Deze volledig Belgische liveproductie brengt de meest iconische muziek uit de legendarische 007-filmreeks naar het grote podium, uitgevoerd door een ijzersterke liveband en drie topvocalisten (kortweg: James' Band). Het publiek wordt in een adembenemende mix van muzikale spanning en pure klasse meegenomen van 'Goldfinger' (Shirley Bassey), 'Live and Let Die' (Paul McCartney), 'GoldenEye' (Tina Turner) en 'Skyfall' (Adèle), tot 'Writing’s on the Wall' (Sam Smith) en 'No Time to Die' (Billie Eilish). Even legendarisch als de James Bond-films, zijn de vaak iconische soundtracks die elke filmrelease in de succesvolle franchise ondersteunen. Naast de vraag wie de rol van de Britse geheim agent zal vertolken, rijst bij elke nieuwe filmaankondiging dan ook meteen de vraag: wie zal de theme song brengen en hoe zal die klinken? Van het wereldberoemde thema van John Barry en Monty Norman bij 'Dr. No' uit 1962 - de messcherpe gitaarriff die nog steeds weerklinkt bij het begin van elke film - tot de eerste mysterieuze tonen van 'GoldenEye' (Tina Turner, 1995) en de meeslepende intensiteit van Adele’s Skyfall (2012): muziek vormt al decennialang het kloppende hart van de 007-filmreeks.

LAWIJTSTRIJD 2026: DE FINALE IS BESLIST!
LOKEREN. De derde en laatste voorronde van LAWIJTSTRIJD ’26 is gestreden. Opnieuw in een stampvol jeugdhuis. 250 bezoekers zakten afgelopen zaterdag af naar Den Okapi in Lokeren om hun favorieten aan het werk te zien. De spanning ging daarbij in stijgende lijn met Een Tegen Reactie en Cracks om te eindigen in een muzikale explosie tijdens de concerten van Lokerse publiekslievelingen Mortel en Syrion.
Een Tegen Reactie werd als eerste geloot en bracht een energieke set vol ska en politiek geëngageerde teksten waarmee ze het publiek al vroeg op de avond aanzetten tot een kleine moshpit dankzij hun aanwezige fans die de teksten meebrulden. Als tweede kregen we Cracks op het menu. Zij haalden in 2024 reeds de finale, maar namen opnieuw deel met 3 nieuwe nummers en brachten een energieke set mede dankzij de sterke frontman, Robbe Van Aken uit Stekene. Dat Mortel alles op alles had gezet voor deze thuismatch in eigen stad was duidelijk. Meer dan ooit waren de bandleden op elkaar afgestemd en hun charismatische frontman, Karel Baetens, in form. Het aanwezige publiek ging dan ook total loss. Ook Mortel nam voor de tweede keer deel aan LAWIJTSTRIJD ’26 met 3 nieuwe nummers. Maar dan moesten de jonge snaken van Syrion de buene nog bestijgen. Deze 19 en 20 jarige gasten zagen eruit alsof ze rechtstreeks uit de jaren ’80 zijn geteleporteerd en brachten Heavy Metal met alle toeters en bellen. Het applaus dat zij bij aanvang en na hun set mochten ontvangen was oorverdovend en tot ver buiten de Kerkstraat te horen.
Met 111,9 door het publiek geproduceerde decibels, wist Syrion aan de haal te gaan met de publieksprijs en bijhorende tickets voor een dag naar keuze voor de Lokerse Feesten. De derde finaleplaats ging uiteindelijk naar Mortel die de jury wist te overtuigen dankzij een energieke en strakke set, waarbij de leden goed op elkaar waren ingespeeld en hun frontman de boel liet ontploffen. Ook brachten zij in de ogen van de jury de strafste zongs!
De jury bestond opnieuw uit leden van de diverse partners waaronder De Casino, Lokerse Feesten en Crammerock, aangevuld door de Lokerse Yuki Asamoto (OSAYUKI en beatleverancier van Zwangere Guy als Chuki Beats).
Nieuw deze editie is dat er tevens 1 wildcard over de voorrondes heen wordt verdeeld waardoor ook de finale bijgevolg uit 4 acts zal bestaan. Deze wild card ging uiteindelijk naar de Sint-Niklase FINN die optrad tijdens de eerste voorronde.
