Nieuwe concertzaal Kursaal Oostende opent deuren in januari 2027 en lanceert nu al vernieuwde website.De werken aan de concertzaal van Kursaal Oostende verlopen volgens plan en timing. De heropening van de vernieuwde concertzaal is voorzien in januari 2027. In aanloop daarnaartoe lanceert Kursaal Oostende vandaag een volledig nieuwe branding en nieuwe website en geeft meteen enkele kleppers prijs die in de nieuwe concertzaal te zien zullen zijn in 2027. Die zullen de komende weken allemaal te ontdekken vallen op de nieuwe website.
De concertzaal van Kursaal Oostende wordt momenteel grondig vernieuwd en klaar-gestoomd voor een nieuw hoofdstuk. De werken verlopen volgens planning en worden afgerond in oktober 2026. Daarna volgt een intensieve test- en inregelperiode, met als hoogtepunt de heropening in januari 2027.
Met de renovatie komt ook een duidelijke nieuwe visie. Onder de slogan “The power of live” zet Kursaal Oostende opnieuw volop in op de essentie van live beleving. Samen een moment delen, emoties voelen en volledig opgaan in het hier en nu. Die visie vertaalt zich in een vernieuwd publieksconcept, een flexibele zaalopstelling én een frisse nieuwe branding.
Intussen is ook de nieuwe website live. Daar ontdek je de eerste artiesten en producties die in 2027 in de vernieuwde concertzaal te zien zullen zijn. De komende maanden wordt het programma stap voor stap verder aangevuld, met regelmatig nieuwe aankondigingen.

Each track on this album tells a true story and showcases the skill, energy, and maturity of Belgian saxophonist and composer Simon Comte and his musicians. It also reflects the young prodigy's immersion in New York, where he is at the very heart of jazz history and modernity.

Born in 2005, Simon Comte has had an incredible career: he is the youngest student ever admitted to the Brussels Conservatory's jazz program, and since 2023 he has been studying at the Manhattan School of Music in New York, where he received a merit scholarship.

His musical identity bridges the gap between the Old and New Worlds, and this resonates on both sides of the Atlantic, as evidenced by numerous awards, including four DownBeat Student Awards. He has been invited as a soloist by the prestigious WDR Big Band in Cologne and tours regularly in Europe as a sideman, as well as with his Belgian quartet.

Simon has been composing for a long time, and it is with his American colleagues that he chose to capture his music on record for the first time!

For his highly anticipated debut EP, Chameleon Eyes, which is set to be released on November 6 via Flak Records, Simon has teamed up with his friends from the Manhattan School: Brahm Sasner (piano), Chet Carlson (double bass), and Kabelo Mokhatla (drums). They recorded in New York at Sear Sound Studio with legendary sound engineer James Farber.

The Simon Comte Quartet will be touring Europe in January 2027, with stops in Brussels, Paris, London, Liège, and Antwerp... with more news to come.

Simon Comte : biography
Born in Belgium in 2005 into a family of musicians, Simon Comte grew up immersed in a rich and eclectic artistic environment. Fascinated by the emotional power and infinite sonic range of the saxophone, he began his training at the age of seven. His teachers quickly recognized his artistic sensibility and precocious virtuosity, and encouraged him to perform on stage from a very young age.

At just 14 years old, Simon achieved a remarkable milestone by joining the class of French soloist and professor Vincent David at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. The following year, he was also admitted to the Conservatory's Jazz Department, becoming its youngest student ever.

In 2023, at age 18, a new chapter began when he was admitted to the prestigious Manhattan School of Music in New York to study under American saxophonist and educator Jaleel Shaw. He also took classes in the master class of renowned tenor saxophonist Nicole Glover. That same year, he won a scholarship awarded by the Belgian American Educational Foundation Inc. (BAEF).

His talent was further confirmed in competitions, including First Prize at the CeDel competition in Belgium in 2018; First Prize at the Paris Saxophone Competition in 2019; in 2022, he won the Leuven Jazz Contest with his European quartet; and then, in 2025, he received the American DownBeat Student Award for Best Group (trio).

