Dinosaur Jr. announce their new album, There Near, out August 28th via Jagjaguwar and release the lead single/video, ‘Several Got Away’. In conjunction, they announce a fall North American Tour. Of the ‘Several Got Away’ video, the director Guy says, “I wanted to do something a little tongue-in-cheek with a kind of ‘backyard movie’ feel that could fit in nicely with the existing canon of Dinosaur Jr. music videos. The first bit of inspiration came from a great Henry Darger painting of kids being terrorised by two giant floating hands of fire. Then I got thinking about the rapture and it came together from there. The guys were really game for it all and I was honoured that they let me chase them around a big field with my camera like a psycho. We were on a tight schedule with the turnaround so I had to learn a lot of VFX stuff over the course of weekend, but I like the way the effects all turned out.”
There Near marks the sixth studio album Dinosaur Jr. have recorded in the 20 years since their triumphal rebirth. There have been several live and/or closet cleaning collections to keep us punters sated for the five years since Sweep It Into Space, but there is nothing quite like having a full slab of new Dino tunes to fry your ears. And There Near has all knobs set to Extra Crispy.
Created in short, intense bursts over the course of a year at Amherst's Bisquiteen Studio, There Near was recorded almost entirely by Dino's core trio—king of the thunder tubs, Murph, human tornado Lou Barlow on bass/vocals and the inimitable J Mascis on guitar/vocals—with a bit of piano and organ work by local master musician, Ken Mauri. And the album roars from start to finish.
J's guitar tone throughout There Near is even more animalistic than usual, perhaps owing partly to the fact he's playing through a recently acquired 70's Mesa Boogie MK 1 amp. “I bought the same amp that Chris Dixon had when we made our first album,” J says. “Chris recorded us at his house with his amp. It has a real interesting sound I haven't gotten for a while. And it's something I was trying to get back to on this album. The Stones started using Mesa Boogies in the '70s after they heard Santana playing through them. Then The Clash copied The Stones, etc. As the years went on into the MK 2 and so on, the Boogie got more metal sounding. But the MK 1 has a souped-up Fender sound. You always hear how Rick Rubin always makes bands he's producing sit down and listen to their first album and say let's get back to that sound. So I just gave myself his advice."
Asked about the philosophical opacity of his lyrical approach, J says. “I'm not always sure what a song is 'about' when I'm writing it. I guess the meaning will present itself at some point. I'll use whatever words work. And a lot of it will be influenced by whatever esoteric mumbo jumbo I'm reading at the time. I try not to think too hard about any of it. I think it's a drag that Spotify shows all the lyrics to a song. What's the fun of that?."
There Near continues Dinosaur Jr.'s string of classic albums. The new songs are sure to sound amazing with their monstrous riffs blaring from live stages amidst their historical brethren.
Can't wait to catch them live, but in the meantime, There Near will be a constant companion. The nearer the better.