Zondag 24 mei om 20 uur vindt de finale van LAWIJTSTRIJD ‘26 plaats in De Casino in Sint-Niklaas waar Daniel Perez, FINN, Mortel en UKUMAR zullen strijden voor de titel.

JELLE VAN DAEL LANCEERT NEDERLANDSTALIGE DEBUUTSINGLE ‘KLEUREN IN DE REGEN’
Jelle van Dael slaat deze lente een nieuwe weg in. Met “Kleuren in de regen” brengt ze voor het eerst een nummer in het Nederlands en laat ze een meer persoonlijke, pure kant van zichzelf horen.
De song ontstond op een intuïtieve manier. “Het ging vanzelf,” vertelt Jelle. “Ik ging zitten met een leeg blad en een gitaar en voor ik het wist, was het er. In het Nederlands. Alsof het zo moest zijn.”
“Kleuren in de regen” is een warme, kwetsbare song over houvast vinden in moeilijke momenten. In een wereld die soms te snel, te luid en te zwaar aanvoelt, gaat het nummer over die ene persoon bij wie je kan landen zonder uitleg. Iemand die rust brengt en opnieuw kleur geeft wanneer alles even grijs lijkt.
Jelle van Dael brak op jonge leeftijd door met haar overwinning in ‘Let’s Go Lasgo’, waarmee ze uitgroeide tot frontvrouw van een internationaal succesvolle eurodance-act. Die overwinning bracht haar van een klein dorp naar podia wereldwijd, van Scandinavië tot Australië, Brazilië en de UK.
Na twaalf jaar koos ze ervoor haar eigen weg te gaan. Sindsdien bleef ze zichtbaar op televisie en radio, met passages in onder meer Tien Om Te Zien, Radio 2, Qmusic en MNM, en een finaleplaats bij Eurosong.
Met “Kleuren in de regen” opent Jelle van Dael een nieuw hoofdstuk, dicht bij zichzelf en in haar eigen taal.

The Bug Club are back with a new album. It’s been a whole eleven months since their last. Where have they been?
Every Single Muscle, the band’s fifth LP, arrives May 29th, 2026 via Sub Pop, making it a hat-trick for the Welsh duo and their esteemed Seattle-based patrons. Since Very Human Features, which emerged in June of 2025, the non-stop tour has seen the BBC 6 Music and KEXP favourites ping-pong across the Atlantic like they used to the Severn Bridge. Various festival slots in the summer kept them from having any sort of holiday - who needs one when you live in Wales anyway? - until it was time to head back to the writing room.
So that answers that first question. Not that you’d have otherwise known. Ever self-effacing, songwriters Sam (guitar, vocals) and Tilly (bass, vocals) go as far as to claim that they’ve been sitting around “doing nothing at all” during track “It’s Our Manager David.” That’s clearly a lie. Every Single Muscle gets off to a full-throttle, chugging start with “Miss Wales 2012,” referencing a competition both Tilly and Sam have actually won. Dead serious. It’s the first of many sub-two-minute tracks on the album, setting the tone for The Bug Club’s punkiest offering yet and recalling both the short, sharp snaps of their very first singles and the grunt of recent releases. So packed is the album with wall-to-wall riffs and lyrical hooks rammed into tight confines that Sam actually asks permission to squeeze in a solo during second track “A Good Day for Dying.” He’s given two seconds.
Not that we’re short-changed, though, because Sam asks again later on and is granted more. Across eighteen tunes there’s enough classic Sam/Tilly guitar interplay to satisfy even the most vociferous Bug Club club member and firmly refute the band’s own claim that they are only “just about technically proficient on our instruments.” “Full Range of Motion” has a choppy rhythm that sits atop drummer Tom’s tight beat and serves to remind us all of Minutemen, for a minute. “Make It Count” brings sweet melody and call and response, while “All My Clothes Fell Off” allows for a slower paced ballad that builds to a crescendo that would not be out of place in the world of classic rock. “Cut to Black” combines a Sparks-esque falsetto and Tilly’s melodic bass playing with a rhythm something close-ish to what Klaus Dinger used to do for Neu! And closer “My Uncle Warren Drives a Passat” sees them doing a bit of a left turn and swapping out guitars for keys. This record’s an exercise in efficient maximalism - the musical equivalent of your dad packing the car for a holiday. Bring what you like; space is tight but they’ll get it in there somehow.