Simon Comte has already performed on prestigious stages: Carnegie Hall (New York), the Getxo International Jazz Festival, the Gent Jazz Festival, the Brussels Jazz Festival, and Bozar (Brussels); Dizzy's Jazz Club (Jazz at Lincoln Center—New York); the National Jazz Museum in Harlem; Ladbroke Hall (London); the South Tyrol Jazz Festival; WDR Funkhaus (Cologne); ...

Throughout his young career, during concerts and jam sessions, he has had the opportunity to play alongside renowned musicians, including Gilad Hekselman, Jaleel Shaw, Ben Street, Joe Dyson, Kanoa Mendenhall, Nduduzo Makhathini, Hamilton de Holanda, the WDR Big Band, and many others…

In 2025, Simon Comte was invited as a soloist by the prestigious WDR Big Band of Cologne (winner of several Grammy Awards) to perform alongside German double bassist Nils Kugelmann. They performed several of his compositions, commissioned specifically for the occasion and arranged by Jakob Helling.

The year 2026 marked a major turning point: Simon won the prestigious 49th Downbeat Annual Student Music Awards in the Best Soloist category, and he was also hailed by this renowned American magazine as one of the jazz soloists of the future. Furthermore, he was named a young artist to watch by Joshua Redman himself during an interview at the Montreal International Jazz Festival in June. That same month, Simon entered the studio with his quartet to record his first EP, Chameleon Eyes, with the legendary engineer James Farber in New York!

Recognized as one of the most promising and captivating voices in contemporary jazz, Simon Comte is a true rising star who embodies a new generation of artists who are reinventing and carrying forward the language of jazz.

This international quartet features four of the most promising young musicians on the jazz scene: Simon Comte on saxophone, Brahm Sasner on piano, Chet Carlson on double bass, and Kabelo Mokhatla on drums. The quartet's members have performed on major stages around the world and have shared the stage with musicians such as Gilad Hekselman, Nduduzo Makhathini, Wynton Marsalis, and the WDR Big Band. Hailing from Belgium, the United States, and South Africa, respectively, they met in New York at the Manhattan School of Music under the guidance of Jaleel Shaw. While deeply rooted in the jazz tradition, the quartet draws inspiration from their respective cultures and backgrounds. In 2025, Simon, Chet, and Kabelo won the 48th Downbeat Student Music Award for "Best Ensemble of the Year" as a trio. The quartet is an explosive and unique blend: they offer jazz steeped in hues that are by turns impressionistic, post-bop, and pop—all shades reflected in the repertoire of 'Chameleon Eyes'.

Chet Carlson, born in Minnesota, has performed alongside Wynton Marsalis and Stokley Williams, among others, and has recorded and toured with William Hill III.

AGNÈS BOTTY KIEST VOOR BIJZONDERE PLEKKEN MET INTIEME ‘THE SECRET TOUR’

Geen klassieke clubtour, wel negen concerten op plekken waar je niet elke dag een artiest aan het werk ziet. Met The Secret Tour trekt Agnès Botty vanaf 24 september solo door België en Nederland. Van een tuin in Maastricht en een paviljoen in Spa tot de Grotten van Han, een péniche in Braine-le-Comte en een Antwerpse taproom. Bewust kleinschalig en dichtbij, als eerste kennismaking met een nieuw muzikaal verhaal dat op 19 februari 2027 uitmondt in het debuutalbum Some Stupid Love Songs.

Wie Agnès Botty nog niet kent, kan beginnen bij Mr. Beckett. De song beschrijft dat vreemde moment na een breuk waarop de wereld rondom je doodleuk verdergaat, terwijl voor jou iets fundamenteels is stilgevallen. Het nummer werd live opgenomen in Peter Gabriels Real World Studios in Engeland, samen met John Baggott, muzikant en producer die eerder werkte met onder meer Massive Attack, Portishead en Robert Plant. Akoestische gitaar, piano en stem krijgen er alle ruimte, zonder veel opsmuk.