Following on from 2023’s Clear Pond Road , Kristin Hersh returns with new solo set Sugar On Blackstone out 18th September on Fire
Records along with an extensive tour this Autumn across the UK , Europe and Australia .
A darker yet delicately rendered work from Kristin Hersh, Sugar On Blackstone explores life and death, enrichment and poverty, and the small but defining moments of childhood that continue to echo through adult life. Deeply personal and emotionally expansive, the album
reflects on the lasting bonds between musicians, family and fri ends, and the way certain sounds, places and memories can suddenly bring someone vividly back into focus.
Out now new single , and second track from this release, ‘Dark Eyed Junco’ instantly draws you into her world with lucid, winding melodies and intricate arrangements. It’s an introspective track on Kristin and her brother’s childhood. Kristin adds, “ He was a ‘Dark Eyed Junco’ and I was a light - eyed weirdo. We’d play basketball until after dark then, when we couldn’t even see the hoop anymore, so that we didn’t have to go home. After our stepfather moved in, it wasn’t a home anymore. ”
Recorded at Stable Sound Studios earlier this year, Hersh is joined by longtime collaborators Rob Ahlers (50FOOTWAVE ) on drums and cellist Pete Harvey (Throwing Muses). The result is a stark yet warm collection of songs that balances fragility with force, intimacy with tension.
“Here in Providence, we say, “the rich folks live on Power Street, but most of us live off Hope.” Last year, I found myself living on Hope Street for the third time, which is the charm one, right? I still travelled the country and the world, as I do - the ‘101 Run’ that is my work and my life - racing down highways and swimming with stingrays during the California wildfires at a ‘Silver Beach, ’ but always coming back to the ‘72 Stingrays’ racing past the park across the street from my city sun - drenched the n buried - in- snow Providence apartment.
The park where I watched the 70’s full - on come back through my window as I wrote these songs.
In Providence, when Hope’s harmless ‘Snow White Lies’ fall away and we can’t believe in anything anymore, we pace Blackstone across the park; a long empty strip of path, like a ship of lost souls. Last summer, a friend who was like a brother to me was shot and killed nearby. His ‘Ticking’ ticker stopped, no more time to measure with heartbeats, after only 38 years; his restless spirit riddled with holes like his poor body. I don’t like to see spirits this way, nobody does; it was all so dark. One morning, I helped dress his ch ildren for th eir dad’s funeral. So metimes Hope doesn’t help. I paced and paced Blackstone with the other lost souls, with the ghost of my dear gone brother.
‘Moths’ don’t necessarily burn when they seek light, though. And we’re still alive, and Dom seeing through his children’s eyes. Is th at Hope? I don’t know. All I know is that he was soon bathed in orange and glowing as he always had. 'Dom in Orange’ came singing through
the park and into the window that day as the sun set in a brilliant deep red - orange. And then all us ladies in our ‘Pink Nightgowns’ regrouping under porchlights up and down Hope; half - lit, light and shadow balancing and fighting, eac h of us our own ‘Sundial’. Music playing in the trees, where it always has.
When I moved back to our hometown, my brother asked me to figure out why we got kicked out of it, why we had no home. And yea h, I don’t know, we showed up here so loving. But vulnerability is strength. When souls choose to be human, they choose human frai lty. If every ‘Samson’ knew he signed up for this, we’d love each other more easily and live this bumpy ride hard. Which, I imagine, both incorporating on the material plane and music are for. We can’t help loving each other, as much as it hurts. “We bring so much sweetness to this bare path,” I thought on Blackstone one morning after a long night; all of us souls pacing with our love and pain. Choosing both - sharing sugar when we can, sharing Hope when we can’t.” - Kristin Hersh
A poignant and expansive record that radiates strength in vulnerability, ‘Sugar On Blackstone’ is another crucial record in H ersh’s ever -growing canon of work. Een aaneenschakeling van problemen, dat is het leven van Wannes Cappelle.
En voor u zich verlustigt in leedvermaak: het uwe is geen haar beter.
Daar raakt een mens al eens door ontmoedigd. En dat is verstaanbaar.
Maar als problemen hebben volstrekt normaal is, wat is dan eigenlijk het probleem?
Zo. Dit raadsel heeft Wannes alvast ontrafeld.
Meer van dat - en nog heikelere kwesties - lost hij hoogstpersoonlijk voor u op.
Al sprekend en al zingend. Met de glimlach. Of met een zucht.
Maar één ding moet je wel verstaan: na het zien van deze voorstelling zal uw leven nooit meer hetzelfde zijn.*
*Wie kan aantonen dat zijn leven nadien precies hetzelfde is als voorheen, krijgt zijn geld terug.
Over de artiest:
Wannes Cappelle toont zich als frontman van Het Zesde Metaal al meer dan twintig jaar als een rake observator. Zijn eerste stappen zette hij echter in comedy: in 2002 won hij samen met Dries Helsen zowel de pers- als de publieksprijs op Humorologie. Later vond zijn komisch talent een uitlaatklep in het schrijven van scenario’s voor televisiereeksen als Bevergem en Grond.
Met 'Verstaanbaar' brengt hij zijn eerste onemanshow.

Met Sound Track gaan spelers uit de Vlaamse en Brusselse muzieksector samen op zoek naar de sound van hun regio.
Sound Track is een laagdrempelige manier om het talent uit de regio’s naar boven te stuwen. Een nieuwe generatie kan zich aanmelden via VI.BE platform.

BRDCAST april
BRDCST is terug van weggeweest. AB’s meest avontuurlijke en genrefluïde festival geeft in april een podium aan het spannendste wat avant-garde pop, futuristische hiphop, Afrikaanse black metal, electronica, jazz en improvisatie te bieden heeft.
Met om en bij de 50 namen oogt het programma van BRDCST 2026 overweldigend. Van vrijdag 3 tot en met maandag 6 April verwelkomt BRDCST jullie in AB, cinema Palace en de kunstgallerij VanhaerentsArtCollection. Gastcuratoren Keeley Forsyth, Ichiko Aoba en Stephen O’Malley zetten er elk op geheel eigen wijze een avond naar hun hand. De programmatorische tentakels reiken daarbij van Bolivië tot Zuid-Korea en kennen geen grens qua genre. Op BRDCST gaan hiphop, freejazz, ambient en artpop hand in hand. Alle acts hebben daarbij één gemene deler: een unieke sound, die algoritmes doet spaak lopen

