Ethno Flanders – Laarne, 2 – 11 augustus 2026

Internationaal muziekproject Ethno Flanders brengt jongeren uit vijf continenten samen in Laarne

Van 2 tot 11 augustus verwelkomt Ethno Flanders vijftig jonge muzikanten uit zestien landen en vijf continenten voor een tiendaags kamp in Laarne. Tijdens het internationale muziekproject delen de deelnemers traditionele muziek uit hun eigen cultuur en leren ze die aan elkaar, zonder gebruik van partituren. Het kamp wordt afgesloten met een reeks concerten in Gent, Dranouter en Laarne.

Muzikale uitwisseling zonder partituren
Voor het tweede jaar op rij vormt Laarne het decor voor Ethno Flanders, een internationaal initiatief waarbij jonge muzikanten centraal staan in het leerproces. De deelnemers leren elkaar muziek aan en nemen afwisselend de rol van leerling en lesgever op zich. Samen stellen ze het repertoire samen, ondersteund door vier artistieke mentoren: Klaas Berghs (België), Hanna-Lia Kiipus (Estland), Cris Àneta (Chili) en Elke De Meester (België).

Folk uit alle windstreken
Dit jaar verwelkomt Ethno Flanders deelnemers uit België, Brazilië, Chili, Congo, Denemarken, Duitsland, Estland, Frankrijk, India, Italië, Marokko, Mozambique, Nederland, Spanje, het Verenigd Koninkrijk, de Verenigde Staten en Zweden. De muzikanten brengen elk hun eigen tradities en verhalen mee, waardoor een unieke mix ontstaat van melodieën, ritmes en stijlen uit alle hoeken van de wereld.

Muziek als brug tussen culturen
Ethno Flanders wil meer zijn dan een muziekkamp alleen. Door tien dagen lang samen te wonen, muziek te maken en ervaringen te delen, leren de deelnemers elkaars leefwereld van dichtbij kennen. Muziek fungeert daarbij als een universele taal die nieuwsgierigheid, wederzijds respect en nieuwe vriendschappen stimuleert. Zo ontstaat een internationaal netwerk van jonge muzikanten dat ver buiten de landsgrenzen reikt.

Feestelijke concerten, een viering van culturen
Na tien dagen intens samen musiceren trekken de deelnemers op mini-tournee. Op zaterdag 8 augustus speelt Ethno Flanders in het Arca Theater in Gent, gevolgd door een optreden op Festival Dranouter op zondag 9 augustus. Op maandag 10 augustus sluiten de muzikanten het project af met een gratis concert in de kerk van Laarne, mogelijk gemaakt dankzij de samenwerking met de gemeente.

Fat Dog are cooking with gas. Today, they release "Shit Love", the third storming single from their forthcoming second album Cancel Me (I'm Tired) – due October 2nd via Domino.

"Shit Love" is all stabbing synths, manic vocals and a beat that sounds like a rollercoaster trying to shake itself off the tracks. It is about "two fucking insane people who argue constantly and they are world-enders every time" says frontman Joe Love.

With Cancel Me (I'm Tired), Fat Dog have created an exhilarating, swaggering, panoramic, inventive, re-inventive, re-re-inventive electro-punk-art-pop-rock'n'roll-space-country triumph that deserves all the adjectives. Over ten mind-bending and melodic tracks, it blends electro-pop anthems, cascading rave bangers, bombastic strings, cowboy-tinged pitstops and swirling psychedelia.

Fat Dog's request to be cancelled isn't going well – Radio 1, 6 Music, Absolute Radio, Radio X, Virgin Radio and Kerrang Radio have all playlisted them and the band have added new live dates including Brighton's Mutations Festival and further instores.

After releasing their debut album WOOF. in 2024 and becoming one of the UK's most exciting breakthrough bands in the process, South London seven-piece Fat Dog have a good reason to be tired. They've spent the period since WOOF.'s release spreading their raucous, infectious and irresistible bark around the world. The reason that they want you to cancel them is that they've been around the world and they're tired.