Die spontaniteit vormt ook de rode draad door Some Stupid Love Songs. Het album werd opgenomen tussen Engeland, Barcelona en België en brengt muzikanten met heel verschillende achtergronden samen. Geen strak dichtgetimmerde producties, maar liedjes die mogen ademen en waarin kleine onvolmaaktheden net deel worden van het verhaal. Muzikaal beweegt Agnès Botty tussen atmosferische folk, songwriting en subtiele invloeden uit verschillende werelden.

Achter Agnès Botty schuilt Jérôme Magnée, bekend als frontman van Dan San en als muzikant en componist binnen tal van andere projecten. Voor dit nieuwe hoofdstuk koos hij de naam van zijn grootmoeder, de vrouw die hem als kind piano leerde spelen en zijn liefde voor muziek aanwakkerde.

Met The Secret Tour wordt dat nieuwe hoofdstuk nu voor het eerst echt op scène verteld. Geen groot decor en geen afstand, maar Agnès Botty alleen, met zijn songs, op negen zorgvuldig gekozen plekken. Soms letterlijk onder de grond, soms op het water, soms tussen de bomen of met een lokaal bier binnen handbereik

Een kleine tour dus. Maar wel eentje die nieuwsgierig maakt naar wat er op 19 februari 2027 volgt.

Van aambeien en aften tot zweetvoeten of een zwemmersoor*: totaal onschuldige aandoeningen die simulanten gretig adopteren om zich ziek te melden zodat ze weer eens een dag niet hoeven te werken (meestal op een regenachtige maandag). Elke kantoortuin, bouwplaats of fabriekshal heeft er wel één. Uiterst irritant voor de working class heroes die gewoon wél elke dag het forenzenleed stoïcijns ondergaan. Klein leed inderdaad, maar wel heel herkenbaar. Dus: een perfect onderwerp voor het Belgische metalfenomeen Fleddy Melculy om zich hier songtekstueel flink over op te winden. Waarvan akte in de nieuwe single 'Dokter, Dokter'; afkomstig van het nieuwe studioalbum ‘L’AVOCAT DU DIABLE’ (vertaald: de advocaat van de duivel), dat op vrijdag 30 oktober via Sony Music zal verschijnen. 'Dokter, Dokter' is part-two-gewijs de officieuze opvolger van de vorige single 'Doe Uw Werk', die de algehele toenemende maatschappelijke slackerij al aan de kaak stelde. Live is dit nummer nu al een ware meezingklassieker omdat het refrein zodanig is ontworpen dat alle collectieve frustraties vakkundig samen in harmonie kunnen worden uitgeschreeuwd.

Frontman Jeroen Camerlynck: "Ik heb er een woordenboek bijgepakt: ziektemelders, werkontduikers, profiteurs, spijbelaars, druktemijders, luilakken, ziekteveinzers of werkschuwen. Ofwel: die assholes op het werk die alfabetisch het ziektelexicon afschuimen opdat ze toch maar niet zouden moeten gaan werken. Ze slagen er dan ook elke keer in om een huisarts te vinden die doktersbriefjes uitdeelt alsof het flyers voor een of ander kutfeest zijn. Je kunt er de klok ook op gelijk zetten: vaak na het weekend, na een nationale feestdag of als het in de herfst 's morgens om 6.00 uur regent dat het zeikt. Heel irritant."

Fleddy Melculy is zelf juist een van de hardst werkende ‘heavy’-bands van de Benelux. Na de lancering van de hit ‘T-shirt van Metallica’ in januari 2016 - die als Fleddy’s eigen Big Bang fungeerde - groeide de band in rap tempo uit tot een van de meest succesvolle metalgroepen van de Benelux ooit. Fleddy Melculy is inmiddels een gevestigde waarde, mede dankzij vier uitstekend verkochte studioalbums (waarvan er twee op nummer 1 in de Belgische albumlijst Ultratop binnenkwamen en twee op nummer 2) en ruim 350 shows in de Benelux.

