In the video accompanying the track, Eno Williams walks into the centre of the frame and unleashes the chorus refrain, ‘What is your concept of love?’, through a vocoder with warmth and urgency as the track locks into an Afro-disco pulse and she starts to chant in her native Ibibio language.
‘Concept of Love’ began life through a long process of reshaping and rebuilding before arriving at its final form as a soulful, electronic fusion that captures the spirit of the wider album, one that was made in reaction to an increasingly unstable world, holding onto ideas of love, resistance, togetherness and hope without losing sight of the dancefloor.
Williams explains that ‘Concept of Love’ “went through many different stages and ended up with a soulful, electronic Afro-disco feel. What you give out into the world is what you receive back, it's beautiful to be loved”
Recorded primarily at the band’s own Vanguard Studios in South London, Chopping Mountain marks the first Ibibio Sound Machine album produced by Grunhard since 2019’s Doko Mien. Following the Hot Chip-produced Electricity and the darker, club-focused direction of Pull the Rope, their new record feels both expansive and deeply rooted, drawing on the earthy textures of classic West African highlife alongside post-punk, Afrobeat, soul and electronic music.
Across the album, the eight-piece band sound sharper and more connected than ever, building songs through live jams, rhythmic experiments and instinctive interplay. Whether channeling the euphoric disco energy of ‘When You Want To Dance’, the spiritual intensity of ‘Return To Sender’ or the soulful highlife of ‘Love’, Chopping Mountain presents Ibibio Sound Machine as a group still evolving, still searching, and still firmly committed to joy as an act of resistance.

Ibibio Sound Machine are a London-based collective led by Nigerian-British vocalist Eno Williams and producer Max Grunhard, known for their singular fusion of West African highlife, funk and disco with electronic and post-punk influences. Videodroom verwelkomt de IJslandse experimentele poppioniers múm voor een gloednieuwe live soundtrack bij de verstilde Canadese cultklassieker 'La vie rêvée' (Dream Life).
Voor deze bijzondere voorstelling wordt de groep vergezeld door de gelauwerde componist en cellist Hildur Guðnadóttir, die al sinds de beginjaren een nauwe artistieke band met múm onderhoudt. Intussen groeide Guðnadóttir uit tot een van de meest toonaangevende filmcomponisten van haar generatie, bekroond met onder meer een Oscar, Grammy, Golden Globe en Emmy voor haar muziek bij Joker en Chernobyl.
Dromerige arthouse-vampierfilm 'Nadja' – geproduceerd door David Lynch – krijgt een gloednieuwe live soundtrack van de rijzende ambientpopster more eaze.
Geïnspireerd door Dracula's Daughter (1936) en André Bretons surrealistische roman Nadja (1928), volgt Michael Almereyda's veelgeprezen cultfilm de mysterieuze vampier Nadja (Elina Löwensohn), die terugkeert naar New York om de dood van haar vader Dracula te wreken op Dr. Van Helsing, vertolkt door Peter Fonda. Visueel is Nadja een buitenbeentje. Almereyda combineert schitterende zwart-witbeelden op 35mm met korrelige Pixelvision-opnames, gemaakt met een Fisher-Price-speelgoedcamera. Het resultaat is een unieke, dromerige low-fi-esthetiek.
In 'Outrage' snijdt regisseur Ida Lupino de thematiek van seksueel misbruik en de nasleep ervan aan op een manier die – zeker voor die tijd – grensverleggend en taboedoorbrekend was. Deze ondergewaardeerde en verwoestend mooie film noir krijgt een gloednieuwe live-score van componiste en elektronische artieste Laryssa Kim. Haar rituele soundscapes, waarin musique concrète versmelt met ambient en breekbare zang, gooien hoge ogen.
Het meedogenloze filmgeweld van ‘The Street Fighter’ ontmoet de beukende percussie en rauwe noise van NAH. Zijn gloednieuwe live-soundtrack katapulteert de grindhouse-klassieker ‘The Street Fighter’ (1974) rechtstreeks de 21e eeuw in. Martial arts extravaganza verzekerd.