On to the words, because with these guys those are important. While Very Human Features did an excellent job of pointing at everyday things and highlighting their absurdity, on Every Single MuscleThe Bug Club look more closely at themselves. Not so much in an introspective way, though. More in a way an alien might probe a captive specimen on an intergalactic gurney. Horror movies get their “body” subgenre, now garage rock albums get theirs too. Self-interested in an entirely new sense of the term, the human form and condition is prodded and inspected from every angle throughout the course of the album. “Look Like Me” sees them singing about their own appearance, while on “How Can We Be Friends” they are preoccupied with others’. “Every Single Muscle” itemises organs as if they belong on a shopping list, and both “Make It Count” and “Pretty as a Magazine” bemoan the fact people don’t know what to do with their own bodies. Altogether, we get a sense of surreal detachment from the self that sets up the ever-present ennui-laden humour; the last song sees Sam announce he’s “bored of being human.” The Bug Club seem almost suspicious of the concept of being a person - as if they’ve woken up in a costume they didn’t want to put on and cannot take off.
Initially comprising the songwriting core of Sam Willmett (vocals/guitar) and Tilly Harris (vocals/bass) with Dan Matthew (drums), The Bug Club started plying their trade in 2016. They were signed by UK label Bingo Records in Autumn 2020 and first single “We Don’t Need Room for Lovin” was released in February 2021, followed by EP Launching Moondream One. It quickly established The Bug Club as the tongue-in-cheek and live-focused antidote to the previous year’s penned-in pandemic drudgery. BBC 6 Music’s Marc Riley was an early champion.
Pure Particles followed, whose vinyl release included a board game brimming with cult references. Fed up with the conventional approach they then released “Intelectuals”: a standalone track that was actually a five-track “song suite” like some kind of streaming-model-snubbing, Telecaster-bashing answer to Bach. Highbrow musos took a lyrical beating for the ages. Second standalone release “Two Beauties” marked release number two for 2022 and built up to the appearance of debut album Green Dream in F# by October. The following January they decided to pull their fingers out, get some disguises and support themselves on tour as Mr Anyway’s Holey Spirits. A live album documented this, then they got abstract with titles and put out the picture disc Picture This! By the autumn of 2023 it was time for forty-seven track, poetry-infused double album Rare Birds: Hour of Song.
During a trip to America they caught the eye of Sub Pop, just in time to get them on board to serve up a beefy slab of garage-punk on On the Inner Workings of the System, gaining an appropriately beefed-up stateside following in the process. The partnership proved fruitful, and with Sup Pop firmly in The Bug Club club they got cracking on Very Human Features. Is three the magic number? Probably not. But Every Single Muscle - number three for The Bug Club and Sub Pop - certainly comes close enough to convince your average strange human person that it might be

In the technical sense, every previous album by the radiant and heavy French trio SLIFT has been a fantasia—a composite of genres and forms that allowed the band to improvise, to jam on themes until they seemed to spiral together into space. Their acclaimed third album, 2024’s Ilion, was a sci-fi story built with 10- to 13-minute exploratory escapades, often starting with doom metal or stoner rock before spinning freely into glorious instrumental oblivion. But, in a bit of intentional irony, SLIFT’s fourth album is actually called Fantasia. It’s their leanest and most direct record to date; taken together, its eight songs clock in at less than 50 minutes. It is also their most riveting album yet, a pointed saga about overcoming international upheaval delivered by a band bearing down, not wasting a single second in the process.
They wanted to write and render songs that recognized the turmoil of these days and to sing of a more hopeful vision, of a time when a reckoning arrives. SLIFT didn’t want to lose the message by playing too much. To wit, the longest song on Fantasia is the opening title track, a nine-minute preamble in which Jean Fossat screams of his desires for the world: rising above our pain, burying our dread, and finding, individually and collectively, “a fire for your soul.” The songs that follow aren’t lacking the complexity or intensity that have made SLIFT a rising, radical star in heavy music; it’s simply that they’ve found new ways to weave the complexities of their past inside every piece, like a tapestry that reveals a new layer every time you look. In doing so, they offer an affirming and urgent message: Together, we can still change the times in which we live.
