ESNS (Eurosonic Noorderslag) kondigt achttien Ierse acts aan voor Eurosonic, waaronder F3miii, THEATRE en Esmeralda Road. Eerder dit jaar maakte ESNS bekend dat Ierland een centrale plek krijgt op de editie van 2027. Ieder jaar zet het festival de meest urgente opkomende acts uit één Europees land in de spotlight, om de veelzijdigheid van Europees talent te laten zien. Ierse artiesten Aaron Rowe, Bleech 9:3 en mischa and the bear zijn al bevestigd met de aankondiging van de eerste acts. Eurosonic vindt plaats van 13 tot en met 15 januari in Groningen.

Viering van de Ierse muziek scene
In nauwe samenwerking met de toonaangevende Ierse muziekorganisatie First Music Contact en het Ierse radiostation RTÉ 2FM als mediapartner stelt ESNS een programma samen dat Ierse muzikaal succes viert. Door de focus op Ierland te leggen, erkent ESNS de investeringen van Ierland in zijn artiesten en de vooruitstrevende infrastructuur als best practice.

Nieuwe generatie Europees talent
De eerste lichting bevestigde acts voor Eurosonic bevat namen als Gildaa (FR), Gwenifer Raymond (UK-WAL), HVNDS (RO), Ida The Young (CZ), Isabel van Gelder (NL), Little Grandad (UK-ENG), MICHA (NL), Olga Myko (SE), Osayuki (BE), panicbaby (DE), Pigeon (UK-ENG) and TeddyBear (BE). De kaartverkoop voor Eurosonic en Noorderslag is gestart. Een Delegate Pass geeft toegang tot de festivals, de conferentie en het exclusieve programma voor delegates in De Oosterpoort op woensdag.

Elk jaar in januari verandert Groningen in het kloppende hart van de Europese muziekindustrie, wanneer
ESNS haar showcasefestival en muziekconferentie organiseert. Van woensdag tot en met vrijdag zijn tijdens Eurosonic opkomende acts uit Europa op podia in de binnenstad te zien. De zaterdag staat in het teken Noorderslag, al sinds 1986 de graadmeter voor de Nederlandse popmuziek. Alleen de meest veelbelovende Europese en Nederlandse artiesten krijgen hier de kans zich te presenteren aan muziekliefhebbers en professionals.
Het hele jaar door ondersteunt ESNS talent via initiatieven zoals de European Talent Exchange en reikt het belangrijke prijzen uit, waaronder de Music Moves Europe Awards, de European Festival Awards en de Popprijs. Daarnaast werkt ESNS samen met belangrijke organisaties als Yourope, EBU en Green Deal Circular Festivals om een diverse en duurzame muziekscene te bevorderen.

De Gents-Beverse Simon Le Ma bracht net zijn nieuwe album Get Sweaty uit, een dansbaar plaatje dat stinkt naar funk, Motown en oudeventenzweet. Daarin maakt de muzikant en songschrijver komaf met spoken uit het verleden en zoekt hij zijn heil in een nieuwe religie: Motown funk. Get Sweaty werd opgenomen en gemixt door Xavier De Clercq (Poolside Studio) en gemasterd door Jimmy Van Rietvelde (Tiny Voices Studio).

Eosine. Een buitenbeentje op ons roster. Met hun geweldige emodreampopprogpunksludgemetalcore, die hondsdolle en rétestrakke band en die razende Len aan de mic. Hun show op Reeperbahn in Hamburg drie weken geleden was de beste die ik tot nu toe van hen zag: ik werd er zelf een beetje emo(core) van. Regan-uit-The-Exorcist-vibes maar dan met gitaren.
Debuutplaat ‘Vicariant Narratives’ verschijnt op 8 januari, maar de komende weken droppen we alvast een paar bommetjes uit die plaat. Te beginnen vandaag met ‘Incantations’, een zeven minuten durende sludgy dreampop-trip en een hoogtepunt op elke Eosineshow.
De albumreleaseshow in de AB Club (5 feb) is bijna uitverkocht. Deze week werd een nieuwe Belgische tour aangekondigd, en volgende week volgen een half dozijn Nederlandse data.

Ondertussen is de plaat klaar, en de eerste single een feit. Tijd om de baan op te gaan! Ik kan behoorlijk zweverig doen over de magie die ontstaat als je met fijne mensen op een podium samen muziek maakt. Dat gevoel ook nog eens overbrengen naar het publiek, dat is van 't beste. Net daarom kijk ik er enorm hard naar uit. Ondertussen zijn we ongeveer een jaar verder dan toen ik mijn eerste demo's opnam, dus het is hoog tijd. Ik zou het zalig vinden als je eens komt kijken, het gaat goed zijn!
We zijn momenteel ook aan het bekijken naar welke shows we de schilderijen van Katrien kunnen meenemen, die ze gemaakt heeft voor het artwork van deze plaat.