‘Live It Down’ comes alongside a visualizer by Jayla Smith and was recorded with Jonathan Rado (Foxygen, Miley Cyrus, Weyes Blood) and Ryan Pollie (Los Angeles Police Department).
Ballgame explains of the song, “It’s about cannibalizing your life and relationships as a songwriter and is, in the gentlest of ways, a middle finger of a break-up song… however, I do subscribe to John Lennon’s quote when asked about writing diss tracks to McCartney, where he said “it’s always about me. I’m attacking myself.” The track itself was extremely fun to make and includes zither tape loops, and Ryan Pollie playing mic’d up furniture. It’s an excellent showcase of the energy of Amy and Wayne’s special drum and bass connection and is glued together by Ryan and Rado’s unique textural production choices.”
For the First Time, Again was recorded with acclaimed indie producer-multi-instrumentalists Jonathan Rado and Ryan Pollie. Known as unapologetic “analog fetishists,” Rado and Pollie shape the sonics of Ballgame’s work with propulsive acoustic guitar, soulful rhythms, colorful keyboards, occasional horns, and lush harmonies, all rendered with the same recording technology as in classic albums of the ‘60s and ‘70s. Drummer Amy Aileen Wood (Fiona Apple) and bassist Wayne Whitaker contribute mightily to the pulse and character of the album.
Ballgame traces the genesis of For the First Time, Again to a pivotal moment that almost didn’t happen. Stuck in his native New England, depressed and isolated during the pandemic, living in his parents’ basement, Ballgame knew in his heart he was destined for a life in music. He’d known it since he was a child growing up with a classically trained music teacher mom, who encouraged him to joyfully perform anytime, anywhere – which he did, to great effect. He’d known it when he obsessively downloaded classic rock from Napster, and when more than one teacher at the prestigious Berklee College of Music told him he had the goods, as both songwriter and vocalist. As Ballgame says, “I think I’m meant to sing for people.”
Post-Berklee musical endeavors were fun, but nothing caught fire. Demons of doubt crept in. At his lowest point, Ballgame toiled on the cover band circuit, playing three nights a week in Rhode Island bars. Feeling he had little to lose, Ballgame applied online for an office job in Los Angeles, where he’d never set foot, and got the gig. With encouragement from a life-changing, body-positive-centric counselor, and the support of his family, Ballgame left the East Coast, he says, “in desperation to find myself.” As traveling companions, he carried books by philosophers Eckhart Tolle (The Power of Now) and Alan Watts (The Way of Zen).
Soon, Ballgame was renting a room at Venice Beach, and slaying at a weekly open mic, playing his own songs. These low-stakes baby steps, Ballgame says, “spiraled out into a community. The move was the best thing that ever happened to me. It opened my eyes to the nature of risk, and the nature of betting on yourself. My whole album is about that experience.”
After a year of growing an ever-larger audience wowed by his extraordinary voice, charismatic stage presence, and catchy repertoire, Ballgame met Eastside L.A. movers-shakers Pollie and Rado. The deeply impressed duo told him, “Let’s make a record – now!” Within a month, Ballgame had written a plethora of new songs.
On For the First Time, Again, Tyler Ballgame and his talented circle of fellow music-makers enthusiastically offer listeners songs to fill them with hope, acceptance, delirious happiness, and support for rough roads ahead. Holy Wave have been key players in the Austin, Texas rock scene for over a decade. Today, the band announce the new full-length, i'm DADA, out July 10, 2026 via Suicide Squeeze Records. They have also shared the single "S33.u.in/HAL," which evolves from shuffling verses to a heavier climax. Recorded in coastal Mexico, it teases the energy of an album that is equally surreal and propulsive.