Though only Jean and bassist Rémi Fossat are related, SLIFT is essentially a band of brothers. They’ve been friends with drummer Canek Flores since high school, and 2026 marks a decade together in this trio. They rehearse with religious regularity in a basement in the countryside near Toulouse, inside the jam room where they’ve long indulged their propensity for longform wonder. But they built the songs of Fantasia differently. Jean started many of the songs by himself, then quickly brought them to basement rehearsals with a clear and concise idea of how he imagined them taking shape. At first, SLIFT struggled to keep the songs tight, old habits making them wonder if this song or that one shouldn’t break the double-digit threshold. By the time they crossed France’s northern border into Belgium to record in the enormous live room at Daft Studios, though, the songs were lean, agile, and punchy. They made most of them in a single take.
As Jean Fossat wrote the core of Fantasia, he thought a lot about Jorge Luis Borges, the Argentinian author whose fiction deftly wove elements of magic and surreality into places and plots that almost felt real. He wanted to accomplish the same thing, to add supernatural touches to his contemplations of politics so that the listener might see reality differently, might question what they were missing about this plane. SLIFT even borrowed the song title “Orbis Tertius” from a 1940 Borges short story that uses the idea of subjective idealism—that is, believing the world only exists as far as our minds go—to ask questions of memory, history, possibility, and, ultimately, control. Fantasia, then, is an imagined town plagued by a sense of unknowing and xenophobia, of trying to eliminate anything that disrupts the accepted order.
The town first comes into focus on “Corrupted Sky,” where lurid keyboards and a relentless rhythm section illustrate a city of power-hungry wastrels. Jean’s guitar solo feels like an exhilarating chase sequence in a video game, as he tries to dodge doom while arriving in Fantasia. They treat the newcomer like poison incarnate during the prog gem “The Village,” while he predicts their downfall during “A Storm of Wings.” In a mighty, fists-up anthem that suggests Clutch getting wild, SLIFT alludes to John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, and Soviet writer Mikhail Bulgakov to portend the arrival of some great liberating force, some redemptive truth.
That slowly starts to emerge during the record’s back half, as memory returns to the masses, as people start to remember that they are more than the oppressive uniformity of their society. “Waiting Man”—a psychedelic ballad that suggests Pink Floyd wandering into the Master of Reality sessions—is the breaking point. The narrator realizes that the world he’s committed to is a lie. “I waited for love, waited my time,” Jean Fossat sings, his voice more vulnerable than it’s ever been. “Waited the seasons of my life.” He knows he must find his own way out of this mess and into something better, so long as it’s not too late.
It is dreadfully easy these days to feel powerless. We have instant access to a world of news, and so much of it is so very heavy. SLIFT reckons directly with the modern onslaught of cruelty and absurdity on Fantasia, whether that’s not caring about our home planet or one another. But these eight songs are about trusting in some hidden power for fighting back, for believing in a world where something we cannot yet articulate or define offers not just a way to disrupt the status quo but perhaps to destroy it completely. SLIFT is loud, heavy, and aggressive inside these anthems. They’re preparing for a battle they think we can still win.

De zomer is in aantocht, dus het festivalseizoen komt dichterbij. Musiczine staat dus te popelen van ongeduld om de vele bands te ontdekken die Graspop op hun affiche heeft geplaatst. Met nog 49 dagen op de teller werden alvast de laatste namen gedropt, en spijtig genoeg ook enkele annuleringen aangekondigd. Tx2 verruilt van dag en switcht van zondag naar vrijdag.
Hieronder enkele bands met gevarieerde stijl, waarvan ik denk dat deze live voor de verwondering kunnen zorgen.
dag 1 - donderdag 18 juni 2026
We trappen af met een portie punkrock om zachtjes in de sfeer te komen. Pennywise keert na 10 jaar terug richting Dessel dus maak je maar klaar om mee te springen op de tonen van ‘Bro Hymn Tribute’ en elkaar een stevig duwtje te geven. Meestal te zien in de kleiner zalen, dit jaar mogen ze brokken maken op de Jupiler Stage.
Eind vorig jaar speelden ze een lekkere show in de AB, en deze Death metal band uit de Verenigde Staten met een leuke Stockholm gebaseerde flow groeit jaarlijks naar een beter niveau. Hoog tijd dus om op een groot venue zieltjes te winnen en zelf te ontdekken hoe leuk Gatecreeper wel kan zijn! Het is wel al een 3-tal jaar geleden dat nieuw materiaal werd geschreven. Voor de eerste keer op Graspop, hun zenuwen zullen al wat opspelen denk ik.
