De Japans-Amerikaanse Mitski komt opnieuw naar België en staat op zaterdag 9 mei in Vorst Nationaal (Brussel). Haar vorige twee shows in het Koninklijk Circus waren binnen enkele uren uitverkocht; dit is de volgende kans voor het Belgische publiek om haar intens en genuanceerd repertoire live te ervaren. Op het podium weet Mitski keer op keer te betoveren; critici beschrijven haar optredens als "a mesmerizing study in movement" (Variety), "highly stylized, brilliantly realized, super cool" (Philadelphia Inquirer) en "unusual, enigmatic and utterly compelling" (The Guardian).

Nu presenteert Mitski "I'll Change for You", de tweede single van haar aanstaande album Nothing's About to Happen to Me, dat op 27 februari 2026 via Dead Oceans verschijnt. Na de "indie-rock anthem" (Billboard) "Where's My Phone?", is "I'll Change for You" nostalgisch en mid-tempo, met Mitski's prachtige vocale bereik ondersteund door een rijk arrangement van strijkers, drums en percussie, piano, gitaar, fluit en vibrafoon.
Sinds haar debuutalbum Lush (2012) wordt Mitski Miyawaki beschouwd als een van de meest geprezen singer-songwriters van haar generatie. Haar muziek vertrekt altijd vanuit een herkenbare kwetsbaarheid, gecombineerd met gelaagde arrangementen en een uitgesproken artistieke visie. Ze beweegt zich moeiteloos tussen dreampop, goth folk en indierock, en verweeft orkestrale elementen met synths en haar kenmerkende emotionele vocalen. Zo weet ze zowel de TikTok-generatie als liefhebbers van alternatieve en undergroundmuziek te raken.
Op 9 mei in Vorst Nationaal zal Mitski dit nieuwe repertoire live brengen, samen met eerdere hits en favorieten uit haar rijke carrière. Het belooft een avond te worden waarin fans het beste van beide werelden ervaren: vertrouwde klassiekers en splinternieuwe nummers, uitgevoerd met de diepgang en nuance die Mitski zo uniek maken.

Even voorstellen – Broken Social Scene – Remember the humans
Broken Social Scene have announced the May 8 release of their new album Remember The Humans via Arts & Crafts. Marking their first new studio album in nearly a decade, the LP reunites the Toronto collective with producer David Newfeld, who helmed their breakthrough You Forgot It in People (2002) and self-titled 2005 album. Across the 12 tracks the arrangements are dense and enveloping - a lattice of horns, guitars, voices, and electronics - yet melody always remains sovereign, refusing to be swallowed by the sheer sound. When the music drifts towards abstraction, a grounding bass line arrives to anchor the listener, reminding us always that there are human hands on the controls and that, however artful, this is still rock and roll.
This sensibility crystallizes in Remember The Humans’ opening track and lead single “Not Around Anymore,” where Broken Social Scene’s co-founder Kevin Drew incants about the disappearance of possibility in a world where "it's all gone away." But the nostalgia hinted at by the lyrics is gently resisted by the music: by invoking a past that has vanished, the song unexpectedly floods the present with a glow that rivals the very greatness being lamented.
Broken Social Scene also announced a major North American tour with their friends Metric and Stars. The “All The Feelings Tour” dates kick off June 8 in Austin, TX and conclude August 7 in their hometown of Toronto. Along the way the tour will stop in Los Angeles on June 16 for a show at The Greek Theatre and at Brooklyn’s Brooklyn Paramount on July 30. Metric is on all dates as the co-headliner and Stars will be on the run supporting both bands.
Remember the Humans was shaped by reunion and loss in equal measure. When Drew and Newfeld reconnected after nearly 20 years apart, one hangout became what they call "a hurricane of fun." During the recording, both lost their mothers - a shared grief that drew them closer. As Newfeld recalls, "our moms would have wanted us to do this, and get it right after 20 years of not working together."
As ever, Broken Social Scene operates less as a band than as a community and songs evolve by ceding control to whoever can best carry them forward in the moment. Drew may be the designated driver, but collaborators on Remember the Humans, including Hannah Georgas, Lisa Lobsinger, and Feist, step into the foreground throughout the record, shaping songs with a sense of collective authorship that has always defined the group’s ethos.
The songs work because no one fully commands them. But this is where Newfeld matters most. As BSS’s Charles Spearin puts it, "his production suits the chaos of our songwriting so well...he's got a childlike energy that is really contagious, when you get a piece of music that he loves, Oh my God, he's bouncing like a little boy."
The same unruly energy that keeps a band young can also trap it in its own past. Yet on Remember the Humans, Broken Social Scene have evolved with a deep sense of intention. It is the sound of a band deepening rather than reinventing, exploring the emotional implications of forms they’ve spent twenty years shaping. "There's a different kind of honesty in this record," says Spearin, "we've had success, we've lost friends, we've lost parents, we're at this 'what happens next?' stage in life." Remember the Humans is adult music in the best sense: contradictory, wounded, expansive - hopeful in a way that feels earned rather than declared. And it is also, in its refusal of control and its embrace of the ungovernable, a testament to something increasingly rare: art that is not optimized, not streamlined, not strategic.
BSS’s own evolution mirrors something happening outside it. After years of oversaturation and noise, the culture itself seems to have looped back to a craving for the raw, the communal, and the unguarded. The conditions that made You Forgot It in People feel necessary in 2002 have, in altered form, returned in 2026. According to Drew, "in 2026, you're going to see a lot of resurgence of people going back to the roots of who they are, because things in their lifetime have gotten quite lost. I think we've let each other down, and I think it's art that always tries to prevail, and tries to get us back on track."
In a culture defined by abstraction and distance, Broken Social Scene have made a record that insists on the analog fact of human presence. It asks, gently, but insistently, that we remember each other, that we remember the human.

