Goose is excited to announce their upcoming sixth studio album, BIG MODERN!, arriving via No Coincidence Records on Friday, June 12.
Now announcement follows an array of cryptic teases from Goose, including a hilarious video posted to social media last Friday starring Emmy Award-nominated actor Jake Lacy (The White Lotus, The Office, Girls), who then accompanied the band as they sat courtside at the following night’s New York Knicks vs. Chicago Bulls game at NYC’s Madison Square Garden. Lacy sat between the four members of Goose, each of whom wore bright yellow hoodies spelling out “FACE” – a key lyrical component of their fan favorite song, “Big Modern!” The teaser video and MSG appearance capped off two weeks of speculation inspired by guerrilla marketing in major US cities featuring the words “BIG MODERN!” along with a BIGMODERN.com website displaying Morse code for mysterious phrases and interactive messaging based on Goose fans’ thoughts across social media.
A fully immersive world of sound that ingeniously captures what it feels like to move through today’s overstimulated, hyperconnected society, BIG MODERN! is heralded by today’s premiere of the rapturous new single, “Good2B.” From its first percussive note, the track offers up an unstoppable disco-funk energy, with sun-drenched congas, slinking bass lines, and organ hits dancing over an endless lyrical parade of people, places, and things. It’s joyous and messy; reward and distraction. It’s everything you could ever want, everywhere, all of the time, and all of it goes down smooth. But despite its intoxicating lightness, “Good2B” is laced with an anxious undercurrent. It’s a never-ending party with a looming expiration date.
“‘Good2B,’ and BIG MODERN! as a whole, deal with the occasional state of flow amidst absurdity,” says Goose’s Rick Mitarotonda. “It’s doing the electric slide down the grocery aisle between the Pop-Tarts and Frosted Flakes. Hyper-convenience, hyper-connected; lost in the digital sauce and feeling pretty good about it. All while we’re left with the nagging questions: how long can this feeling last? How long can all of it last?”
BIG MODERN! sees Goose confronting the relentless stimuli and accelerated absurdity of our present-day culture by meeting it head-on with their own sprawling versatility and creative range. Built on the back of the band’s vaunted improvisational prowess, the album highlights their ongoing musical evolution through 15 future-facing tracks that weave effortlessly through heartland rock piano ballads, accented orchestral jazz interludes, and high-octane synth rock.
Goose beckon listeners with high-energy pop grooves and searing guitar riffs, their genre-bending orchestration moving fleet-footedly between driving distortion and gorgeous choral harmonies. BIG MODERN! is everything, all at once – optimized, amplified, and specified. A dopamine-flooded world shaped by constant reward and distraction. Studio Chauffage in Gent, 2024 en 2025. Samen met producer Jérôme Pringiers (Oproer, J. Bernardt) werkt Zigzagtijger aan een plaat. Het debuutalbum vertrekt in februari 2027 naar Vlaanderen en Nederland. De tweede halte daaruit heet 'Donkere Berg (in het juiste licht)'.
Zeven muzikanten uit de Gentse muziekscene versmelten tot een collectief dat uitblinkt in verrassende popcomposities. Hun organische sound is zacht en schurend tegelijk. Zanger-verteller Jeroen Boone neemt je mee in zoekende verhalen terwijl de band stampende nachtblues afwisselt met fragiele liedjes. Rammelende gitaren en een donzige blazerssectie zorgen voor een unieke sound.
Op een mooie donderdag in februari 2025 lanceert Jeroen Boone, leadzanger en medecomponist van Zigzagtijger, deze boodschap tijdens een repetitie van de band: “Het is tijd voor een complex complexloos lied over het overwinnen van moeilijkheden. Dat ken ik, dat kennen we allemaal.” De tekst van 'Donkere berg (in het juiste licht)' rolt er samen met een fris aantal rockakkoorden als vanzelf uit en raakt. Keihard en zacht.
Obstakels die voor je opdoemen, hoeven geen obstakels te blijven. Je kan ze uitzweten in de sauna, wat naar een zee zitten staren. Je kan ze bespreken op café, wandelen, een liedje fluiten. De berg op en weer af. Misschien ligt er sneeuw op de top en een kers zoals op een taart? Je kan er met ogen voor een andere blik naar kijken en uiteindelijk uitkomen bij de slotsom: “In het juiste licht is de donkere berg helemaal geen donkere berg.”
Zigzagtijger ging als een volwaardig collectief aan de slag met de compositie van Jeroen. De energie werd omgezet in een kloeke track die qua sound flirt met de jaren tachtig en negentig. Een opstijgende synth-lijn, een vuil klinkende ritmesectie die schatplichtig is aan Pixies en een goede portie noise-akkoorden maken van 'Donkere Berg (in het juiste licht)' een catchy en meeslepende popsong.
Zigzagtijger is een nieuwe groep maar ieder bandlid heeft in het verleden zijn sporen verdiend in het veld. Koen Degand, Toon Westra en Jeroen Bot waren deel van Transit, Vlaamse postrocktrots in de jaren ‘00 met albums bij Zealrecords en passages in AB, Botanique en in DUYSTER.. David Decraene en Koen Degand maakten deel uit van Sofar, verstilde pracht uit Gent. Jeroen Boone speelt in het gipsykwartet De Miniemen dat recent aandacht kreeg op RTBF-radio. De meeste muzikanten van Zigzagtijger leerden elkaar echt heel goed kennen bij Zonen met vaders, een band die twee EP’s en een album uitbracht en meer dan vijftig shows speelde (o.a. in Minard Schouwburg en op het luisterplein van de Gentse Feesten en Labadoux festival).