Anthrax zal ongetwijfeld de Marquee mogen afsluiten, en wij zijn daar heel blij mee. Ondertussen ook al 6 jaar geleden dat ze op de affiche prijkten, dus het zal een blij weerzien zijn met Scott Ian, Joey Belladonna, Frank Bello en Charlie Benante. Hun laatste album ‘For All Kings’ dateert al van 2016, maar iedereen weet dat de oude nummers tijdloze klassiekers zijn. Klaar om gevangen te worden in de moshpit?!
Vorige jaar nog in Kortrijk een vet feestje gebouwd, en een leuke verademing om het saaie Dimmu Borgir achter mij te laten. Static-X is niet verlegen om de boel in de fik te zetten en het dak eraf te blazen. Industrial metal die maar een vonkje nodig heeft om een ganse tent mee te laten swingen en lachen … Een aanrader voor de meesten, saaie mensen zullen helaas uit de tent gezet worden.
Dave Mustaine is bezig om Megadeth op waardige manier vaarwel te laten zeggen. Terecht dus dat hij op het hoofdpodium zal vertoeven om zijn Thrash metal voor een laatste keer te laten schijnen op Graspop. De muziek van deze man is onmisbaar in de metal scene, dus ik verwacht veel volk om deze icoon uit te wuiven. De Belgische drummer Dirk Verbeuren zal een thuismatch spelen, en ik zou suggereren dat ze hun laatste album aan de kant schuiven, want deze was een tegenvaller. Neen, maak maar een old school set die later tot één van de betere herinneringen zal behoren. Megadeth, bedankt voor de mooie tijd!!
The Offspring deed in 2022 een ganse weide opspringen met hun enthousiasme, en dit jaar zal ongetwijfeld niet anders zijn. Een nostalgische trip naar mijn jeugdjaren, ik weet nu al dat mijn stem schor zal zijn na het meebrullen…en dit op de 1e festivaldag. ‘Come out and play’ is hun motto, en ik maak er graag deel van uit. Tot dan manjes!
dag 2 - vrijdag 19 juni 2026
Een portie hardcore gaat er altijd in, en het Engelse Guilt Trip kreeg een plekje op de affiche op het gezellige podium van de Jupiler Stage. Niet de eerste keer dat ze ons land aandoen, want vorig jaar stonden ze nog in de Trix, in Kortrijk en mochten ze zelfs proberen in Pukkelpop om de boel aan te wakkeren. Een meer dan deftige band, kom dat zien.
En we doen verder met nog een beetje hardcore. Drain mag ook hun doop doen op Graspop en hun muziek klink aanstekelijk. Het zal leuk vertoeven zijn op het kleinste podium.
Tijd voor het hardere genre en een leuke terugkomst voor Possessed. Ondertussen alweer geleden van 2019 dat de lofzangen voor Satan werden verkondigd door hen. Jeff Becerra blijft de eeuwige optimist en albums ‘Seven Churches’ ven ‘Beyond the Gates’ blijven toch pareltjes in deze scene. Maak je maar klaar om de duivel hoorns in de lucht te steken en mee te headbangen op deze klassiekers.
Ik moest toch efkes slikken om te lezen dat Old Man’s Child nog nooit de revue heeft gepasseerd op Graspop. Nochtans al actief sinds 1993 en een topband in hun genre. Black metal met diepe thema’s die in de onderwereld aanprezen worden. Ik ben wel benieuwd welke muzikanten leider Galder zal meebrengen. Geen albums meer gemaakt sinds 2009, maar zoals aangegeven top in dit genre. Niet te missen dus. Vergeet jullie corpse paint niet!!
Cradle of Filth is de laatste jaren weer heel actief, met spijtig genoeg opnieuw de onnodige bandperikelen en vetes die Dani Filth met zich meebrengt. Hun laatste creatie ‘The Screaming of the Valkyries’ werd goed ontvangen en ik herinner mij nog toen ze de tent plat speelden in 2023. Hopelijk een show van hetzelfde niveau, maar daar twijfel ik geen seconde aan.