M HKA presenteert programma 2026
Het M HKA (Museum van Hedendaagse Kunst Antwerpen) kondigt zijn programma voor 2026 aan: een jaar dat nadrukkelijk inzet op kunstenaarspraktijken, urgente thema’s en publieksparticipatie. Met tentoonstellingen en projecten die zowel instappers als kenners aanspreken, onderstreept het museum zijn kern: hedendaagse kunst als gedeelde ervaring, niet als gesloten bastion.
M HKA, een museum dat door kunstenaars werd gebouwd

Er is een bijzonder verhaal over het M HKA dat nog te weinig bekend is. Terwijl veel kunstmusea historisch werden opgericht door individuele mecenassen (denk Tate, Museum Ludwig, Van Abbe), speelden bij de oprichting van het M HKA net kunstenaars een doorslaggevende rol. Zij schonken werken om de basis te leggen voor een collectie van een nieuwe instelling in Antwerpen. Uiteindelijk besliste de Vlaamse Gemeenschap om het M HKA op te richten als het eerste museum voor hedendaagse kunst in België. In 1987 opende het museum de deuren. Sindsdien beschouwt M HKA zich als een kunstenaarsgericht museum.
Ons programma voor 2026 blijft die positie onderstrepen. Naast tentoonstellingen die de kans bieden om kennis te maken met belangrijke artistieke praktijken – van opkomende stemmen tot pioniers van de historische avant-garde, van lokaal verankerde kunstenaars tot een multipolaire wereld – willen we ook ingaan op urgente kwesties die kunstenaars vandaag raken. De tentoonstellingen nemen de hardheid van censuur onder de loep en stellen de ongelijkheid aan de orde waarmee kunstenaars geconfronteerd worden. Tegelijk reflecteren ze, elk op hun manier, op het tekort aan politieke verbeelding waarvan zulke fenomenen vaak een symptoom zijn.
Het M HKA wil een ontmoetingspunt zijn: een plek waar ons publiek niet alleen in contact komt met artistieke praktijken van wereldniveau, maar ook met hun scherpe en maatschappelijk relevante perspectieven. 2027 wordt een mijlpaaljaar omdat het M HKA dan zijn veertigste verjaardag viert. In de aanloop daarnaartoe wil het programma van 2026 onze gemeenschappen een vitale ruimte bieden voor reflectie: over de rol van kunstenaars en culturele instellingen in de samenleving, én over wat nodig is om artistieke praktijken duurzaam te ondersteunen in een woelig politiek klimaat.
WAT ER TE DOEN IS: M HKA ALS ONTMOETINGSPLEK
Het M HKA beschouwt publiekswerking niet als extra, maar als kern van de werking. In 2026 is er een rijk aanbod met onder meer maandelijkse kunstenaarsgesprekken FRONT ROW, gegidste rondleidingen voor groot en klein (M HKADEE), begeleide wandeling in de wijk het Zuid, avondopeningen, en elk seizoen een familiedag. In april lanceren we KUNSTKLEPPERS, een nieuw familiespel.
Het M HKA sluit ook aan bij toegankelijke evenementen zoals Schatten van Vlieg, Museumnacht, DAKKAN.festival en Kunstendag voor Kinderen, en is de centrale hub tijdens Antwerp Art Weekend.

