Now singer songwriter Caspar Auwerkerken releases "Blossom", the opening track from his upcoming debut album "Figuring Out My Horizons", set for release on February 27th on V2 Records.
"Blossom" was the first song the band and I managed to arrange in the aesthetic this album seeks to explore: a more minimalist sound that embraces space and quietude. Rather than relying on an elaborate arrangement, I wanted to create energy by recording the four of us together in one room—drawing more from influences like Pinback, early dEUS, Silver Jews, and Pavement, as well as contemporary acts such as Big Thief and Amen Dunes." Caspar explains about the song.
All songs on "Figuring Out My Horizons" are thematic in nature, drawing inspiration from philosophy, visual art, and the natural world. A central theme concerns how humanity deals with climate change in a worldthat is becoming increasingly materialistic and detached, and what concepts like authenticity and genuineness still mean:
"What does it mean to be human today, and how can one live authentically in the world?"
At the same time, the songs also symbolize his search for inner peace, an attempt to respond to an anxiety disorder that at times rears its head intensely. The album is an act of resistance against fear — a manifestation of his "self" as something crystallized out of that fear, yet simultaneously offering a constructive counterbalance to a destructive force.
Loyal sources of inspiration that guide him in exploring these questions — and that are sometimes referenced directly — include philosophers Friedrich Nietzsche and Henry David Thoreau, and poets Arthur Rimbaud and Georg Trakl.

The winners of the Music Moves Europe Awards (MME Awards) were officially unveiled during a festive awards ceremony at Eurosonic Noorderslag (ESNS) in Groningen, the Netherlands, on Thursday, 15 January 2026. The evening marked a defining moment for Europe’s next generation of musical talent; Camille Yembe (Belgium), Carpetman (Ukraine), Della (Cyprus), Sarah Julia (Netherlands) and Sofie Royer (Austria) are the winners of an MME Award. The prestigious Grand Jury Prize was awarded to Lia Kali (Spain). And Lia Kali also received the MME Public Choice Award, as chosen by music fans across Europe and beyond.

CAMILLE YEMBE WINT DE MUSIC MOVES EUROPE AWARD 2026
Camille Yembe werd bekroond met een Music Moves Europe Award 2026, de officiële prijs van de Europese Unie die de meest veelbelovende opkomende talenten van Europa in de kijker zet.
De Brusselse artieste vervoegt zo een erg selecte groep winnaars van de MME Awards, met namen als Stromae, Dua Lipa, ROSALÍA, Christine and the Queens en Zaho de Sagazan.
De overwinning werd bekendgemaakt in Groningen tijdens het festival Eurosonic Noorderslag (bekijk de beelden hier). De Brusselse zangeres viel op met haar unieke universum waarin indie, soul, funk en pop naadloos samenvloeien. Ze mag zich nu verheugen op een enorme zichtbaarheid binnen de Europese en internationale muziekindustrie, van BBC Radio 1 en NPR tot Spotify, en langs de grootste festivals van het continent.
En dit is nog maar het begin!

Camille Yembe is die elektrische stem die de Belgische popscene overstijgt. Ontdekt door Stromae en geprezen door onder meer France Inter, Konbini, Les Inrocks en Libération, weet ze als geen ander de vele gezichten van popmuziek te verkennen met scherpe, rake teksten. Na samenwerkingen met Tiakola, Stéfi Celma en Eva Queen koos ze resoluut voor een solocarrière en bewijst ze sindsdien dat ze een vaste plek verdient binnen het Franstalige muzieklandschap.

