The Besnard Lakes return with their seventh album The Besnard Lakes Are the Ghost Nation. In doing so confirming their status as one of the most peerlessly consistent bands over the 20 years plus of their existence - with a purity of vision and level of quality that is hard to rival in modern music.
“I feel like it's a very formidable title, symbolic of the times,” says co-singer Jace Lasek. “It's talking about the death of nations, the threat of Canada being the 51st state. There is the desire to be left alone, to let community be community, all of those things that feel like they might be under siege; that's what the ghost nation is.”
The band confirms this was partly in response to their last album, 2021’s The Besnard Lakes Are the Last of the Great Thunderstorm Warnings. “The last record was so heavy,” reflects Jace. “There was so much weight and heavy themes, like my dad dying. It was just death everywhere on that record. This album doesn't really seem to be that. To me, it seems very playful.”
They gathered in a gorgeous barn at Lost River Studios, deep in the woods of the Laurentians, to record the album. Spending 5 days compiling, experimenting and experiencing the creative solitude in the woods with some of the band’s family members there. The result is a playful yet thoughtful and heartfelt collection of psychedelic sounds and experiences, which was mixed by Lasek at the Rigaud Ranch Studio.
The first cut lifted from the album ‘In Hollywood’ dates back to 2010 and…are the Roaring Night era, recalls co-singer Olga Goreas: “It’s a melody that was circulating in Jace’s mind for many years. Unable to let it go, Jace sat with it and finally brought it to light. Written in a dropped D tuning, In Hollywood is atypical in the Besnard canon. Some very creative synth work from Sheenah in the outro. A beautifully bizarre guitar solo from Gabriel. This one shows off Jace’s vocal stylings and has an intriguing lyrical journey for the listener to discover.”
The Besnard Lakes Are the Ghost Nation is another fascinating trip and it might just be their best album yet; a strive for hope when it is needed most.