On the single, Holy Wave's Ryan Fuson shares: “‘s33.u.in/HAL' is like a prayer to the God of shortcomings, a child God that we are raising to one day be our savior. It was one of the first ideas we worked on for the album, but also one of the last songs we finished. I was listening to a lot of Wagon Christ at the time and wanted the song to basically be a Wagon Christ rip-off, but it just didn’t feel right. Big surprise, that was a tall order. So the song was shelved to the ‘maybe the next album’ part of the new song catalog. Then, late in our demoing phase, Joey and Julian showed up to practice with some ideas for it. We played around with them, and the song literally just started to write itself. We finished that day with essentially the song done, sans lyrics and some finishing details, and it instantly became one of our favorites. I still hope we put out the other version some day, but this is by far the better of the two.”
In Ensenada, Mexico, where the Pacific horizon cuts a clean, unwavering line, Holy Wave recorded their latest full-length, i’m DADA, a record that feels both expansive and newly concentrated for the subterranean pop four-piece. Stepping outside the United States was less a retreat than a shift in perspective, creating distance to recognize a new sound that had been slowly taking shape among them. i’m DADA quickly revealed its character: more propulsive, more candid, and their most structurally deliberate work to date.
Working alongside experimental duo Lorelle Meets the Obsolete at their studio El Derrumbe the sessions folded community into the album, though its emotional core had already formed over months of pre-production. Half of Holy Wave is Mexican, with roots in the El Paso border region, so recording in Ensenada felt intuitive and relaxed. Joo Joo Ashworth, mixing engineer and longtime friend, also provided a pivotal presence helping crystallize the album’s rhythmic language and subtly expanding the band’s sound. The songs began reflecting conversations about fatherhood and partnership, breakups and estrangement, the queasy acceleration of AI, and what it means to remain present and principled while the world lurches unpredictably forward.
This tension is not announced but absorbed into the music. Holy Wave stretches their familiar sense of woozy atmosphere into something leaner and more direct. There are more loops and samples woven throughout than before, grooves that feel constructed, cyclical, hypnotic. Some tracks drift toward dub’s elastic spaciousness; others pulse with cinematic downtempo gravity. There is a fresh sense of momentum throughout the record, rhythms that pull forward, dream-saturated textures, sheets of fuzz, and softly suspended vocals.
“dewey’s dirge” unfolds patiently: hazy guitars bloom, a softened motorik pulse moving steadily beneath. The vocals remain submerged, widening rather than exploding. It feels expansive and reflective, a comedown hymn that trades drama for immersion. “i’m DADA,” by contrast, locks into a lean, circular groove. A tight drum figure, rubbery bassline, and clipped guitar phrase repeat until they begin to feel animate. Lyrically, the song circles the complicated devotion of fatherhood, written in a brief pocket of rare solitude for a parent: Always loving (Try to do what’s right) / Always learning (There’s never enough time). “s33.u.in/HAL” plays like a transmission caught midair, faintly mechanical, immersive without ever fully resolving, capturing the album’s central sensation: the act of trying to communicate clearly through static.
If earlier Holy Wave records often felt defined by their sense of drift, i'm DADA feels newly grounded. The album doesn’t abandon immersion; it disciplines it. Grooves settle, repetitions accrue weight, and the music is composed and unshaken amongst its heavier themes. What emerges is not reinvention but a sharpening, with Holy Wave sounding less like a band drifting through atmosphere and more like one deliberately shaping it amongst the chaos.

Met bijdragen van onder anderen Pa Salieu, Lila Iké en Leona Lewis, en met invloeden uit de volledige Afrikaanse diaspora, belooft 'Here Because Of Hope' hun warmste, meest ambitieuze en meest persoonlijke plaat tot nu toe te worden. Eerste voorsmaakje "Only Love" vat die sfeer perfect samen: een ingetogen trompetintro groeit uit tot een onweerstaanbare groove waarin jazz en hiphop elkaar moeiteloos vinden. Op 16 en 17 februari krijgen fans in Ancienne Belgique de kans om deze nieuwe muziek te live te beleven.