Cathedral album
John Carpenter has announced his highly anticipated return to the realm of audio/visual narrative storytelling with Cathedral, a new album set for release August 7 on Sacred Bones Records alongside his first ever graphic novel, set for release August 4 via Storm King Comics. Carpenter and longtime band mates Cody Carpenter (synths) and Daniel Davies (guitar) offer its first single and visualizer for “Lord Of The Underground” May 19.
Designed as a fully immersive project, Cathedral functions as both soundtrack and narrative engine: each track aligns with a chapter of the graphic novel, with liner notes guiding listeners through the story. As a result the story unfurls like a film and is certainly the closest approximation to a new movie from Carpenter since 2010. “It was so cinematic and vivid,” Carpenter says of the dream that inspired the story. “I thought, ‘I have to score this.’ It’s kind of our first heavy metal album.”
Inspired by a vividly cinematic dream he had in 2024, the story centers on an abandoned church in downtown Los Angeles that shifts from a forgotten building to the site of a waking nightmare. After the killing of a police officer draws attention to the long-ignored cathedral, Lieutenant Christine Marks and detectives Paul Hernandez and Steve Mayfield are pulled into an investigation that leads them deep into its catacombs and toward a centuries-old evil imprisoned within. Both the album and graphic novel are previewed today with the release of “Lord of the Underground,” accompanied by a visual that features animated versions of illustrations from the book.
“The story informed everything,” says longtime musical collaborator Daniel Davies of the album. “John would describe a scene and say, ‘We need a heavy riff here.’ We didn’t set out to make a metal record, but it evolved that way.” Carpenter is joined by Davies and Cody Carpenter, continuing a partnership that spans the Lost Themes album series, the recent Halloween films, and multiple reworkings of Carpenter’s classic scores. On Cathedral, the trio leans into a heavier, more aggressive palette without losing the tension and atmosphere that define Carpenter’s sound.
Whereas the Lost Themes albums were written as scores to movies of the mind, Cathedral scores the first original graphic novel written by Carpenter, in collaboration with his wife and long-time creative partner, producer and editor Sandy King, and writer Sean Sobczak, fleshed out by illustrators Federico De Luca and Luis Guaragna, colored by Sian Mandrake, and lettered by Marshall Dillon. Fans can get a first peek of its look via the visualizer for “Lord Of The Underground” out today and its first chapter, as featured in John Carpenter’s anthology Tales For A HalloweeNight Vol 11 (see four pages from that chapter here).
While the Cathedral album was crafted to be listened to as one reads the graphic novel, it was important to Carpenter that the music stand on its own. “That’s first and foremost,” the director says. “It’s all about making the music work. This is somewhat different sounding stuff that we've done, but it's done with the same desire in mind,” he adds. “In other words, put this thing on and imagine you're watching a movie. That’s what we want you to do.”
With Cathedral, Carpenter extends his world-building into a tightly wound, cross-medium experience; part score, part story, and unmistakably his own.
About John Carpenter
John Carpenter is an influential filmmaker, screenwriter, producer, and composer whose work has shaped modern horror and genre cinema for decades. A graduate of the USC School of Cinema, he first gained attention with Dark Star before breaking through with Halloween in 1978, which became the most profitable independent film of its time and launched a landmark franchise.
His directing credits include genre classics such as The Fog, The Thing, Escape From New York, Big Trouble In Little China, They Live, Christine, Prince of Darkness, In The Mouth Of Madness, Vampires, and Escape from L.A., as well as Starman, which earned Jeff Bridges an Academy Award nomination. For television, he directed “Elvis” and “John Carpenter Presents Body Bags,” and received a CableACE Award for writing El Diablo. More than five decades in, for the first time in his career he will release his first original graphic novel with CATHEDRAL in August 2026. Also to further cement his talents as a composer and musical artist known for soundtracking his own projects, the release will be accompanied by CATHEDRAL the album this August.
Carpenter is also an accomplished composer, releasing his debut non-soundtrack album Lost Themes in 2014 to international acclaim. Born in Carthage, New York, and raised in Bowling Green, Kentucky, he lives in Hollywood with his wife and producing partner, Sandy King.