EINDE VAN DE GROOTSTE RESTAURATIEFASE IN DE GESCHIEDENIS VAN DE VOORUIT
over erfgoed, duurzaamheid, Unesco, nieuwe kansen in het programma en de openingsweek
Vanaf dinsdag 3 februari staat De Vooruit, het Gentse volkshuis uit 1913, er terug in volle glorie. Na dringende restauraties aan de achtergevel en de zuidertoren tijdens corona, is nu ook de tweede fase van de restauratie achter de rug.
Gestart in augustus 2024, werd gedurende 17 maanden gewerkt aan de volledige voorbouw: de façade werd grondig gerestaureerd en gekuist, de Balzaal, de Domzaal, het café, de centrale trappenhal en drie repetitiestudio’s voor kunstenaars kregen een ingrijpende opfrisbeurt.
De Vooruit is eigendom van de Coöperatie Vooruit Nr1 (nu Immocov) en is tot 2051 in erfpacht bij kunstencentrum VIERNULVIER. VIERNULVERI staat als bouwheer in voor de coördinatie en een gedeeltelijke financiering van de werken.

Verschillende singer-songwriters blazen nieuw leven in elkaars nummers en brengen die 's avonds samen op het podium.

Onze Tiny Tunes reeks met kinderconcerten zet zich verder met namen zoals Spinvis (sold out), Dressed Like Boys en De Dolfijntjes (laatste tickets).
Samen met het Made in China Festival halen we de Chinese cultuur naar Gent. Het programma start met het concert Magic Strings & Wild Winds (6+), gevolgd door een workshop kalligrafie in de foyer. Gecureerd door Sarah Yu Zeebroek.
Tot slot is het tragikomisch circusspektakel Pandax, dat in mei twee weken lang te zien is op de Arsenaalsite.