But if Fat Dog are tired with the world, the world is not tired of them. In fact, the world can't get enough of them. Wherever they went on the tour to support WOOF., new diehards emerged out of the carnage. "Show of the weekend," raved The Times after they played four shows in 27 hours at Glastonbury last year. "Unserious, unhinged and sensational," marvelled NME. Their message spread far and wide.

When it was time to think about album 2, the band's ringleader threw himself into recording sessions a day after landing home from a chaotic US tour in which each member of the band took turns in unravelling. "At some point on that tour, everyone had a small breakdown of some sort," says Chris, who remembers losing his mind in LA, bashing his head against a wall whilst wearing an American Football helmet.

It wasn't all nervous meltdowns. Romance was also in the air and, midway through the trek, Fat Dog's frontman got married in Vegas after proposing to his girlfriend in San Francisco. "We played a gig to two people in Vegas," Joe recalls, "and then the next day I got married."

And so, it was with depressed Elvis ringing in his ears that Joe got home and began work on the second Fat Dog album. On their debut, Love had left the lyrics until last, letting the heady momentum of the music lead the way, but this time he felt he had much more to say. Into its lyrical orbit, the record pulls mentions of addiction, family ties, love, AI, ancestry, extra-terrestrials, Chris Tarrant, S&M, B&M, H&M and M&Ms. Cancel Me (I'm Tired) possesses all the rabid frenzy and electrifying excitement of their debut but now delivered on a grand and glorious scale. Big, big things are ahead. Fat Dog are only just getting going.

Amerikaanse singer-songwriter Bonnie Kemplay brengt op 31 juli haar EP Someone, somewhere uit. Onder een stralende zon zijn de Lokerse Feesten gisteravond van start gegaan. Popicoon Diana Ross bracht een onvergetelijk openingsconcert en zette meteen de toon voor tien dagen feest.

Diana Ross swingt door heel haar repertoire
Diana Ross geldt als een van de meest invloedrijke artiesten uit de popgeschiedenis. Ze brak in de jaren zestig internationaal door als frontvrouw van The Supremes, de succesvolste meidengroep van het legendarische Motown-label, en bouwde nadien een even indrukwekkende solocarrière uit met wereldhits als "Ain't No Mountain High Enough", "I'm Coming Out" en "Upside Down". Met haar tijdloze stem en repertoire groeide ze uit tot een ware popicoon.

Als gedroomde openingsact voor de Lokerse Feesten liet Diana Ross er geen twijfel over bestaan: op 82-jarige leeftijd swingde ze moeiteloos door haar volledige repertoire en zette ze een waanzinnig concert neer.

"Diana Ross was de gedroomde headliner om onze eerste avond mee af te trappen. Dat ze op 82-jarige leeftijd nog zo'n energiek en meeslepend concert kan neerzetten, tekent haar status als absolute popicoon", aldus Steven Latré, woordvoerder van Lokerse Feesten.

Uitverkocht weekend
De komende dagen worden alvast druk op de Grote Kaai: het volledige weekend is uitverkocht. Vanavond staan onder meer Pommelien Thijs, Holly Humberstone en Roxy Dekker op de affiche. Morgen, zondag, pakken de Lokerse Feesten uit met een New Wave-dag, met onder meer Gary Numan, Soft Cell en The Human League.

"Een divers programma, zoals men dat intussen van ons gewend is. En het wordt duidelijk gesmaakt, want beide dagen zijn helemaal uitverkocht", zegt Latre. Ook volgende zaterdag, met Lenny Kravitz als ultieme headliner, was al heel snel uitverkocht.

Wie erbij wil zijn, moet snel zijn
De organisatie verwacht dat ook de komende dagen nog een aantal keer zullen uitverkopen. "Met dit prachtige weer en een sublieme line-up zijn er weinig redenen om thuis te blijven. Wie er nog bij wil zijn, doet er dus goed aan snel tickets te kopen", aldus Latre.