We're only here to make you go! Open'er enters October with another mighty drop of acts for its 2027 edition, with The Chemical Brothers added as Thursday headliners. 25 years after their performance at the festival's inaugural edition, the legendary duo will close Orange Main Stage with their spectacular show.
Also joining the line-up are Ellie Goulding, one of the defining voices of 21-century British pop; Adéla, top of this year's biggest names in global pop, fresh off the release of her debut album, "Prima"; 5 Seconds of Summer, one of Australia's most popular contemporary rock and pop bands; and underscores, bringing together a unique blend of electronic music, hyperpop, dance, indie rock, shoegaze and punk to create her own artistic universe.

UNDERSCORES
Hailing from San Francisco, Filipino-American artist April Harper Grey started making music as underscores in middle school. For years, she released a steady stream of one-offs via SoundCloud, which endeared her to like minded artists and a burgeoning community of fans, but it wasn't until 2017, with the release of EP "skin purifying treatment", that the project stepped out of its solitary origins and began to capture the attention of a much larger audience. In 2021, underscores released the debut album, "fishmonger", written and recorded in that same childhood bedroom amidst the pandemic. She gained even more recognition with "boneyard aka fearmonger", a collection of seven tracks that manages to sound like both the climax of and the morning after the craziest night of your life. In 2023 "Wallsocket", became one of the critics' favourites, and this year's "U" dove deep into the exploration of hyper-pop and dance music, making it to the Top 5 of albums of 2026.
"When people listen to underscores, I want their initial reaction to be, 'This is ridiculous'. But the more they listen to it, they should hear the nuance in it, the heaviness in it, and I hope they connect with it on some kind of emotional level", says April. For nearly twenty years, Swedish singer-songwriter Kristian Matsson has played his way around the world as The Tallest Man on Earth, carving out a singular place in contemporary folk music. But his new album ‘Just Beyond Endless Mountain’ - out October 9thon Anti- Records with a stunning cover portrait by legendary photographer Anton Corbijn - quietly turns that perspective on its head. After returning to his native Dalarna in central Sweden a few years ago, Matsson found himself listening to the music he had spent years trying to leave behind: the polskas, the old field recordings and the sounds of the local traditions that had surrounded him since childhood. The result is not a return to the past, but a step into new musical territory. Swedish folk music has reshaped his melodies, his voice, and the way he writes songs.
About halfway through the record, driving guitar & propulsive drumming provide the backdrop for the new single out today, "Deliver Me from Trying", as distorted vocals reveal a message of longing to let go. "When I listened back to it, I thought, 'Yeah... okay. Good job, Kristian. You didn't really know what you were doing there. 'Deliver Me from Trying—just let me stop trying. That line just appeared, and it wasn't until later that I realized what it meant. It says a lot about where I was at."

Dalarna is the place Swedes return to, again and again, to reconnect with their past, for better and for worse. This is where Matsson grew up during the 1980s and '90s, surrounded by fiddlers and folk dancers, timber cabins and flower-clad Midsummer poles. You learned the dances in school, the music too, and every national holiday was celebrated with folk musicians, traditional dress, and the folk games that had been passed down for generations. It is as if the landscape itself had internalized the nation's longing for some primordial refuge—a place to retreat whenever modernity had gone too far and, in the process, taken its own people hostage.
Matsson, however, refused to be captured so easily. He started indie bands, hurled himself across the stage like Iggy Pop, and spent his winters snowboarding. His teenage love of unruly rock gave way to an obsession with American blues and folk music. Then came the breakthrough: extensive tours, festival stages, steadily growing audiences, increasingly ambitious recordings, the move to America, and the constant pendulum swing between performing alone and wanting a full band beside him, both onstage and in the studio. Twenty wild years have passed since he released his first EP.
But something changed when he finally stopped moving. A new chapter began. Dalarna became home in the truest sense. Matsson’s farm became his fortress, and the home studio, that had sometimes stood silent, once again became a place where inspiration could rush in—and where freedom opened new windows. He started a garden, bought shares in a few horses, and picked up an ATV to clear the snow from his driveway. And then he bought even more instruments. The fiddle — an instrument he'd had a complicated relationship with since childhood — found its way back into his life. He picked it up hesitantly but soon became obsessed. Now, he opens his concerts with a polska by Pål Olle of Östbjörka.
"Somewhere along the way I'd developed this immature aversion to the whole cultural inheritance I grew up with,” Matsson explains. “But now I live here again. I've read an incredible amount—not just about the music, but about how people actually lived in the old days. I think that's part of why this record feels more like me than anything I've made before. This album really comes from somewhere."