Lawijtstrijd - Lawijtstrijd - Muziekconcours Waasland
LAWIJSTRIJD, het legendarische muziekconcours van het Waasland is terug in een samenwerkingsverband van De Casino Concertzaal, Lokerse Feesten, Crammerock en jeugdhuizen Den Eglantier (De Nest), De Cramme en Okapi. De wedstrijd wordt ondersteund door Cultuurtuin Waas (Interwaas) en de stads- en gemeentebesturen van Lokeren, Sint- Niklaas en Stekene. (zie info site )
AFTRAP: Drie spots worden vrijgehouden voor jonge talenten uit de buurt die hun kans willen wagen om op één van onze podia te spelen die dag. Zij ontvangen naast podiumervaring en eeuwige roem ook catering en drankbonnen voor een dolle avond. Concreet zijn we op zoek naar allround dj’s, maar ook dj’s en live acts uit de hardere en experimentele elektronische genres zijn welkom met hun inzendingen.
De Tijdloze: Tijd voor 90: De Tijdloze en De Casino slaan jaarlijks de handen in elkaar om het muziekrepertoire van de gouden jaren negentig te vieren. Ontstaan als eindejaarslijst op Studio Brussel en na 35 jaar uitgegroeid tot een muzikaal begrip, vervelde De Tijdloze (100) in 2018 tot een onafhankelijk online radiokanaal (VRT MAX / DAB+) waar onder meer Stijn Van De Voorde (For Those About To Rock) en Roos Van Acker (Jouw Tijdloze Ochtenradio) de pop- en rockgeschiedenis alle eer aandoen. Liefhebbers van nostalgische hits kunnen sindsdien afstemmen op deze volwassen geworden digitale stream om er vierentwintig uur per dag, zeven dagen per week de beste klassiekers te beluisteren.
GREAT GIGS IN THE PARK Tien extraordinaire concertavonden De Casino Concertzaal en het stadsbestuur Sint-Niklaas presenteren een derde editie van Great Gigs in the Park. Deze reeks openluchtconcerten, die plaatsvinden in de feeërieke setting van het historische Casino Park (DC terras), wordt dit jaar gespreid over drie weken (van woensdag 14 juni tot donderdag 6 juli) en bundelt in die periode tien extraordinaire openluchtshows op de Casino[1]kiosk. Gezelligheid is het codewoord tijdens Great Gigs in the Park, want voor elk concertavonden worden slechts 600 tickets aangeboden. Programma De line-up van Great Gigs in the Park biedt een staalkaart van waar de Casino voor staat, zijnde een veelheid aan uiteenlopende muziekgenres: van hardrock en post-metal over elektrofunk en groove tot roots en droompop. De Casino presenteert ook elke concertavond een uitgekiende support-act: laureaten van Lawijtstrijd, speerpunten uit de Brusselse elektrojazz-hype, punk-calamiteiten, een crossover tussen doom en oriëntal, maar ook western swing-adepten en singer-songwriters.

Conservamus Symphony Orchestra luidt symbolisch start werken Conservatorium Brussel in
20 februari in Bozar
De restauratie van het Brussels Conservatorium is officieel van start gegaan. Dat werd gisteren aangekondigd op een persconferentie door de betrokken overheden en bouwpartners. Een indrukwekkend restauratie- en vernieuwingsproject stoomt de iconische gebouwen klaar voor de toekomst. Ter gelegenheid van dit sleutelmoment organiseert Conservamus Symphony Orchestra op 20 februari een groots symfonisch concert in Bozar, met studenten van de conservatoria uit de Vlaamse en Franse gemeenschap. Het concert telt voor het eerst ook mee in hun puntensysteem.
Een symfonisch concert markeert de start van de werkzaamheden
Om dit sleutelmoment te vieren, organiseert Conservamus op 20 februari 2026 om 20:00 een groots symfonisch concert in de Henry Le Bœufzaal van Bozar. Meer dan 100 studenten van het Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel en het Conservatoire royal de Bruxelles komen samen in het Conservamus Symphony Orchestra, een project dat volledig geïntegreerd is in het opleidingsprogramma van beide instellingen en dat een levend symbool vormt van de verbinding tussen erfgoed, onderwijs en toekomst. Onder leiding van Nicolás Pasquet brengt het orkest een uitzonderlijk programma met Richard Strauss (Eine Alpensinfonie) en Maurice Ravel (Daphnis et Chloé, Suite nr. 2). Een krachtig muzikaal moment, net voor het Conservatorium tijdelijk tot stilte komt tijdens de renovatiewerken.

Belgian atmospheric black doom metal band SPLENDIDULA releases new single "Kilte"
Belgian atmospheric black doom band Splendidula presents Kilte, the second single from their upcoming album Absentia, set for release on April 3 2026, via Argonauta Records. Following the emotionally charged first single Echoes Of Quiet Remain, Kilte stands as the album's most intense and searing moment. Tormented screams, relentless energy and hauntingly atmospheric passages ultimately unfold into a lingering climax, carrying the listener through a frozen landscape of grief, isolation and inner torment.
Splendidula – Kilte (New Single | Out Now)
Written in the aftermath of several personal tragedies, Absentia opens a new and vulnerable chapter for Splendidula. The album was created during a period marked by the passing of loved ones, including bassist Peter Chromiak. Musically, the band blends black metal and doom with fragile atmospheric passages, creating a sound drenched in sorrow, tension and introspection.
Vocalist Kristien comments: "The lyrics for Kilte (Dutch for Coldness) were written in the immediate aftermath of personal loss, born in tears and carrying an unbearable weight. Choosing our native language allowed the emotions to surface without filters. BAND BIO
Splendidula is an atmospheric black doom band from Belgium, active since 2008. Over the years, three full-length albums have been released: Splendidula, Post Mortem and Somnus, shaping a sound defined by crushing riffs, layered vocals and dense melancholy. In 2022, the sudden loss of bassist Peter Chromiak left a profound impact, leading to a lineup rebuild and a shift toward even more emotionally charged music. The standalone single Behind My Semblance (2024) offered a first glimpse into this evolution.