Fleddy Melculy was afgelopen jaar onder meer te zien op Graspop Metal Meeting, Zwarte Cross en Crammerock. In het najaar van 2026 en voorjaar 2027 volgt een nieuwe tournee door Nederland en België

ALBUM 'L’AVOCAT DU DIABLE'
‘L’AVOCAT DU DIABLE’ (vertaald: de advocaat van de duivel) is de titel van het nieuwe studioalbum van Fleddy Melculy, waarop een aantal verrassende gastmuzikanten meedoet waaronder stand-up comedian Alex Agnew en muzikant-zanger Marco Roelofs (Heideroosjes).

Op deze vijfde langspeler – de opvolger van ‘ANTICHLIST’ (uit 2023) en wellicht de hardste tot nu toe – neemt Fleddy Melculy opnieuw geen blad voor de mond. Enthousiaster dan ooit worden heilige huisjes vakkundig gesloopt. Ditmaal moeten onder meer tributebands, Oasis, wielertoeristen en werkontduikers eraan geloven. Wederom wordt niets of niemand ontzien in de messcherpe teksten, die naar alle verwachting opnieuw voor de nodige ophef zullen zorgen. Niet voor niets schreef de band het nummer ‘Stop Met Zagen’, met een bloedserieuze ondertoon: Fleddy is het nu écht beu dat iedereen overal en altijd over klaagt. Advocaat van de duivel, inderdaad...

Fleddy Melculy grossiert in satire. Het vijftal observeert de wereld met een frisse en kritische punkrockblik en legt middels een flinke dosis sarcastische humor zowel groot als klein dagelijks leed bloot, en schuwt daarbij zelfspot en relativering niet. Jeroen: "Ook onze nieuwe plaat fungeert weer als een voorhamer die de nimmer eindigende reeks dagelijkse ergernissen sloopt – hoe onnozel het onderwerp soms ook mag lijken. De luisteraar zit gniffelend met een smile op zijn bakkes. Tot het besef indaalt dat waar Fleddy allemaal over zingt, hem eigenlijk ook mateloos stoort. Fleddy Melculy is L’AVOCAT DU DIABLE. FLEDDY MELCULY BIO
Dit jaar viert Fleddy Melculy zijn tienjarig jubileum. Sinds de oprichting in 2016 bracht de band vier studioalbums uit, waaronder het goud gecertificeerde debuut ‘Helgië’. Dat album verscheen in januari van dit jaar opnieuw als ‘Helgië REDUX’: volledig geremixt en geremasterd, met vernieuwd artwork en twee bonustracks. Daarnaast staan er twee EP’s en drie liveplaten op de teller; honderden shows in België, Nederland en Frankrijk; een online buzz van formaat; en het meermaals georganiseerde eigen festival 'Fleddypalooza'.
Frontman Jeroen: “En dan zijn er nog die bucketlistvinkjes en ambitieuze doelen waarvan we ons stilaan afvragen wat we nog moeten bewijzen – aan het publiek, maar vooral aan onszelf. Het antwoord is simpel: er is nog genoeg serieuze en banale shit om ons druk over te maken. Er harde stampende songs van maken, ze overgieten met die typische Pajotse humor, op plaat knallen en vervolgens podia slopen: dat is hoe wij het ventileren.”
Daarbovenop volgde een zegetocht langs grote zomerfestivals, waaronder Pinkpop, (meermaals) Graspop Metal Meeting, Zwarte Cross en Alcatraz Metal Festival; Werchter Classic, Parklife, Pukkelpop, Jera On Air, Groezrock, Paaspop, Rock Zottegem, Crammerock en talloze andere. Op vrijdag 30 oktober staat de wereldvermaarde jazzbassist en componist Avishai Cohen met zijn trio in de Stadsschouwburg in Antwerpen. Tijdens dit concert stelt hij zijn nieuwste album, Eternal Child, voor aan het Belgische publiek.

