Nieuwe concertzaal Kursaal Oostende opent deuren in januari 2027 en lanceert nu al vernieuwde website.De werken aan de concertzaal van Kursaal Oostende verlopen volgens plan en timing. De heropening van de vernieuwde concertzaal is voorzien in januari 2027. In aanloop daarnaartoe lanceert Kursaal Oostende vandaag een volledig nieuwe branding en nieuwe website en geeft meteen enkele kleppers prijs die in de nieuwe concertzaal te zien zullen zijn in 2027. Die zullen de komende weken allemaal te ontdekken vallen op de nieuwe website.
De concertzaal van Kursaal Oostende wordt momenteel grondig vernieuwd en klaar-gestoomd voor een nieuw hoofdstuk. De werken verlopen volgens planning en worden afgerond in oktober 2026. Daarna volgt een intensieve test- en inregelperiode, met als hoogtepunt de heropening in januari 2027.
Met de renovatie komt ook een duidelijke nieuwe visie. Onder de slogan “The power of live” zet Kursaal Oostende opnieuw volop in op de essentie van live beleving. Samen een moment delen, emoties voelen en volledig opgaan in het hier en nu. Die visie vertaalt zich in een vernieuwd publieksconcept, een flexibele zaalopstelling én een frisse nieuwe branding.
Intussen is ook de nieuwe website live. Daar ontdek je de eerste artiesten en producties die in 2027 in de vernieuwde concertzaal te zien zullen zijn. De komende maanden wordt het programma stap voor stap verder aangevuld, met regelmatig nieuwe aankondigingen.

Even voorstellen - Toa Toa - Drift Off

(EP, 17 april 2026)

Met Drift Off brengt de Gentse band Toa Toa hun eerste EP uit: drie songs die bewegen tussen dromerige introspectie en onvoorspelbare energie.
Toa Toa is een vijfkoppige psychedelische rockband met invloeden uit indie, jazz, surf en desert blues. Hun muziek blendt genres en sferen, met galmende gitaren, bezwerende vocals, blazers en eigenzinnige ritmes als rode draad. Soms zacht en meeslepend, dan weer ritmisch en explosief - met een sterke focus op melodie, gelaagdheid en contrast.

De EP bevat drie tracks: Western, Drag Me Home en Interesting Idea For a Song. Elk nummer heeft een eigen karakter, maar toch vormen ze een samenhangend geheel. De songs gaan over verbondenheid, verwondering, houvast verliezen en jezelf heruitvinden. De release wordt voorafgegaan door twee singles: Western verschijnt op 3 april, gevolgd door Interesting Idea For a Song op 10 april. Op 17 april wordt de volledige EP uitgebracht, met daarnaast ook het nog niet eerder verschenen Drag Me Home.

Drift Off werd opgenomen, geproducet en gemixt door Peter Desmedt (Studio Ledeberg). Voor Western werkte de band samen met Jon Birdsong (Black Flower, Beck, Calexico, …), die instond voor de blazerarrangementen. De mastering gebeurde door Lieven Van Pée (Echoes of Zoo, De Beren Gieren, …).

Het artwork - een abstracte weerspiegeling van de muziek - werd ontworpen door Anneleen Smet, die naast gitariste en zangeres van de band ook grafisch vormgever en beeldend kunstenaar is.

Live staat Toa Toa voor speelplezier, sterke songs en een set vol dynamiek: van intiem tot explosief. De tweestemmige zang loopt als een constante door hun songs. Saxofoon speelt op de EP een bescheiden rol in Interesting Idea For a Song, maar is live en in het bredere repertoire een bepalend element in hun sound. De leadgitaar verbindt alles met een expressieve speelstijl die laveert tussen melodische lijnen, laid-back grooves en uitgesproken solo’s.

De band speelde eerder dit voorjaar in de AB Club in Brussel als voorprogramma van Yīn Yīn en bouwt gestaag verder aan een live parcours.

Hell On Air Festival 2026 announces line-up 30 april – 3 may 2026  - Een update
HELL ON AIR THRASH ANNOUNCEMENT
In true old-school style, chaos strikes whenever it pleases. Unfortunately, ASSASSIN cannot play at Hell On Air this year, but the thrash gods never leave a void unfilled. From the German heartland of steel and smoke, a new force is rising. A band forged in '86, honed by decades of riffs, sweat, and pure aggression. A band that carries the old flame without compromise. ACCUSER is the name, and expect a massive thrash assault.

The festival takes place from May 1 to May 3, 2026, at OC Molenhuis in Molenstede (Diest) and promises to be one of the most intense metal events of the year. The openingsevening will happen on April 30, 2026.

Hell On Air brings a mix of international and national metal acts, including Liv Sin, Temtris, KrashKarma, and other explosive names that will fill the weekend with heavy riffs and pure energy. The festival is known for its powerful atmosphere, strong programming, and close ties to the metal community.