When MONO recorded their previous album, OATH, with longtime production partner and friend, Steve Albini in 2023, they never fathomed that it would be the final studio album they made together. Albini tragically died the following year, and that loss left an incalculable void in the lives of not just everyone who ever knew Steve, but everyone with an attachment to any of the thousands of records he helped bring into world over the past four decades. He brought a clarity to the chaos, and a selfless sense of service to art and artists that was unrivaled. On both a personal and practical level, the loss left MONO faced with profound grief and uncertainty. Albini had become a fundamental part of MONO’s unmistakable sound, and the thought of replacing him was daunting, to say the least. Enter: Brad Wood (Touché Amoré, The Smashing Pumpkins).
Chosen for both his familiarity with MONO’s creative and technical working process – as well as his decades-long friendship with Steve Albini – Brad Wood entered Albini’s storied Electrical Audio studios in September 2025 to record what would become Snowdrop. Once again working with Chicago-based conductor and orchestral musical director, Chad McCullough, MONO enlisted a 10-piece orchestra as well as an 8-piece choir for the eight massive pieces that make up Snowdrop. With the band performing and Wood recording in the same hallowed space where most of MONO’s records had been made in their quarter-century history, the songs on Snowdrop carry an extra weight. Mixed by Wood at his Seagrass home studio in Los Angeles, the album is equally intimate and enveloping.
Where there could easily be a pall hanging over Snowdrop, there is instead an extraordinary air of gratitude. Rather than steep in heartache, there is a poignant appreciation for the resonance of life well-spent with a dear friend – and the yearning for what may come. Snowdrop is the sound of a band turning shock and sadness into hope and wonder – and finding renewed focus in the freedom of unknowing.

Pain Gain, the collaborative project of Chloe Kaul (Kllo), Hamish Lefevre (SWIM), and Samuel Cooke (CRUSH3d), today announce their self-titled debut album Pain Gain, out July 10 via Play It Again Sam. Alongside the announcement, the trio unveil new single The Fame, offering a striking new window into the world they've built together.
Formed in 2023, Pain Gain began as a deliberate left turn. Shedding their established electronic identities, Kaul, Lefevre and Cooke retreated to the beachside forests of southern Australia, armed with guitars, modular synths and a tape recorder. What began as a temporary escape soon evolved into something far more profound: a complete recalibration of sound, process and purpose. The result is Pain Gain, a debut album that trades velocity for gravity, moving fluidly between indie rock melodrama and expansive pop balladry while rejecting genre as a fixed idea.
New single The Fame sits at the core of the record's emotional landscape. Playing with the familiar architecture of a pop hit, the track subverts expectation to expose the hollow reality beneath success. Written by Kaul during a rare pause from years of touring, its lyrics interrogate what 'making it' really means, before being brought to life collaboratively during the band's remote recording sessions.
"The Fame is a raw look at the seductive pull and hidden cost of fame, viewed from the outside. The track confronts the illusion of it all, the personal sacrifices it demands and the emotional weight it places on those chasing it. At its core, it's not just about the obsession with success, but what it takes from you. It's a reflection on identity, mental strain, and the quiet fear of losing yourself in the very thing you once wanted most."
Across Pain Gain, that tension becomes a guiding force. The album's ten tracks trace personal upheaval with unflinching honesty, led by Kaul's at-times-excoriating lyricism, while Lefevre and Cooke shape immersive, tactile soundscapes where no single voice dominates. Working instinctively, the trio embraced single takes, analogue experimentation and the beauty of imperfection, allowing songs to emerge organically from their surroundings. Each room of their retreat became a makeshift studio; melodies drifted through kitchen conversations, while lyrics were forged in late-night exchanges by the fire.