Ólafur Arnalds keert terug naar Brussel met niet één, maar twee onmisbare concerten in het Koninklijk Circus op 12 en 13 oktober 2026! Deze Belgische concerten maken deel uit van de "Falling Apart Together"-tour, een vernieuwende en ambitieuze liveshow van de IJslandse componist. De tour brengt hem langs zorgvuldig geselecteerde Europese steden, met haltes in onder meer Dublin, Londen, Parijs, Berlijn en natuurlijk Brussel!
Ólafur Arnalds is een veelvuldig bekroonde IJslandse componist en producer, bekend om zijn unieke talent om neoklassieke, elektronische en ambient muziek te verweven tot soundscapes met grote emotionele diepgang. Het Brusselse publiek heeft warme herinneringen aan zijn passage in 2025 met Kiasmos, tijdens grootse concerten in het Koninklijk Circus en het OLT Rivierenhof. Die concerten stonden in het teken van de terugkeer van het iconische duo dat hij vormt met zijn landgenoot Janus Rasmussen. Arnalds blijft voortdurend in beweging en werkt aan tal van projecten, onder meer met zangeres Loreen binnen het project "SAGES" en met artiest Talos voor "A Dawning". Met "Falling Apart Together" verkent Ólafur Arnalds een format dat het traditionele concert overstijgt en uitmondt in een diepgaande, zintuigelijke en emotionele ervaring. Het project nodigt uit om artiest en publiek dichter bij elkaar te brengen en focust op menselijke kwetsbaarheid. Het onderzoekt de beschermingsmechanismen die we opbouwen, maar ook de schoonheid die ontstaat wanneer die beginnen te barsten. Omringd door trouwe muzikanten combineert Ólafur nieuwe composities en opvallende stukken uit zijn rijke repertoire in een hybride format dat de grenzen van een liveoptreden verlegt. Na de veelgeprezen en wereldwijd uitverkochte tours "re:member" en "some kind of peace" keert hij terug met zijn meest persoonlijke werk tot nu toe. Festival Dranouter is meer dan muziek - het is thuiskomen, ontdekken, samen zingen en verdwalen tussen folk, roots en nieuwe stemmen. Precies dat hoor je terug in de nieuwe namen op de line-up: Dressed Like Boys, ISE, Camilo Donoso, Katherine Priddy, Roberta Gulisano Trio en Kadril met special guests Patrick Riguelle en Eva De Roovere. Op het grootste West-Vlaamse festival beleef je ook onvergetelijke momenten met Pommelien Thijs, Raymond van het Groenewoud, Sylvie Kreusch, Bart Peeters & De Ideale Mannen, ZAZ en Flip Kowlier met de exclusieve jubileumshow '25 jaar Ocharme Ik'. Je kijkt niet scheel: op algemeen verzoek keert Dressed Like Boys nu al terug naar Festival Dranouter. Na een indrukwekkende zegetocht met een titelloos debuut, zes MIA-nominaties en uitverkochte shows vertaalt Jelle Denturck zijn persoonlijke verhalen over vrijheid, liefde en identiteit naar kwetsbare, openhartige songs. De Cirque was vorig jaar te klein voor dit groots talent, dus dit jaar schittert hij op de mainstage. Intiem, breekbaar en meeslepend - dit is zo'n concert waar je muisstil van wordt.
Fris gezicht met oeroud concept: Camilo Donoso levert hoogst persoonlijke maar universele liedjes vol emotie en eerlijkheid, geïnspireerd door Shaffy en De Vos. Rijzende ster binnen de Nederlandstalige muziek!
De piepjonge Belgische folky indierock-ster ISE brak op haar 17e al door na De Nieuwe Lichting (StuBru), met meer dan 65 shows wereldwijd - van Sziget tot Japan. Haar debuutalbum 'Suitcase Child' serveert je rauwe, persoonlijke verhalen over jeugd, scheiding en emoties. Haar debuutalbum, full band en nieuw geluid zijn klaar voor Dranouter. ISE live is intens, eerlijk en onvergetelijk.
Katherine Priddy bestormt de folkscene met haar derde album 'These Frightening Machines' en krijgt volop airplay op Radio 1. Met haar spookachtige stem, loepzuiver fingerpicking-gitaarspel en uitverkochte tours slaat ze de traditie in van Joni Mitchell en Joan Baez. Dit aanstormend talent combineert literaire diepgang met songs die raken, verbinden en blijven hangen. Wie zichzelf een muziekliefhebber noemt, moét deze straffe madam live zien deze zomer.
Roberta Gulisano, het krachtige Siciliaanse talent met een uitzonderlijk warme en expressieve stem, veroverde Europa met haar intense, persoonlijke songs en weelderige arrangementen. Op haar nieuwste album brengt ze hedendaagse folk, hypnotiserende riffs en verhalen over verbondenheid en het samenspel van culturen. Een live ervaring die je niet mag missen.
In 2026 viert Kadril zijn 50ste verjaardag: tijd voor een feestje! Deze legendarische mijlpaal brengt hen terug naar Festival Dranouter, waar ze ooit hun allereerste lp voorstelden. De bekendste folkrockgroep van Vlaanderen blies Kadril eeuwenoude Vlaamse liederen nieuw leven in. Met een feestelijke mix van tijdloze traditie en nieuwe composities klinkt Kadril vandaag even levendig, herkenbaar en onweerstaanbaar als altijd. De overheid kondigde aan dat de BTW op festivaltickets in maart verhoogt. Momenteel zijn alle tickettypes beschikbaar aan een voordeliger tarief. Koop dus vóór maart je ticket aan & pik je voordeel mee. De vorige edities waren steeds volledig uitverkocht, goed voor maar liefst 55.000 festivalgangers. Met headliners als Pommelien Thijs, ZAZ, Sylvie Kreusch en Raymond van het Groenewoud gaat de ticketverkoop dit jaar als een trein.

