical equivalent of a fighter's walk towards the ring: focused, intense, and driven by the sense of anticipation that precedes stepping into the fight.
After this heightened intensity, the record gradually moves toward its closing statement. "OUTRO / HANIN", featuring oud player Akram Ben Romdhane, a longtime collaborator whose playing forms a natural bridge between his previous work and the broader musical landscape he's exploring these days. The title references the Tunisian Arabic word hanin, meaning "nostalgia", a fitting conclusion to a work deeply concerned with memory, identity, and personal history.
Beyond music itself, the album is informed by a wider cultural landscape. Urban culture, with its visual language, creative independence, and sense of community, forms an important backdrop. Sport also plays a significant role, particularly boxing and skateboarding, whose emphasis on discipline, focus, and resilience mirrors his own creative process. Rather than being treated as separate influences, these worlds coexist without hierarchy, reflecting an artistic vision that resists rigid boundaries and allows different disciplines, communities, and experiences to inform one another.

UNDERSCORES
Hailing from San Francisco, Filipino-American artist April Harper Grey started making music as underscores in middle school. For years, she released a steady stream of one-offs via SoundCloud, which endeared her to like minded artists and a burgeoning community of fans, but it wasn't until 2017, with the release of EP "skin purifying treatment", that the project stepped out of its solitary origins and began to capture the attention of a much larger audience. In 2021, underscores released the debut album, "fishmonger", written and recorded in that same childhood bedroom amidst the pandemic. She gained even more recognition with "boneyard aka fearmonger", a collection of seven tracks that manages to sound like both the climax of and the morning after the craziest night of your life. In 2023 "Wallsocket", became one of the critics' favourites, and this year's "U" dove deep into the exploration of hyper-pop and dance music, making it to the Top 5 of albums of 2026.
"When people listen to underscores, I want their initial reaction to be, 'This is ridiculous'. But the more they listen to it, they should hear the nuance in it, the heaviness in it, and I hope they connect with it on some kind of emotional level", says April. Het verhaal van MICO startte op Discord en Twitch, waar hij covers en eigen nummers livestreamde. Met een snelgroeiende en toegewijde fanbase brak de Canadese zanger in 2022 door met de virale single "cut my hair". Zijn unieke sound, een mix van indiepop en punk en geïnspireerd door acts als 5 Seconds of Summer en Marianas Trench, leverde hem al snel uitverkochte tours op in de Verenigde Staten en Europa. Na een reeks succesvolle EP's zoals 'the tears we fight' (2023) en 'Internet hometown hero' (2024) én een nominatie voor de Juno Award als Breakthrough Artist of the Year, viert MICO nu zijn eerste album. Met 'When the lights turn on' laat MICO een meer volwassen en rauwe kant van zichzelf horen. De plaat snijdt thema's aan zoals volwassen worden in het digitale tijdperk, relaties en mentale gezondheid.