Ze werden destijds de nieuwe Metallica genoemd, maar Trivium heeft deze status nooit kunnen invullen. Geleden van 2019 dat ze nog eens in Dessel vertoefden, maar begin 2025 konden ze nog de Lotto Arena vullen. De mix van metalcore, thrash en heavy metal begon als een sprookje maar kwijnde later toch wat weg. Ik ga het nog eens een kans geven denk ik…
De punkband van uitstek, jawel, the Sex Pistols komen ook afgezakt in juni naar de weide en ze brengen ook Frank Carter mee. Ik kan niet beloven of dit een voltreffer gaat worden, maar deze band heeft geen introductie nodig. Wreed benieuwd hoe dit live nog zal klinken.
De gebroeders Cavalera mogen niet ontbreken op een metal- en rock festival, en als surprise spelen ze de topplaat ‘Chaos AD’ van hun machtige periode in Sepultura in zijn geheel. Wie wordt daar niet blij van?! Max Cavalera is de laatste jaren in opperste doen en als ze dan ook nog deze plaat integraal spelen, dan verwacht ik een massa volk vooraan het podium. Zeker doen!
dag 3 - zaterdag 20 juni 2026
Fans van Djent muziek mogen opgelucht ademhalen, want ook voor dit genre is een band opgebouwd. Geleden van 2018 dat ze op de affiche stonden, dus Tesseract komt nog eens goeiendag zeggen. Niet voor iedereen weggelegd, maar de fans springen ongetwijfeld een gat in de lucht.
Heavy metal dan maar, en met Vicious Rumors en Primal Fear komen twee toppertjes de hoge noten uit de boxen knallen. De ene band al wat ouder dan de andere, maar de laatste heeft volgens mij toch net dat tikkeltje meer préséance. Wel raar dat ze een plekje krijgen op de Jupiler Stage…ik vrees dat het wat druk zal worden.
Vorig jaar nog adembenemend op Alcatraz Festival en in 2026 mogen ze dit herhalen in de Marquee. Terrorizer spuwt vuur en energie af en dat zal je geweten hebben. Deze combo van Death en Grindcore is om van te smullen en hun bekendste album ‘World Downfall’ is van hoogstaand niveau. Smeer maar jullie kuiten in want dit is een pletwals. Fans van deze stijl mogen dit niet missen want anders moeten jullie zich schamen!
Chris Barnes is een man met een eigen mening, maar vooral bekend van zijn werk destijds met Cannibal Corpse. Zijn huidige band Six Feet Under teert op zijn unieke grommende stem, maar moet toch onderdoen voor zijn eerste liefde. In april komt hun nieuw album ‘Next to Die’ uit, dus dit album zal uitvoerig gepromoot worden. Ik weet niet wat dit live zal geven, maar Death metal laat ik niet rap links liggen.
Uada uit de Verenigde Staten is te vinden in de melodische Black metal stijl en komt in mei met een nieuw album getiteld ‘Interwoven’ op de proppen. Ikzelf heb deze band nog nooit gezien, maar de muziek heb ik wel al ervaren en is van uitstekende kwaliteit. De duisternis zal neerdalen en wij zullen de venijnige Goden helpen aanmoedigen. Voor de eerste keer op Graspop alvast.
Ik dacht dat Sepultura in 2023 bezig was met een afscheidstoer, maar toch prijken ze in 2026 op de affiche…raar maar waar haha. Soit, niet dezelfde uitstraling meer als in de beginperiode met een andere line-up, maar qua muziek welgekend in de scene. Afwachten of ze mij live kunnen overtuigen.
dag 4 - zondag 21 juni 2026
Uit Frankrijk komt Carpenter Brut hun stijl van Darksynth (what’s in a name) aan de man brengen…sla mij dood, want ik weet niet wat ik hiervan moet verwachten. Onbekend is onbemind, dus misschien sla ik eens hun richting om het te ontdekken.
Nog een andere vreemde eend in de bijt…Warbringer brengt zogezegd punk, maar als ik hun muziek beluister hoor ik toch een ietwat andere stijl. Zou niet misstaan op een dance festival, dus of dit duo de aanwezigen zal aanspreken is toch een groot vraagteken. Soit…kan misschien toch een verrassing zijn voor sommigen.
En ik verslikte mij opnieuw in mijn koffie, want Venom staat ook aangeduid als band die voor de eerste keer op Graspop staat…dit kan toch niet?!! Ze brengen hulde aan hun carrière en dan vooral het 45 jarige jubilee van ‘Welcome to Hell’. Dit zal dus een unieke show worden, want de originele leden Jeff ‘Mantas’ Dunn en Tony ‘Abaddon’ Bray komen deze eenmalige set presenteren. En de Marquee is hiervoor de perfecte setting! Zou toch bovenaan je must-see lijstje moeten staan deze zondag.