KrashKarma, the unique two-headed metal monster from Los Angeles, is known for their brutal energy, dual vocal power, and live shows that feel like a controlled explosion. Their arrival gives Hell On Air an extra international punch.

Belgian death metal legend Exoto, who died a few years ago, was persuaded to play one last show at Hell On Air. Not to be missed, just like the other 29 bands on the bill.

With the final of the Alcatraz Bash on Friday and a selection of Belgian bands on the bill, Hell On Air also gives homegrown talent a chance to perform.

“Cult of Celebrity”

Brighton’s own Lambrini Girls, the explosive duo of Phoebe Lunny (vocals/guitar) and Selin Macieira (bass), share their new single “Cult of Celebrity.” From its opening guitar lick, the duo’s new song is a relentless, thrashing indictment of the dark underbelly and backdoor dealings of the world’s global elites that has been exposed in recent years. Speaking about their new single, the Lambrini Girls had this to say:
“The age old tale, of selling your soul to the devil has been fabled accounts of high society for years. However due to recent events come to light- it turns out that the elite are very much actually, the devil incarnate, baby eating, pedos. What a fucking surprise! They had no souls to sell in the first place.”

The single is also accompanied by a music video directed by London-based filmmaker and director Harv Frost (The Last Dinner Party, Laufey).

Renowned as one of the best live bands to come out of the UK in recent memory, Lambrini Girls will be taking their spectacular live show on the road throughout the US and Europe this year. Beginning with a series of headline North American live dates including a show at Brooklyn’s Warsaw, the band will play festivals across the Northern Hemisphere this Summer including Bonnaroo, a Warped Tour stop in DC, Barcelona’s Primavera Sound, Gothenburg’s Way Out West and more.

Lambrini Girls breached the door to global rock consciousness with the raw charisma, barbed humor and combustible shredding of their debut album Who Let The Dogs Out in 2025. Released as an opening musical statement for the year in January last year, the album permeated throughout the rock world, with the band gracing the covers of NOTION, Kerrang!, Paste, and New Noise, with support from the likes of Variety and Pitchfork, who noted the album “rails against misogyny, homophobia… with righteous fury.” They’ve heaped praise and admiration from the likes of Bikini Kill’s Kathleen Hanna, Iggy Pop and Sleater Kinney, and shared stages with IDLES, Amyl & The Sniffers & more.