UITVERKOCHTE JUBILEUMEDITIE EUROSONIC NOORDERSLAG VIERT EUROPESE EN NEDERLANDSE MUZIEKSECTOR
De 40ste editie van ESNS (Eurosonic Noorderslag) – het belangrijkste showcasefestival voor opkomende Europese muziek – sloot vanavond af met een indrukwekkende line-up met Nederlands talent op Noorderslag. Bijna 300 Europese acts uit 39 landen speelden voor ongeveer 40.000 enthousiaste liefhebbers, waarvan 4.000 professionals, uit alle uithoeken van de wereld. ESNS 2026 is met 7000 festivaltickets en 4000 Delegate Passes volledig uitverkocht. Dat staat gelijk aan meer dan 25.000 betaalde bezoeken aan het festival en de conferentie.
Festivals Eurosonic en Noorderslag
Op woensdagavond 14 januari werd het festival op een spectaculaire manier geopend door Koningin Máxima en directeur Anna van Nunen, waarna Eurosonic direct losbarstte in de zalen van De Oosterpoort. Op donderdag 15 en vrijdag 16 januari stond de hele binnenstad van Groningen volledig in het teken van Eurosonic, waar op 18 podia opkomende Europese acts hun talent lieten zien aan duizenden muziekliefhebbers en professionals uit de muziekindustrie. Op zaterdag 17 januari maakte de conferentie plaats voor Noorderslag, waar de beste opkomende en reeds gevestigde artiesten uit Nederland te aanschouwen waren in De Oosterpoort.
De Popprijs, die ieder jaar wordt uitgereikt tijdens Noorderslag, werd gewonnen door Suzan & Freek. De Popprijs wordt uitgereikt aan de band of artiest die in het afgelopen jaar de belangrijkste bijdrage heeft geleverd aan de Nederlandse popmuziek. Conferentie
De ESNS Conferentie werd bezocht door meer dan 4.000 muziekprofessionals uit de hele wereld. Meer dan 520 sprekers namen deel aan paneldiscussies, workshops en keynotes over een breed scala aan prikkelende en actuele onderwerpen.
Onder het overkoepelende thema Europe Calling blikt ESNS terug op een succesvolle jubileumeditie. Vier dagen lang veranderde Groningen in het middelpunt van de Europese muzieksector.
Awards
Tijdens ESNS 2026 werden weer prestigieuze prijzen uitgereikt over de gehele breedte van de Europese muziekindustrie. De jaarlijkse Music Moves Europe (MME) Awards gingen dit jaar naar Sofie Royer (Oostenrijk), Camille Yembe (België), Sarah Julia (Nederland), Della (Cyprus) en Carpetman (Oekraïne). Lia Kali (Spanje) ging naar huis met zowel de Grand Jury Award als de Public Choice Award.
Ook de European Festival Awards, de IJzeren Podiumdieren, de Pop Media Prijs en het Pop Stipendium werden dit jaar uitgereikt. Tijdens Popgala NOORD, op de vooravond van ESNS, werden prijzen toegekend ter ere van de noordelijke popsector. Daarnaast werd op Popgala NOORD dit jaar de Pop Media Prijs Noord voor het eerst uitgereikt.
ESNS 2027
Vanaf 30 januari 2026 begint de early bird-verkoop van de Delegate Passes. Artiesten kunnen zich aanmelden voor het showcasefestival vanaf 1 maart 2026.
Over ESNS
ESNS is hét Europese platform voor opkomend muzikaal talent. Elk jaar in januari verandert Groningen in het kloppende hart van de Europese muziekindustrie, wanneer ESNS haar showcasefestival en muziekconferentie organiseert. De laatste dag staat in het teken Noorderslag, al sinds 1986 de graadmeter voor de Nederlandse popmuziek. Alleen de meest veelbelovende Europese en Nederlandse artiesten krijgen hier de kans zich te presenteren aan muziekliefhebbers en professionals.
Het hele jaar door ondersteunt ESNS talent via initiatieven zoals de European Talent Exchange en reikt het belangrijke prijzen uit, waaronder de Music Moves Europe Awards, de European Festival Awards en de Popprijs. Bookending “This Is My Blood “ are two cinematic hypnotist slide lute pieces that evoke contemporary deserted landscapes. They were improvised and made for “ Maquina”, a film shot in the Colorado desert during a psychedelic trip by film maker Joaquim Pujol. The works on here, like the ecstatic second piece invite a return to long form listening. They explore contemporary darkness and contemplate personal loss. There is solely one vocal piece, “ Remission”.
A worldwide concert tour of this material is slated for 2026/2027.
Since studying the lute in New York with Patrick O'Brien in the 1990s, Van Wissem has gone on to create works equally as rooted in classical Renaissance and Baroque forms of lute music, as contemporary sounds spanning drones, electronics and field recordings. Throw in some of his formative influences from the no wave and industrial scenes, alongside a dedicated approach to minimalism and this has resulted in Van Wissem producing distinct and singular work whose sound is often a marriage of opposites; meditative and intense, forward thinking but with a sense of the arcane. The Quietus has called him "probably the most famous lutenist in the world”.
Jozef Van Wissem is an avant-garde composer and lutenist who plays a unique all-black baroque lute. His timeless music is often described as hypnotic, minimal, and hauntingly atmospheric, merging beauty with a dark, meditative edge. His lyrics have a mythical Christian appeal, incorporating themes of love, faith, and the afterlife, often with a repetitive, mantra-like quality. Bridging classical traditions with modern sounds like drones, electronics, field recordings and voice.
He collaborates with filmmaker and musician Jim Jarmusch, including the award-winning soundtrack for Only Lovers Left Alive, for which Van Wissem won the Cannes Soundtrack Award in 2013. He also scored the Sims Medieval Video game ( 2011), Uncle Howard ( 2016) Land (2018), Irma Vep (2022), Queens (2023) and Un Prince (2024). He did a world tour in duo with Jarmusch in 2025 and their 5th record “ The Day The Angels Cried” was released.
Van Wissem tours extensively, performing in diverse venues from rock festivals to churches, and has worked with artists like Tilda Swinton and Zola Jesus. In 2019 he was commissioned by Cinematheque Francaise to score the silent horror film Nosferatu (1922). He released the soundtrack in 2022 on his own Incunabulum label. The New York Times wrote: Beginning with a solo played on the lute, his performance will incorporate electric guitar and distorted recordings of extinct birds, graduating from subtlety to gothic horror. “My soundtrack goes from silence to noise over the course of 90 minutes,” he said, culminating in “dense, slow death metal.” In 2024 Van Wissem did a sold out nationwide American tour with the film. MT Gemini is terug met ‘Hawk Deh Near’, zijn meest volwassen en radicale album tot nu toe.
De titel is ontleend aan een Jamaicaans spreekwoord, “Chicken merry, hawk deh near”, wat vertaald kan worden als “als de kip tevreden is, is de arend nooit ver weg”, een dubbelzinnige uitdrukking die humor en waarschuwing combineert. Een formule die de centrale spanning van het album samenvat: een schijnbare luchtigheid die voortdurend wordt bedreigd door een sluimerend geweld dat op elk moment kan toeslaan.
Hawk Deh Near lijkt meer op een bezwering dan op een reproductie van een genre en transformeert reggae in experimentele, muterende elektronische muziek, die op het ene anders-zijn reageert met een ander, niet minder fascinerend anders-zijn. Fragmenten van ritmes, melodieën en texturen worden bewust uit hun context gehaald, uitgerekt, verzadigd, verdraaid, om composities te creëren die zowel schurend als hypnotiserend zijn. Herhaling, verzadiging en een neiging tot psychedelica worden instrumenten voor sonische deconstructie, waardoor conventionele structuren omvallen naar onstabiele, getransfigureerde vormen die nieuwe reizen mogelijk maken.
Hawk Deh Near is opgenomen, geproduceerd en gemixt door Yannick Franck volgens een aanpak die haaks staat op de gladde en hypergecontroleerde normen van digitale productie. De nadruk ligt op textuur, imperfectie, psycho-akoestische fenomenen en emotionele directheid. Instabiliteit wordt volledig omarmd: ongelukjes en vervormingen dragen actief bij aan de uiteindelijke vorm van de nummers. Deze methode sluit aan bij het centrale thema van het album, een wilde kruising van culturen en genres waarin emotie en intuïtie de overhand hebben op vooraf vastgestelde systemen.