Het Duitse Kanonenfieber is een band die stilletjes naar de top kruipt met hun mix van melodische black/death metal. Aanstekelijk is het alvast, nu nog live bevestigen en ik ben mee in het verhaal. Een prille band, want nog maar actief sinds 2020 met 2 albums op hun conto. Het perfecte moment om je Duits dus bij te schaven hehe.
Op de North stage krijgen de oudjes het voor het zeggen, want Alice Cooper, Def Leppard, Europe en Foreigner mogen hun rock verkondigen. Je weet wat te verwachten bij deze bands, maar altijd leuk om deze oude knarren aan het werk te zien en mee te zingen met hun klassiekers. Zoals Meneer Cooper zou zeggen: I’m eighteen, laat de flashbacks maar komen.
De South stage heeft voor mij minder om het lijf, enkel Life of Agony kan mij bekoren spijtig genoeg. Ik duim ervoor dat ze enkel nummers van ‘River Runs Red’ spelen, maar dat zal een utopie blijken spijtig genoeg.
En nu rest er ons nog maar 1 ding…AFTELLEN!!

Ancienne Belgique, Poppunt, Clubcircuit vzw, Formaat en de Brusselse Jeugdhuizen, Cactus Muziekcentrum, Het Depot, Muziekodroom, muziekclub N9, Trix, De Casino, Democrazy, De Zwerver, Het Entrepot, Nosta, Wilde Westen en 4AD presenteren Sound Track, een live- en kansenparcours voor artiesten met talent en ambitie. Met Sound Track gaan spelers uit de Vlaamse en Brusselse muzieksector samen op zoek naar de sound van hun regio.
Sound Track is een laagdrempelige manier om het talent uit de regio’s naar boven te stuwen. Een nieuwe generatie kan zich aanmelden via VI.BE platform.

BRDCAST april
BRDCST is terug van weggeweest. AB’s meest avontuurlijke en genrefluïde festival geeft in april een podium aan het spannendste wat avant-garde pop, futuristische hiphop, Afrikaanse black metal, electronica, jazz en improvisatie te bieden heeft.
Met om en bij de 50 namen oogt het programma van BRDCST 2026 overweldigend. Van vrijdag 3 tot en met maandag 6 April verwelkomt BRDCST jullie in AB, cinema Palace en de kunstgallerij VanhaerentsArtCollection. Lawijtstrijd - Lawijtstrijd - Muziekconcours Waasland
LAWIJSTRIJD, het legendarische muziekconcours van het Waasland is terug in een samenwerkingsverband van De Casino Concertzaal, Lokerse Feesten, Crammerock en jeugdhuizen Den Eglantier (De Nest), De Cramme en Okapi. De wedstrijd wordt ondersteund door Cultuurtuin Waas (Interwaas) en de stads- en gemeentebesturen van Lokeren, Sint- Niklaas en Stekene. (zie info site )
AFTRAP: Drie spots worden vrijgehouden voor jonge talenten uit de buurt die hun kans willen wagen om op één van onze podia te spelen die dag. Zij ontvangen naast podiumervaring en eeuwige roem ook catering en drankbonnen voor een dolle avond. Concreet zijn we op zoek naar allround dj’s, maar ook dj’s en live acts uit de hardere en experimentele elektronische genres zijn welkom met hun inzendingen.
De Tijdloze: Tijd voor 90: De Tijdloze en De Casino slaan jaarlijks de handen in elkaar om het muziekrepertoire van de gouden jaren negentig te vieren. Ontstaan als eindejaarslijst op Studio Brussel en na 35 jaar uitgegroeid tot een muzikaal begrip, vervelde De Tijdloze (100) in 2018 tot een onafhankelijk online radiokanaal (VRT MAX / DAB+) waar onder meer Stijn Van De Voorde (For Those About To Rock) en Roos Van Acker (Jouw Tijdloze Ochtenradio) de pop- en rockgeschiedenis alle eer aandoen. Liefhebbers van nostalgische hits kunnen sindsdien afstemmen op deze volwassen geworden digitale stream om er vierentwintig uur per dag, zeven dagen per week de beste klassiekers te beluisteren.