ESPERANZAH! DÉVOILE UNE GRANDE PARTIE DE SA PROGRAMMATION DE L'ÉTÉ !
Cet été encore, l’Abbaye de Floreffe se métamorphosera du 31 juillet au 2 août 2026 pour accueillir l’île Esperanzah! : un territoire éphémère où se rencontrent musique, fête et résistance face à la montée de l’extrême droite.
Dans un secteur culturel dominé par l'uniformisation et la course aux têtes d'affiche, Esperanzah! fait le choix de la différence. Le festival propose une programmation audacieuse portée par des artistes fort·es, des voix porteuses d'espoir et des univers que vous ne trouverez nulle part ailleurs en Belgique cet été.
LA PROGRAMMATION EN DÉTAILS
VENDREDI 31 JUILLET
Vendredi, les frontières musicales explosent avec Lia Kali, l’une des voix les plus puissantes de la scène espagnole et récente lauréate du Grand Prix du Jury et du Public aux MME Awards. Elle partagera l’affiche côté Jardin avec les incontournables Scylla et Furax Barbarossa, Ino Casablanca, étoile montante du rap, ainsi que Meryem Aboulouafa, dont la voix clair-obscur nous parvient tout droit de Casablanca.
Sur la scène Nova, la jeune génération sera à l’honneur avec 2L, révélation remarquée de la 4ᵉ saison de Nouvelle École, et Bamby, reine du dancehall. La musique puissante et salvatrice d’Emel résonnera également, tandis que le live band prendra toute sa place avec les musicien·nes de Total Hip Replacement & Anyankofo.
La scène Rugissante ne sera pas en reste, avec des propositions fortes et engagées incarnées par Maddy Street et Les Vulves Assassines.
SAMEDI 1ER AOÛT
Le grand Kery James viendra porter ses textes engagés et incisifs face aux injustices. Luiza fera rayonner son « soleil bleu » sur la scène Jardin ou performera également la multi-instrumentiste Bia Ferreira.
Coté Nova, on retrouvera Ana Frango Elétrico, figure brillante de la nouvelle musique brésilienne, l'afro-funk punchy de Ibibio Sound Machine, Arthur Fu Bandini et sa chanson française, alternative et indocile, tandis que le live band Hypercontent! transformera la scène en club ultra dansant
DIMANCHE 2 AOÛT
La scène fédératrice de l'île accueillera la star malienne à la renommée internationale Rokia Traoré, dont la musique incarne la liberté, la transmission et la résistance. Cap sur l’Italie ensuite avec La Niña : véritable déflagration féministe, elle réinvente les savoirs anciens au rythme d’une transe napolitaine qui cumule des millions de streams. On y retrouvera également le duo belge Colt, à la croisée de l’électropop et de la chanson française, ainsi que Yoa qui bouscule son public avec un show puissant. On termine en beauté avec le groupe mexicain Son Rompe Pera et sa cumbia punk déchaînée.
Côté Nova, les festivalier·es pourront également découvrir le groupe électro-instrumental bruxellois Tukan, ainsi que la chanteuse Melina, entre tradition grecque et modernité.
La scène Rugissante laissera place à des performances puissantes avec Chocolate Remix, grande dame et icône du reggaeton lesbien, Mathilde, chanteuse inspirante militant pour l’acceptation de soi à travers sa musique, ou encore Nsangu dont l'univers mélange racines congolaises, néo-soul et nostalgie d'Aznavour.