"For once," Avishai confides, “the album title isn't one of my own compositions”. That title, Eternal Child, was penned by the legendary Chick Corea – a figure who remains one of the most decisive, life-altering encounters of Avishai’s career. To him, the name carries a profound, soulful weight.
“Remaining an eternal child is the lot of many artists” he says. “Those are the lucky ones."
The choice became undeniable the moment he saw a photograph of himself at age four or fivethe same image that now graces the album cover. The gaze is unmistakable; fifty years later, that same spark burns just as bright. "What I notice in that photo is the sense of wonder in my eyes. I was a daydreamer. I loved nature.
I remain fascinated by it, by music, and by everything magical. And in those child’s eyes, I can already see a zest for life, play and a hunger for curiosity."

Danielle Ponder, the Rochester-born, Atlanta-rooted singer-songwriter with one of the most commanding voices in music, announces her second album, Everything Has Changed, out 9th October via Dead Oceans — her label debut, released in partnership with Phoebe Bridgers.

Ponder also shares the lead single, "Sun and Moon," an irresistible declaration on the exhausting cycle of a love that only shows up when you're already walking away. Produced by Grammy Award winner Mike Elizondo alongside Barney Lister, the song pairs Ponder's towering vocals with a groove that belies its weight: how much of ourselves we surrender to people who mistake pursuit for love. "You ain't no catcher, you just want to chase me," she sings, turning heartbreak into personal redemption.

“I love that this song is upbeat but the lyrics are quite sad. The sun and moon provide a beautiful symbol of two lovers who spend a life chasing each other but never quite coming together. The drums and tempo of the song remind me of the push and pull chase that I've been in more than I'd like to admit. It’s not until the end where the drums stop that she realizes how exhausted she is with the game and longs for something deeper.”

Everything Has Changed marks Ponder's most self-assured work to date. Across its 14 tracks — executive produced by Grammy Award winning producer Mike Elizondo and Barney Lister — she leans into the contemplative meaning of her last name, letting every part of herself reveal itself in the music. Where lead single "Power," born from a trip Ponder took to Dakar, Senegal at 17, looks outward as a celebration of Black resilience and diaspora, "Sun and Moon" turns inward. "There's a lot of calling out on this album more than I typically would do," Ponder explains, "and it's because I am at the end of the game of centering men and feeling like they're saviors whose validation will make me finally worthy."

Ponder spent years as an attorney focused on criminal justice reform, a path shaped by her brother's sentencing to 20 years to life when she was 16. She didn't seriously imagine music as more than a side pursuit until her late 30s, leaving law behind in 2021, at 39, to pursue her artistry full time. "The lawyer is going to kill me," she says, "but the artist is going to save me." "I used to not want to talk about my age," she adds. "But honestly, I have a story to tell that comes from the years of experience I've had."

If Some of Us Are Brave documented Ponder's arrival, Everything Has Changed documents her evolution: an artist no longer chasing perfection, but inhabiting the life she's built. "I have arrived," she says. "I'm really trying to enjoy this privilege of being a Black woman who gets to sing on earth."

Danielle Ponder is done waiting for a future version of herself to arrive. Music was always a constant presence throughout her life, but practicality initially took over in adulthood. While performing with her family’s band and later developing her own projects, Ponder pursued a legal career focused on criminal justice reform. Sinds hun ontstaan in 2006 heeft Cage The Elephant zich langzaam opgewerkt tot een van de beste rockbands van hun generatie. Loreen is al jaren een vaste waarde in de internationale popscene, maar blijft zichzelf constant heruitvinden. Hoewel ze in 2004 al opviel in de Zweedse zangwedstrijd 'Pop Idol', kwam de echte wereldwijde explosie er in 2012 toen ze het Eurovisiesongfestival won met de monsterhit "Euphoria".