Naast MT Gemini ontwikkelt Yannick Franck een uitgebreide praktijk waarin hij geluidskunst, film, performance, onderzoek naar geluids- en audiovisuele perceptie combineert met het overbrengen en onderwijzen van deze disciplines. Zijn parcours brengt hem regelmatig in contact met de beeldende kunst, de film en de performancekunst. Hij werkte onder meer samen met modeontwerper Walter Van Beirendonck in zijn voormalige duo Orphan Swords, en zijn muziek werd gebruikt in de Britse serie Top Boy. Deze transdisciplinaire benadering komt rechtstreeks tot uiting in de audiovisuele performances van MT Gemini, waarin geluid veel meer is dan alleen een muzikale dimensie.

Labelman news - Rosie Stuart wins Sound Track, second single “Cupid” out now
We’re releasing a new single from one of Belgium’s most promising voices: Rosie Stuart!
Rosie recently became one of the eighteen laureates of Sound Track, a Belgian music competition organized by VI.BE, after winning the finals in December at Ha Concerts in Ghent.
In total, 1300 (!) bands registered for the competition.
What does this win mean? It means that Rosie earned a year of tailored guidance, studio time, a four-day bootcamp alongside the other laureates, national exposure and international showcase opportunities.
“Cupid” is the second and final single from Rosie’s EP “Cupid / Vegan”.