Lawijtstrijd - Lawijtstrijd - Muziekconcours Waasland
LAWIJSTRIJD, het legendarische muziekconcours van het Waasland is terug in een samenwerkingsverband van De Casino Concertzaal, Lokerse Feesten, Crammerock en jeugdhuizen Den Eglantier (De Nest), De Cramme en Okapi. De wedstrijd wordt ondersteund door Cultuurtuin Waas (Interwaas) en de stads- en gemeentebesturen van Lokeren, Sint- Niklaas en Stekene. (zie info site )
AFTRAP: Drie spots worden vrijgehouden voor jonge talenten uit de buurt die hun kans willen wagen om op één van onze podia te spelen die dag. Zij ontvangen naast podiumervaring en eeuwige roem ook catering en drankbonnen voor een dolle avond. Concreet zijn we op zoek naar allround dj’s, maar ook dj’s en live acts uit de hardere en experimentele elektronische genres zijn welkom met hun inzendingen.
De Tijdloze: Tijd voor 90: De Tijdloze en De Casino slaan jaarlijks de handen in elkaar om het muziekrepertoire van de gouden jaren negentig te vieren. Ontstaan als eindejaarslijst op Studio Brussel en na 35 jaar uitgegroeid tot een muzikaal begrip, vervelde De Tijdloze (100) in 2018 tot een onafhankelijk online radiokanaal (VRT MAX / DAB+) waar onder meer Stijn Van De Voorde (For Those About To Rock) en Roos Van Acker (Jouw Tijdloze Ochtenradio) de pop- en rockgeschiedenis alle eer aandoen. Liefhebbers van nostalgische hits kunnen sindsdien afstemmen op deze volwassen geworden digitale stream om er vierentwintig uur per dag, zeven dagen per week de beste klassiekers te beluisteren.
GREAT GIGS IN THE PARK Tien extraordinaire concertavonden De Casino Concertzaal en het stadsbestuur Sint-Niklaas presenteren een derde editie van Great Gigs in the Park. Deze reeks openluchtconcerten, die plaatsvinden in de feeërieke setting van het historische Casino Park (DC terras), wordt dit jaar gespreid over drie weken (van woensdag 14 juni tot donderdag 6 juli) en bundelt in die periode tien extraordinaire openluchtshows op de Casino[1]kiosk. Gezelligheid is het codewoord tijdens Great Gigs in the Park, want voor elk concertavonden worden slechts 600 tickets aangeboden. Programma De line-up van Great Gigs in the Park biedt een staalkaart van waar de Casino voor staat, zijnde een veelheid aan uiteenlopende muziekgenres: van hardrock en post-metal over elektrofunk en groove tot roots en droompop. In the technical sense, every previous album by the radiant and heavy French trio SLIFT has been a fantasia—a composite of genres and forms that allowed the band to improvise, to jam on themes until they seemed to spiral together into space. Their acclaimed third album, 2024’s Ilion, was a sci-fi story built with 10- to 13-minute exploratory escapades, often starting with doom metal or stoner rock before spinning freely into glorious instrumental oblivion. But, in a bit of intentional irony, SLIFT’s fourth album is actually called Fantasia. It’s their leanest and most direct record to date; taken together, its eight songs clock in at less than 50 minutes. It is also their most riveting album yet, a pointed saga about overcoming international upheaval delivered by a band bearing down, not wasting a single second in the process.
They wanted to write and render songs that recognized the turmoil of these days and to sing of a more hopeful vision, of a time when a reckoning arrives. SLIFT didn’t want to lose the message by playing too much. To wit, the longest song on Fantasia is the opening title track, a nine-minute preamble in which Jean Fossat screams of his desires for the world: rising above our pain, burying our dread, and finding, individually and collectively, “a fire for your soul.” The songs that follow aren’t lacking the complexity or intensity that have made SLIFT a rising, radical star in heavy music; it’s simply that they’ve found new ways to weave the complexities of their past inside every piece, like a tapestry that reveals a new layer every time you look. In doing so, they offer an affirming and urgent message: Together, we can still change the times in which we live.
Though only Jean and bassist Rémi Fossat are related, SLIFT is essentially a band of brothers. They’ve been friends with drummer Canek Flores since high school, and 2026 marks a decade together in this trio. They rehearse with religious regularity in a basement in the countryside near Toulouse, inside the jam room where they’ve long indulged their propensity for longform wonder. But they built the songs of Fantasia differently. Jean started many of the songs by himself, then quickly brought them to basement rehearsals with a clear and concise idea of how he imagined them taking shape. At first, SLIFT struggled to keep the songs tight, old habits making them wonder if this song or that one shouldn’t break the double-digit threshold. By the time they crossed France’s northern border into Belgium to record in the enormous live room at Daft Studios, though, the songs were lean, agile, and punchy. They made most of them in a single take.

As Jean Fossat wrote the core of Fantasia, he thought a lot about Jorge Luis Borges, the Argentinian author whose fiction deftly wove elements of magic and surreality into places and plots that almost felt real. He wanted to accomplish the same thing, to add supernatural touches to his contemplations of politics so that the listener might see reality differently, might question what they were missing about this plane. SLIFT even borrowed the song title “Orbis Tertius” from a 1940 Borges short story that uses the idea of subjective idealism—that is, believing the world only exists as far as our minds go—to ask questions of memory, history, possibility, and, ultimately, control. Fantasia, then, is an imagined town plagued by a sense of unknowing and xenophobia, of trying to eliminate anything that disrupts the accepted order.

The town first comes into focus on “Corrupted Sky,” where lurid keyboards and a relentless rhythm section illustrate a city of power-hungry wastrels. Jean’s guitar solo feels like an exhilarating chase sequence in a video game, as he tries to dodge doom while arriving in Fantasia. They treat the newcomer like poison incarnate during the prog gem “The Village,” while he predicts their downfall during “A Storm of Wings.” In a mighty, fists-up anthem that suggests Clutch getting wild, SLIFT alludes to John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, and Soviet writer Mikhail Bulgakov to portend the arrival of some great liberating force, some redemptive truth.

That slowly starts to emerge during the record’s back half, as memory returns to the masses, as people start to remember that they are more than the oppressive uniformity of their society. “Waiting Man”—a psychedelic ballad that suggests Pink Floyd wandering into the Master of Reality sessions—is the breaking point. The narrator realizes that the world he’s committed to is a lie. “I waited for love, waited my time,” Jean Fossat sings, his voice more vulnerable than it’s ever been. “Waited the seasons of my life.” He knows he must find his own way out of this mess and into something better, so long as it’s not too late.

It is dreadfully easy these days to feel powerless. We have instant access to a world of news, and so much of it is so very heavy. SLIFT reckons directly with the modern onslaught of cruelty and absurdity on Fantasia, whether that’s not caring about our home planet or one another. But these eight songs are about trusting in some hidden power for fighting back, for believing in a world where something we cannot yet articulate or define offers not just a way to disrupt the status quo but perhaps to destroy it completely. SLIFT is loud, heavy, and aggressive inside these anthems. They’re preparing for a battle they think we can still win.