Even voorstellen - David Bratzlavsky – Franstalige indie pop uit Gent - nieuwe single ‘Etrangement’
Na een stilteperiode is David Bratzavsky (ex-Sioen, Pornorama, …) terug met een nieuwe single en een nieuwe EP.
David Bratzlavsky (ex-Sioen, Pornorama, …) brengt eigenzinnige Franstalige indie pop uit Gent. Geen nostalgische chanson, geen klassieke indie, maar verrassende songs waarin niets is wat het lijkt.
De muziek van Bratzlavsky neemt je mee op een broeierige reis doorheen Davids persoonlijke universum en unieke klankwereld: een mix van akoestisch en elektronisch, soms dromerig, soms rauw, en altijd een beetje magisch.
Van 2014 tot 2017 trad David op met de band Bratzlavsky met Jan Duthoy, Jakob Nachtergaele en Jeff Goddard, die voordien onder meer speelden bij Absynthe Minded en de Amerikaanse cultband Karate. In die periode maakte hij ook de single Oui Mais, met een videoclip van de Gentse kunstenares Naomi Kerkhove. Een kleine pauze en twee kinderen later, is David terug met nieuwe nummers.
Met de nieuwe EP en de eerste single Étrangement opent David Bratzlavsky opnieuw de deur naar zijn eigenzinnige muzikale wereld, waarin elke song aanvoelt als een kleine reis tussen droom en werkelijkheid.

''Tabula Rasa'' is een protestlied tegen alle vormen, soorten en maten van seksueel geweld in de breedste zin van het woord. De inkomsten die eruit voortkomen worden gedoneerd aan MenAsWell. Seksueel geweld is een onderschat probleem in de samenleving. Overlevers hebben vaak te kampen met (soms levenslange) fysieke, mentale en emotionele klachten zoals depressie, angsten, herbelevingen, dissociatie, lichaamsherinneringen, nachtmerries, moeite met relaties en intimiteit, en ga zo maar door.
We strijden voor meer bewustwording en stoppen niet voordat seksueel geweld uit de samenleving is verbannen. Zodat het niet meer van generatie op generatie wordt doorgegeven en we allemaal veilig zijn, thuis en op straat.

Even voorstellen - Nicolas Bauwens (40) gaat bijna naakt in opvallende videoclip, ‘Alles voor een goeie mop’
De Rekkemse creatieveling Nicolas Bauwens (40) heeft een nieuwe cover uitgebracht van het nummer Just the Two of Us. Opvallend aan de videoclip is dat hij daarin bijna poedelnaakt verschijnt. Enkel een gitaar bedekt zijn intieme delen. "Dat was eigenlijk niet vooraf gepland", vertelt Nicolas. "Door het warme weer liep ik tijdens de voorbereidingen rond in bloot bovenlijf. Plots dacht ik: het zou misschien grappig zijn mocht ik gewoon naakt achter mijn gitaar staan. Het was heel gênant om op te nemen, maar alles voor een goeie mop."
Volgens Nicolas past de ludieke aanpak perfect bij de boodschap van het nummer. "Ik zing dat het leven eigenlijk een klucht is en dat we onszelf niet te serieus mogen nemen. Het leven is kort en onvoorspelbaar. Als je stopt met je druk te maken over kleine dingen, hou je meer energie over voor vrienden, familie en je hobby's." Voor hij de beelden opnam, vroeg Nicolas nog even de mening van zijn moeder. "Ik wilde zeker weten dat het niet te ver ging. Maar zij zag er meteen de humor van in. Het is niet vulgair en het is vooral bedoeld om mensen aan het lachen te brengen."