Met het mini-album ‘Obra’ (‘werk’, ‘creatie’) sluit Ão, een jaar na hun gevierde tweede album, het hoofdstuk Malandra af: vijf nieuwe nummers die het verhaal van de malandra rond maken. ‘Obra’ verschijnt half april.
Opener en eerste single ‘Sofrimento’ (‘het lijden’, ‘leed’) is een herwerking van de gelijknamige cultclassic van de Angolese artiest Waldemar Bastos, geworteld in de rijke sembatraditie. Een song over het leed dat mensen en hun volk wordt aangedaan, én een oproep om elkaar de hand te reiken. Het nummer zit al sinds het prille begin in hun liveset en groeide uit tot een volwaardige Ão-song.
Eind 2026 sluit Ão de Malandra-tour van ruim 80 concerten af met een reeks van zeven uitverkochte shows in België (1 Roma, 2 Handelsbeurzen, 2 Depots en 2 Cactussen), drie in Nederland (Bitterzoet in A’dam, Effenaar in Eindhoven en Merleyn in Nijmegen), en een uitgebreide internationale tournee –
In 2027 breien ze er, net als met ‘Obra’, nog een mooie staart aan met terug een reeks shows doorheen Europa om te eindigen in Nederland (R’dam, Utrecht, Groningen, Nijmegen) en eigen land in de Ancienne Belgique en nog eens in De Roma.

Een tot de nok gevulde Antwerpse AFAS Dome mag komende zondag (11 januari) weer met volle teugen genieten van wereldberoemd violist en orkestleider André Rieu zijn traditionele en geliefde Nieuwjaarsconcert. De 'Koning van de wals' heeft in aanloop naar dit concert alvast goed nieuws voor de vele fans, want André kondigt nu al met grote vreugde de datum aan van zijn Nieuwjaarsconcert 2027 in Antwerpen. Op zondag 10 januari 2027 verwelkomt hij zijn publiek opnieuw met open armen in de AFAS Dome voor een onvergetelijke avond vol muziek, vreugde en romantiek om het nieuwe jaar feestelijk in te luiden. Samen met zijn beroemde Johann Strauss Orkest belooft André Rieu opnieuw een betoverend programma met walsen, klassieke meesterwerken, geliefde melodieën en verrassingen die het publiek zullen raken en verblijden. Tickets zijn verkrijgbaar vanaf vrijdag 9 januari 2026 om 12:00 uur via de officiële website www.andrerieu.com. VIP-arrangementen kunnen worden geboekt via André Rieu Travel. Vanwege de grote belangstelling wordt aangeraden om tijdig te reserveren.

Na het succes van haar fel gesmaakte vorige single “Hier bij mij” (100k streams op Spotify, A playlist Radio 2) die afgelopen voorjaar uitkwam, verschijnt op 9 oktober haar nieuwe single “Waar” voor haar geschreven door Daalman.
Liliane Saint-Pierre is zondermeer La Grande Dame van het Vlaamse chanson, actief als ‘recording artist’ sinds de prille jaren 60 van de vorige eeuw, en met 20 albums en meer dan 90 singles op de teller, opgenomen in het Nederlands, Frans, Duits en Engels. Talrijke hits en honderduizenden platen verkocht. Eén van de weinige Vlaamse artiesten die het ook ver buiten landsgrenzen schopte. Coroner ontstond in 1985 in Zürich en groeide uit tot een van de meest invloedrijke en technisch vooruitstrevende thrashbands. Met Ron Broder (bas & vocals), Tommy Vetterli (gitaar) en Marky Edelmann (drums) bracht het trio tussen 1987 en 1994 vijf baanbrekende albums uit, die vandaag nog steeds gelden als cultklassiekers.
Hun sound balanceert tussen snelheid, precisie en complexiteit, met invloeden uit klassieke muziek, jazz en industrial. Niet voor niets worden ze vaak omschreven als “the Rush of thrash metal” en behoren ze, samen met bands als Voivod en Watchtower, tot de pioniers van technical en progressive thrash.
Na hun split in 1996 keerde de band in 2011 terug, niet om te herhalen maar om verder te bouwen. Sindsdien speelden ze selecte shows en festivals wereldwijd, waaronder Hellfest en Maryland Deathfest.
In 2025 brachten ze, na meer dan dertig jaar, nieuw werk uit via Century Media. Geen nostalgie, maar een krachtige en eigentijdse plaat die internationaal werd geprezen. Met dit nieuwe hoofdstuk staan ze opnieuw op de podia wereldwijd.
