V2 records news – Blaudzun – ‘best of’ album, best of Blaudzun
BLAUDZUN Announces Best-Of Album, "Best of Blaudzun"
ALBUM OUT 3 APRIL
With nearly twenty years on the road, multiple #1 albums, gold records and a cabinet full of awards, Blaudzun, who remains an indispensable force in the Dutch and Belgian pop landscape, will release Best Of Blaudzun on 3 April.
This beautifully produced compilation offers an overview of twenty years of Blaudzun songs, ranging from fan favourites to defining tracks from his career. Best Of Blaudzun features 17 tracks and will be released on double 12" vinyl and double CD. In addition to well-known hits such as Promises of No Man's Land, Hey Now and Real Hero, the album includes unmistakable Blaudzun classics like Heavy Flowers, Too Many Hopes For July and the intimate Wolf's Behind The Glass.
"A collection like this is a wonderful document, both for loyal fans and for new listeners," says Blaudzun. "I discovered The Beatles and The Cure through compilation albums myself. It's a pleasant way to step inside — like a gateway to a larger musical universe."
"Often it feels like I've only just begun, yet I've been doing this for more than twenty years now: writing, singing, recording, performing," Blaudzun continues. "This compilation is meant to celebrate those years. And it feels good to return to V2 Records with this release after a short detour. For me, this album also marks the closing of a first musical chapter," he adds. "I'm looking ahead, without time pressure, and am currently working on a new studio album."
In addition to the album, the book Blaudzun. In the Footsteps of a Pop Icon (De Bezige Bij) will be published on 19 March. At the invitation of bestselling author Ronald Giphart, the Utrecht-based singer allowed himself to be followed for nearly two years — during performances, international tours, at home and behind the scenes. The result is a fascinating and in-depth book that reads like a cross between a pop biography and a road movie.
"The book shows what life as a musician is really like — less rosy than many people might think. It also deals with love, death, my love for music, God and faith, and the incredibly beautiful things I've experienced." Using the book and the best-of album as a starting point, Blaudzun will tour the country from April onwards with his first solo theatre show. An evening filled with familiar songs and personal stories, promising a rich and intimate glimpse into what Blaudzun himself describes as: "a universe of devilish music, religious trauma, and my passion for cycling. And an answer to the question of why my glasses are so big."