AB sluit de zomervakantie traditiegetrouw af met haar twee legendarische en gratis festivals. Het strijkt opnieuw neer in Gare Maritime op de site Tour & Taxis. MayWay records news - Few Bits - ‘Bubble Trouble’
Few Bits trapt de zomer af met de gloednieuwe - en ja, we gaan 't gewoon schrijven, ok? - STEENGOEIE single ‘Bubble Trouble’.
Sprankelende gitaren, een knapperig refrein en natuurlijk die heerlijke, fluwelige stem van frontvrouw Karolien Van Ransbeeck: zomernostalgie in de grand Few Bits-traditie.
Karolien: “Deze song gaat over de bubbel waarin je ongemerkt terecht kunt komen. Pas wanneer je beseft dat je erin zit, kun je hem doorprikken. Voor mij gaat ‘Bubble Trouble’ precies over dat moment.”
Na een succesvolle eerste carrière – met de albums Few Bits (2013) en Big Sparks (2016), waarbij de band onder meer tweemaal met The War On Drugs door Europa trok – keerde Few Bits eind vorig jaar terug met ‘Brick Houses’, dat op talloze lovende recensies kon rekenen in binnen- en buitenland. (KEXP: “A Sensational Return.”). ‘Bubble Trouble’ sluit naadloos aan bij de wereld van ‘Brick Houses’ en had moeiteloos een van de blikvangers van dat album kunnen zijn.
Karolien en haar band kijken intussen alweer vooruit: nieuwe plannen – en muziek – krijgen vorm. Ook de eerste nieuwe optredens komen eraan, zo speelt Few Bits op ‘Zero For Three’ in Maastricht in september. Nieuwe data volgen.

Ha Concerts, Gent – Een vooruitblik op de concerten
Nieuwe namen
Het nieuwe seizoen staat voor de deur met een reeks gerenommeerde artiesten op het programma, waaronder Sara Correia, Eliades Ochoa (Buena Vista Social Club), Vijay Iyer, Marc Ribot, Fred Wesley en Heather Nova.
Naast het avondaanbod is er dit jaar opnieuw veel ruimte voor het familieprogramma. Via de Tiny Tunes reeks blijft Ha Concerts inzetten op kwalitatieve livemuziek voor een jong publiek.
Dit najaar staan onder meer Ão,
Zap Mama & K.ZIA en Lander Gyselinck op het programma om de jongste generatie luistereraars te inspireren.
Meet Haroun Iqbal
Dit seizoen geeft Helena Casella de fakkel over aan onze nieuwe huisartiest Haroun Iqbal.
Om hem te introduceren gaat onze programmator Jaïr met hem in gesprek via een unieke briefwisseling. Daarin bevragen zij elkaar over hun muzikale praktijk, het creatieve proces en de wereld daarrond.

Zo 27 sept - WOEST 10
We trappen het seizoen af met muziektheater WOEST, vol punk en absurde humor. In deze energieke voorstelling zoeken de spelers naar dat wat zich niet laat temmen. In copresentatie met Kopergietery.
Do 1 okt - Nothing Bigger Than Humanity
Deze interactieve voorstelling nodigt je uit om te voelen wat het betekent om een mens te zijn in de wereld van vandaag. Op de grens tussen muziek en journalisme. In copresentatie met NTGent.
Vr 2 okt – Iqnovara
Nieuwe huisartiest Haroun Iqbal presenteert met zijn kwartet Iqnovara een tweede album waarin hij jazz verweeft met Noord-Indiase klassieke muziek. Vooraf geven ze hiervan al een proevertje tijdens een Tiny Tunes voor kinderen.
Zo 4 okt - Uma Chine Trio
De dames van Uma Chine sluiten de week af tijdens een ochtendconcert tijdens onze Foyer Matinee.
Op woensdag 7 oktober opent Ha Concerts samen met partner Boekhandel Paard van Troje het nieuwe seizoen van Re:Context! met een uniek eerbetoon aan Leonard Cohen.
In samenwerking met de UGent biedt deze avond vol talks, een docufilm én een live tribute door Lara Chedraoui (Intergalactic Lovers) een diepgaande blik op de iconische artiest.

WE ARE OPEN
We organiseren naar jaarlijkse gewoonte ons Belgisch showcasefestival We Are Open. Gedurende twee avonden programmeren we alleen maar Belgische acts die je op vier verschillende podia aan het werk kan zien. In totaal zullen meer dan 40 acts zich aan het grote publiek komen voorstellen.

Benenwerk
In augustus wordt de Brugse binnenstad opnieuw omgetoverd tot één grote dansvloer tijdens de editie van Benenwerk 'Ballroom Brugeoise'. Op verschillende podia kan het publiek een hele avond proeven van een uitgebreid aanbod aan dansstijlen en dat volledig gratis. Het evenement is door de jaren heen dan ook uitgegroeid tot een vaste waarde.