Flanders Folk Awards 2026 – Vera Coomans (Madou) ontvangt Lifetime Achievement Award
Dit jaar wordt zangeres Vera Coomans (Madou) geëerd met de prestigieuze Lifetime Achievement Award tijdens de Flanders Folk Awards 2026, als erkenning voor haar indrukwekkende carrière.
Van straatmuziek in New York tot Rum en Madou: Vera Coomans (77, woont in Brussel, met muzikale roots in Antwerpen) gaf met haar heldere, soms breekbare maar altijd indringende stem poëtische en melancholische songs als Witte Nachten en Niets voor mij een iconische status in de Lage Landen. Ook daarna bleef ze verrassen, met samenwerkingen met onder anderen Philip Hoessen, haar zoon Thomas, Tom Theuns, Jaune Toujours en recent nog op de soundtrack van Putain (Zwangere Guy & Madou). Haar invloed klinkt vandaag nog even krachtig als veertig jaar geleden.
De awardshow vindt plaats in het begin van de Week van de Belgische Muziek, op dinsdag 3 februari in de AB. Naast de Lifetime Achievement Award worden prijzen uitgereikt in de categorieën Beste Live Band, Beste Album en Horizon, die vernieuwende projecten en beloftevolle bands in de schijnwerpers zet.

Adja is a Brussels-based singer, composer and theater maker whose work blends intimate storytelling with a soulful, genre-fluid sound rooted in jazz, R&B, soul and gospel. With a warm, earthy voice and a sharp sense of humor, she turns everyday experiences into emotionally resonant songs that feel both grounded and transcendent.
Inspired by artists like D'Angelo, Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill and Joni Mitchell, Adja crafts a rich, organic sound that is delicate when needed, yet deeply expressive. Kicking off the new year with a brand new single from The Hickey Underworld. "Keep" floats like an untethered reinvention of Chris Isaak's Wicked Game, reshaped through a scratched DIY lens. The track drifts in slow motion, as if suspended in open space with gravity switched off. Its melodies and words circle patiently, holding the tension of waiting for something or someone who may or may not return. The Hickey underworld are pessimists, so probably not.
Last November legendary Humo's Rock Rally Winners Younes Faltakh (vocals, guitar), Jonas Govaerts (guitar), Yorgos Tsakiridis (bas) and Jimmy Wouters (drums) announced that return of The Hickey Underworld in its original formation. 17 years after their self-titled debut album, they will release their fourth studio album "Cold Sun'", set for release on 13 March via V2 Records.
For the cover of Cold Sun, The Hickey Underworld collaborated with Polish artist Aleksandra Waliszewska, who counts Nick Cave among her admirers. After listening to a few rough mixes — "It reminded me of the kind of music I used to listen to in my youth" — Waliszewska invited the band to select three of her surreal paintings. That, however, came with one condition: "I wouldn't want to accept cash; instead, I would make a list of brushes, or possibly paints, that you could buy for me in exchange."

Stay tuned because on 19 January The Hickey will premier the video clip for "Keep". The video is directed by the Canadian production company "State of Poison", who specialises in music video's. After hearing the advance single "Euromancer," State of Poison reached out to The Hickey Underworld themselves: "Heard your music come up on our 'suggested' and were blown away! It would be sick to do a music video for you."
Inspired by classic animated films such as The Adventures of Prince Achmed (1926) and Moonbird (1959), the directing duo opted for a blend of stop-motion, paper cut-outs, and traditional cel animation. This handcrafted aesthetic dovetails perfectly with the fragile "Keep," the moment of calm on Cold Sun.
The band also announced several live dates, starting with a release show in Trix on 27th March.

Na een wervelende festivalzomer en uitverkochte zaalconcerten in De Roma en de AB, is het Das Pop-vuur in alle hevigheid opgeflakkerd. In Zweden werd de afgelopen maanden in de niet minder dan hete studiosauna van bassist Niek Meul hard gesleuteld aan nieuwe songs, waarvan het resultaat de komende weken en maanden op de wereld wordt losgelaten.
De basis voor gloednieuwe single Slow Motion Soul, een uitgesponnen droompop-ballas met een explosief einde, vonden Niek en Bent op een oude cassette uit 2002. Ze besloten een ongebruikte flard uit de song te gebruiken als aanmaakhout voor de wit-hete vlam die Slow Motion Soul geworden is en bouwden zo een brug die decennia overspant.
Maar ook het podium roept weer! Geïnspireerd door de wilde live-energie van de concerten en hun diepgravende liefde voor de popgesschiedenis, tasten Niek en Bent nog steeds de grenzen af van wat popmuziek kan en moet zijn. Die liefde wordt komende lente gevierd in een dampende hoogmis aan de pop. Een herboren en uitstekend gerodeerd Das Pop staat, gewapend met gloednieuwe songs en luid meezingbare hits uit legendarische Belpop-platen als I Love, Das Pop of The Game, trillend als een uigehongerde hond in de startblokken. Oh ja, er zullen ook t-shirts zijn.