Ook op zijn werk kreeg de videoclip positieve reacties. "Mijn collega's vonden het grappig. Ze weten dat er een verschil is tussen de Nicolas uit de filmpjes en de Nicolas op het werk. Zolang ik mijn werk goed doe, vinden ze het allemaal prima", lacht hij. Met zijn nieuwe videoclip hoopt Nicolas vooral een glimlach op de gezichten van zijn kijkers te toveren. Cactusfestival 2026, Minnewaterpark, Brugge van 10 juli t-m 12 juli 2026 – Meer dan geslaagde editie, opnieuw vol muzikale hoogtepunten!
EDITORS SLUIT GESLAAGDE 43STE EDITIE CACTUSFESTIVAL AF
Cactusfestival 2026 zit erop. De organisatie blikt tevreden terug op een geslaagde 43ste editie vol muzikale hoogtepunten, ideaal festivalweer en een aantal geslaagde nieuwigheden in het festivalpark.
Onder die muzikale hoogtepunten was er op vrijdag de stomende set van Zwangere Guy als afsluiter en last-minute invaller Glintsal, die de WK-match Spanje-België van de nodige animo voorzag. "We moesten de afgelopen week sleutelen aan de line-up en het festivalterrein voor de Rode Duivels en door de annulering van Action Bronson, maar Glintsal en Zwangere Guy zorgden ondanks de voetbalnederlaag voor een groot feest in het Minnewaterpark", zegt directeur Tim Beuckels.
Ook op zaterdag ging het denkbeeldige dak eraf in het Minnewaterpark, dankzij Madness en GOOSE. "De headliners hebben alle verwachtingen ingelost. GOOSE stond al eerder op Cactusfestival, maar scoort altijd."
De climax kwam er op de laatste festivaldag met Editors. "De tickets voor zondag waren in een mum van tijd uitverkocht. Editors speelt voor volle arena's en festivalweides, maar hier in de intieme setting van het Minnewaterpark kwam de band nog meer tot z'n recht", aldus Beuckels. Wie zin had in iets nieuws, kon terecht op Cactus Oasis, waar voor het eerst live muziek klonk dit jaar. "We hebben daar een line-up geprogrammeerd met te ontdekken acts. Dat viel in de smaak, want het publiek maakte vlot de oversteek."
Dit jaar waren er ook enkele veranderingen in het festivalpark. De Skybar werd vervangen door een imposante sta- en zittribune van de hand van deco-collectief Tentakel en daar werd gretig gebruik van gemaakt. "Nog meer dan anders werden we dit jaar aangesproken op de gemoedelijke sfeer en de leuke nieuwe invullingen in het park. De Panorama, met zicht op het Minnewater, is uitgegroeid tot een van de hotspots om even uit te blazen."
Voorverkoop Cactusfestival 2027 meteen gestart
Een vlekkeloze en net geen uitverkochte driedaagse dus en dat doet al meteen verlangen naar volgend jaar. Cactusfestival gaat in 2027 door op vrijdag 9, zaterdag 10 en zondag 11 juli. Ook nu kan je al je combiticket aankopen aan dezelfde prijs als de afgelopen editie. Combitickets zijn in tegenstelling tot vorig jaar beschikbaar in alle prijscategorieën.

Rock Werchter 2026 – 51 ste editie - Vier dagen muziekbeleving, die verschillende muzikale generaties met elkaar verbindt
nu kondigt hij een deluxe uitgave aan van het album Bennie & De Banaliteit Van Ons Bestaan.
Het album met daarop de singles Ik moet dringend op vakantie, We geve ni op en Waarom ben ik zo destructief?, wordt aangevuld met 3 gloednieuwe nummers, een nieuwe versie van Zoeke naar wa liefde met Glints en live opnames uit de concerten die Yello vorig jaar gaf in de AB en De Roma.
Het ingetogen Niemand weet hoe met moet, het autobiografische Dubbel Y en de nieuwe single Koppigaard stammen uit dezelfde schrijfperiode als Bennie & De Banaliteit Van Ons Bestaan, maar pasten nooit helemaal binnen het strakke kader van dat verhaal.