Despite arriving from distinct musical paths, Pain Gain is less a reinvention than a shared language discovered. Rooted in instinct and play, the project became an immersive, almost familial experience for its members, one that ultimately shaped a record concerned with transformation, and the clarity found in its aftermath.

"Kent u een andere artiest die zelfs maar van op een afstand lijkt of klinkt als Guido Belcanto? Ik alvast niet. Ik ken er zo maar één en dat komt, volgens mij, omdat er zo ook maar één is. En die heet toevallig ook Guido Belcanto." Zo sprak de wijze Marc Didden onlangs, schrijver en goede vriend van Guido Belcanto.
En dat Guido Belcanto uniek in zijn soort is, bewijst hij nogmaals met "Een Klap Op Je Kop", de eerste single van zijn nieuwe album dat zal uitkomen dit najaar op V2 records. "Een Klap Op Je Kop" is een vrije bewerking van "Kick in the Head", een weinig bekend nummer van Loudon Wainwright. Dit rustige pianonummer bewerkte Guido als een stampende, rockende uptempo song. “Ik wist dat het liedje vanaf de eerste seconde in die flow moest zitten,” vertelt Judith. “Normaal gesproken bouw ik een song geleidelijk op: ‘Eerst een rustig gitaartje, eerst even rustig inzetten’…en dan wordt het steeds groter en groter. The Strokes – Falling out of Love
The Strokes onthulden vorige week hun nieuwe single ‘Falling out of Love’ van hun aankomende album ‘Reality Awaits’. ‘Falling out of Love’ volgt op de single ‘Going Shopping’, het eerste voorproefje van het nieuwe album.
Het album werd opgenomen in Costa Rica met producer Rick Rubin en over de hele wereld afgewerkt. ‘Reality Awaits’ markeert de eerste nieuwe muziek van de band sinds het veelgeprezen ‘The New Abnormal’ uit 2020.

Dotan – Let You Go
De nieuwe single van Dotan heet ‘Let You Go’.
De track is de tweede single van zijn nieuwe album, dat later dit jaar wordt verwacht. ‘Let You Go’ is een heel persoonlijke song, vertelt de singer-songwriter: “‘Let You Go’ gaat over de innerlijke tweestrijd tussen willen vasthouden en leren loslaten”. Met zijn nieuwe single koos Dotan bewust voor een ander geluid: “De basis is een stuwende groove. De track is puur vanuit een drumpatroon geschreven, dat heb ik nog nooit eerder gedaan”.
De afgelopen weken tourde de Nederlandse artiest met zijn uitverkochte akoestische solotour door Europa, waarbij hij 22 shows speelde in onder meer Duitsland, Italië, Spanje, Engeland en Scandinavië. Afsluiten deed hij met concerten in Antwerpen en Amsterdam. Dotan speelt dit jaar nog Belgische shows in Kortrijk, Gent en Brussel.

Met zijn nieuwste zomersingle ‘Zot Verliefd’ pakt Bart Kaëll uit met een aanstekelijke en zonnige popsong die perfect inspeelt op het gevoel van zorgeloos verliefd zijn.

The Byrds - Fifth Dimension
De Amerikaanse band The Byrds combineerde in de jaren ’60 het beste van de energie van de “British Invasion” met de toen in de US populaire folkstroming en hun prachtige harmonies.
De band van Roger McGuinn en David Crosby bracht in 1966 ‘Fifth Dimension’ uit met daarop de wereldhit ’Eight Miles High’. ‘Fifth Dimension’ verschijnt deze week als een 60th anniversary uitgave op 1.500 genummerde stuks op oranje vinyl.