To fix a heart with words is een nummer over je erbij neerleggen dat niet al je dromen ook werkelijkheid zullen worden, en dat dat helemaal oké is. Het is belangrijk om te dromen, maar even belangrijk om het waardevolle om je heen op tijd te herkennen. Jonas schreef dit nummer na een gesprek met zijn vierjarige petekindje. I fear the feeling that I do belong somewhere, and that somewhere could be here someday, klinkt het refrein. Het is een van de belangrijkste lessen van opgroeien: dat de plaats waarnaar je verlangt, misschien wel is waar het leven je ongemerkt al heen heeft gebracht. To fix a heart with words is een nummer over thuiskomen in jezelf en leren tevreden zijn met wat je hebt.
Home is just a state of mind komt op 30 januari uit bij Wellington Records. Het is een coming of age album dat terugkijkt op de woelige periode tussen je twintigste en dertigste. In het album keert momoyo terug naar de kern: een pure sound, live en dicht bij henzelf. De meestongenadig persoonlijke en ongedwongen muziek die ze tot dusver hebben gemaakt.
momoyo is de Gentse band rond Esther Coorevits (Tourist LeMC, Jan Verstraeten), Jonas Bruyneel (Vincent Coomans, Philemon), Frie Mechele, Renaud Debruyne (Mirek Coutigny, Mergel) en Sven Sabbe (Galine). Het vijftal verraste in 2020 met een debuut-ep die airplay kreeg op Radio 1 en Studio Brussel. In 2022 volgde het debuutalbum Gaps in time en toerde momoyo door België, Nederland en het Verenigd Koninkrijk. Begin 2025 herwerkte momoyo enkele nummers in de intieme EP Mirror Session. momoyo ontving lovende pers in binnen- en buitenland en werd meer dan anderhalf miljoen keer gestreamd.

Simon Le Ma is het artistieke geesteskind van Simon Martens (°1996), een Gents-Beverse zanger, gitarist en bassist. New Religion is de start van een nieuw hoofdstuk binnen Simons muzikale bijbel. Met zijn nieuwe single ontpopt hij zich van conceptuele songschrijver tot hyperactieve leider van een funky kerkdienst.
In 2023 zat Simon zonder band, zonder goesting en zonder lief. Op een druilerige zondag spuwde hij impulsief een nummer uit zijn ziel, wat uiteindelijk tot twee tragikomische albums leidde: The Housewarming LP (2023) en Train Of Thought (2024).
Nu Le Ma zijn leven stilaan terug op orde heeft, zoekt hij zijn heil in een nieuw geloof: het derde album wordt een dansbaar plaatje dat stinkt naar funk, Motown en oudeventenzweet. Opgehitst door snedige blazers, korrelige drums, stuwende Jamerson-baslijnen en nostalgische strijkers, zweet Le Ma de twijfel en de wanhoop uit zijn lijf.
In New Religion fileert Simon de penibele staat van de wereld. Om vervolgens vakkundig alle doem van zich af te werpen met zomerse blazers en dito vocals van Anly Lippens (Safran) en Pauline Declercq. Lichtvoetigheid als copingmechanisme, sweet Jesus!
New Religion is de eerste single van de aanstaande plaat Get Sweaty (release in september 2026 in eigen beheer). De single werd opgenomen en gemixt door Xavier De Clercq in zijn Poolside Studio (Jerry Spin, Ciska Ciska, Pingpongclub) en gemasterd door Jimmy Van Rietvelde (Tiny Voices Studio).