Opnieuw livestream
Ook dit jaar bieden de Lokerse Feesten opnieuw een reeks concerten aan via livestream. Zo wordt een groot deel van de concerten van vandaag rechtstreeks uitgezonden via de website van het festival. Het volledige livestreamprogramma wordt telkens kort op voorhand bekendgemaakt.

Across two sun-drenched weekends, 400,000 People of Tomorrow from over 200 countries shared six primal emotions and one world of music. And the Consciencia story has only just begun.

End July, 2026 - The music has faded. The lights have gone dark. And yet, something lingers in the air above De Schorre: the unmistakable feeling of having lived inside something extraordinary.

For two consecutive weekends in July, Tomorrowland Belgium 2026 welcomed 400,000 People of Tomorrow from over 200 countries to the grounds of Boom. What brought them together was not just music. It was a world built entirely around the six primal emotions at the heart of this year's theme, Consciencia: Wonder, Love, Anger, Joy, Desire and Sadness. Across 16 spectacular stages, each corner of the festival became an invitation to feel something real -- and to feel it together.

And for the millions who could not make the journey to Belgium, the world came to them. Tomorrowland's global livestream reached a record-breaking 233 million views across YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram and other platforms, surpassing last year's 193 million and setting a new high watermark in the festival's history. In living rooms and on phone screens across every continent, hearts beat in unison with every drop, every melody, every moment of silence before the music takes over again.

A universe brought to life
Consciencia was not merely a theme. It was a shared experience, a creative universe that breathed and shifted across every stage, every light installation, and every set over the course of two weekends bathed in warm Belgian summer sun.

On the mainstage, the world's greatest artists gave everything they had. Martin Garrix delivered a closing spectacle that felt like the final chapter of a story worth reading twice. Calvin Harris turned the crowd into one single, euphoric organism. Dimitri Vegas commanded the stage with the energy of someone who understands, bone-deep, what Tomorrowland means. Amelie Lens held the night with raw intensity and relentless precision. David Guetta and Hardwell each brought their own brand of spectacle and craft. Lost Frequencies filled the afternoon with the kind of melody that follows you home and Charlotte De Witte surprised the People of Tomorrow with an unannounced performance.

Armin van Buuren guided his audience through highs and lows with the warmth and precision of someone who has stood on this stage many times and still treats it like the first. Steve Aoki turned his set into an event within an event, welcoming Latin superstar surprise guests Farruko and Greeicy to the stage in a moment that sent the crowd - and social media - into a frenzy. Afrojack and R3hab united for a b2b set of uncommon chemistry. Netsky reminded every corner of the crowd why drum and bass, when done like this, feels like a heartbeat. John Summit drove the dancefloor to the edge and held it there. NERVO brought their dual force of energy and sharp musicality. Oscar and the Wolf blurred every boundary between electronic and emotional. And Bebe Rexha became the very first American popstar to bring a New Religion to the iconic Freedom stage.

On the darker, deeper end of the spectrum, Sara Landry, Indira Paganotto and Miss Monique each carved out something singular: sets that held tension, pushed limits, and never let go. Symphony of Unity, as it does every year, stopped time entirely.

Belgium showed up for itself. Andromedik, Amber Broos, and MANDY each took the stage with the pride of artists who know exactly where they come from - and exactly where they are going.

From the youngest DJ, Knox Kind at only 11 years, old to the festival's oldest performer, Eko Roosevelt at 83 years old and everyone in between: Stories were told, memories were made, and passion was shared.

New names, new stories, new chapters
Perhaps no story of Tomorrowland Belgium 2026 is told more powerfully than the one written by those making their mainstage debut.

Novah arrived on the mainstage and left it transformed. A set that moved between raw feeling and pure spectacle, it announced a name that belongs in the biggest conversations in electronic music - and proved that Consciencia had room for the future as much as for the icons.

Marlon Hoffstadt brought his infectious blend of house and personality to the mainstage in a debut full of joy and complete self-assurance. And Chase & Status, legends of the UK drum and bass scene, delivered a debut that felt both long overdue and perfectly timed: a set that bridged worlds and left tens of thousands of people breathless in the best possible way.