“LEAVE ME BE” dives deep into the underbelly of urban life, exploring the collapse of society and the psychological toll of living in the streets. From sleeping on station benches to navigating coded chaos, the lyrics confront addiction, isolation, and the layers of anger and despair that accumulate when the world turns cold.
This single builds on the momentum of STEVE’s previous release, “I’M NOT DEAD”, expanding their exploration of dystopian urban life while hinting at a darker, more unpredictable sonic world.

Cheap Cult is een Gentse indierockband met leden van onder andere School is cool, Mooneye, DVKES en Dishwasher. De groep bevindt zich op het spanningsveld tussen psychedelische pop en krautrock. Even voorstellen - Francis kondigt nieuwe single ‘Ease My Mind aan’, warme indiepop voor rusteloze gedachten
De Leuvense band Francis is terug met nieuw werk. Na hun eerdere singles en de veelbelovende EP Greenhouse zet de vijfkoppige groep opnieuw een stap vooruit met Ease My Mind, hun nieuwe single die binnenkort verschijnt.
Francis — bestaande uit Louise Beerts (zang), Arnaud Evens en Willem De Flander (gitaar), Flor Minten (bas) en Dries Janssen (drums) — brengt een warme mix van indiepop, soul en rock. Met zwevende gitaren, subtiele grooves en een meeslepende stem creëren ze een sound die tegelijk intiem en groots aanvoelt.
Ease My Mind gaat over het zoeken naar rust in periodes van innerlijke onrust. De song vertaalt dat gevoel in een warme, gedragen sound die troost biedt zonder zwaar te worden. Het nummer balanceert tussen kwetsbaarheid en hoop, en nodigt uit om even stil te staan in de drukte van alledag.
Voor deze release werkte de band opnieuw aan een sound die rijper, rijker klinkt. Daarmee bouwt Francis verder aan hun herkenbare stijl: melodieuze songs met emotionele diepgang en een natuurlijke flow tussen indie, soul en alternatieve rock.
Na de airplay van eerdere releases op onder meer Nostalgie en Radio Emotion blijft Francis verder groeien binnen het Belgische muzieklandschap. Ease My Mind vormt bovendien een volgende stap richting een groter geheel: de band werkt momenteel verder aan nieuwe muziek met het oog op een toekomstig album.

The Radar Station is known for their authentic live performances, winning over even the most skeptical listeners and continually surprising returning audiences, as their songs evolve on stage with ideas that emerge in the heat of the moment.
The Radar Station played sold-out release tours for both their first and second albums, performing at venues including Ancienne Belgique, Trix, Het Depot, De Arenberg, and many more.

The Radar Station emerged in 2017 from the musical collaboration between brothers Brent Buckler (vocals, guitar) and Sander Cliquet (guitar, backing vocals, synths), creating a distinctive blend of indie rock with cinematic soundscapes. Their sound has always been full of ambition, intensity and raw emotion - drawing inspiration from artists like The National, The War on Drugs, Sam Fender, Nick Cave and Big Thief.
In 2020, they won De Nieuwe Lichting, Belgium's top music contest, launching their debut album Life Inside A Tornado, which hit the airwaves on stations like Studio Brussel, Radio 1, Willy and Radio 2. With sold out shows at venues like AB, Trix and Het Depot and appearances at festivals including Dranouter and Labadoux, The Radar Station made its mark in the Belgian indie scene.
Their second album, Birds Of Choice, produced by Koen Gisen (The Bony King Of Nowhere, Oscar & The Wolf, Nordmann), came out fall 2025 and reflects a more mature and straightforward band.
Songs like Where Will You Go? and January Colours, capture a band embracing change. Each track is its own journey, blending Cliquet's expansive sonic landscape with introspective lyrics by Buckler, whose unique warm voice infuse the songs with an extraordinary amount of vitality and passion.
Buckler: "I wrote the lyrics after a restless period eating up the better part of my late 20s. A play of coincidence shaped my life, only to wake up realising it all didn't feel right. It was a time of big changes with some old friendships and relationships coming to an end. Birds Of Choice is about looking for what truly matters and taking control of your own path in life."