GREAT GIGS IN THE PARK Tien extraordinaire concertavonden De Casino Concertzaal en het stadsbestuur Sint-Niklaas presenteren een derde editie van Great Gigs in the Park. Deze reeks openluchtconcerten, die plaatsvinden in de feeërieke setting van het historische Casino Park (DC terras), wordt dit jaar gespreid over drie weken (van woensdag 14 juni tot donderdag 6 juli) en bundelt in die periode tien extraordinaire openluchtshows op de Casino[1]kiosk. Gezelligheid is het codewoord tijdens Great Gigs in the Park, want voor elk concertavonden worden slechts 600 tickets aangeboden. Programma De line-up van Great Gigs in the Park biedt een staalkaart van waar de Casino voor staat, zijnde een veelheid aan uiteenlopende muziekgenres: van hardrock en post-metal over elektrofunk en groove tot roots en droompop. De Casino presenteert ook elke concertavond een uitgekiende support-act: laureaten van Lawijtstrijd, speerpunten uit de Brusselse elektrojazz-hype, punk-calamiteiten, een crossover tussen doom en oriëntal, maar ook western swing-adepten en singer-songwriters.

Ziggy Marley, a nine-time Grammy Award winner, released his new album "Brightside" exclusively on physical formats on 18 April, especially for Record Store Day. Today, the album is also being released digitally via Tuff Gong/V2. It includes the singles 'Racism Is A Killa' and 'Many Mourn For Bob', a powerful tribute to the legacy of his father, the legendary Bob Marley.
Marley created "Brightside", his ninth solo album, through a creative process that was completely different from anything he has done before, both in terms of songwriting and from a studio technical perspective. The album was recorded at 432 Hz, a soothing sound frequency often used for meditation and other mindfulness exercises. It gives the mix a warm, soulful depth, which underscores the album's healing intent.
'Many Mourn For Bob' is the first single from the album and the first track in his career that Ziggy has written and recorded specifically for his father. The powerful track, rich in sentiment and deeply personal, emerged during his experience producing the fan-favourite biographical film "Bob Marley: One Love" from 2024. Through that period of reflection, Marley gained a new perspective on their personal, enduring bond and his father's lasting global impact.
Ziggy says: "Many Mourn For Bob' is a reflection on my father from the deepest parts of my heart and subconscious mind born from rediscovering him with new eyes.

Wie aflevering 6 van de populaire serie Knokke Off bekijkt, wordt in de openingsscène meteen geconfronteerd met een beklijvend nummer dat de emotionele beelden extra diepgang geeft: What Takes You Back, de debuutsingle van de Brusselse singer-songwriter Zachary Bloemperk! Het nummer drijft op een spaarzame en breekbare gitaarmelodie die alle ruimte laat voor nuance, stilte en emotie en Zachary's indruwekkende stem laat schitteren.
Fans van Jeff Buckley, José González of RY X zullen zich meteen herkennen in deze uitgepuurde, emotioneel geladen sound.
Bloemperk is klinisch psycholoog van opleiding, en die achtergrond sijpelt subtiel maar onmiskenbaar door in zijn muziek. Zijn fascinatie voor menselijke gedachten en innerlijke spanningen vertaalt zich in teksten die balanceren tussen reflectie en verwarring. Dat klinkt door in regels als "There's always one foot in the past, the other unknown" en het indringende refrein "I'm caught on this train of thought" — een innerlijke monoloog waarin controle en twijfel voortdurend in elkaar overvloeien.
Muziek maakt al deel uit van Zachary's leven sinds zijn jeugd: hij begon gitaar te spelen rond zijn negende en schreef op zijn twaalfde al zijn eerste songs. Hij haalt inspiratie uit de verstilde, atmosferische composities van Ólafur Arnalds, maar ook uit de expressieve songwriting van Rufus Wainwright of de emotioneel geladen songs van Dalles Green (City & Colour) en de rijke traditie van het Franse chanson. Op een uitstapje in Humo's Rock Rally na (hij haalde in 2024 de halve finale) bleef Zachary in de luwte aan zijn songs werken. Tot een demo plots bij de makers van Knokke Off belande...
Met What Takes You Back zet Zachary Bloemperk een eerste, overtuigende stap: een debuut dat even zorgvuldig opgebouwd als emotioneel raak is. Een veelbelovend begin voor een artiest die erin slaagt om complexe innerlijke werelden te vertalen naar heldere, intieme en beklijvende songs.
