Aäron Koch has never had much of a soft spot for duets. 'Echoes', it turns out, had other ideas.
The song has been following him around for years. An early demo never quite settled into place, and when Koch was working on his debut album 'For Once', he dismantled the original arrangement and rebuilt it as 'Longing'. It took returning to that first recording years later for another possibility to reveal itself. Perhaps the song hadn't needed to be rearranged at all. Perhaps it had simply been missing another voice.
Koch found it in Geike Arnaert. He had known Geike for some time and had long admired the particular tension in her singing: a voice that can sound exposed and fragile one moment, then quietly commanding the next. When he sent her the old demo, her answer came back almost immediately: "I'm in."
'Echoes' stays close to that original, shadowy atmosphere. It moves patiently, leaving plenty of air around both singers while a quiet unease simmers underneath. Rather than trading lines in the manner of a conventional duet, Koch and Geike circle around each other. Their voices meet, separate and blur at the edges, giving a song about longing and connection its elusive pull.

OTHELLO is the debut album by pianist and composer Orson Claeys. Bringing together influences from jazz, hip-hop, urban culture, and everyday life, the record offers the clearest portrait yet of an artist shaped as much by the worlds around him as by music itself.
The title refers to Claeys' full name, Orson Dwight Othello Claeys, and reflects the album's central concern: identity. Throughout its eleven compositions, personal experiences, cultural influences, and artistic inspirations converge into a body of work that seeks to understand how an artist is formed, both within and beyond music. Musically, it builds on jazz, strongly intertwined with hip-hop, contemporary culture, and ideas beyond traditional musical frameworks. For Orson, music is not a fixed genre, but an open and evolving form of expression. That philosophy is introduced from the very first moments through the voice of one of jazz's most respected musicians and educators, Dr. Marshall Hawkins.
Claeys first encountered a conversation between John Daversa and Dr. Marshall Hawkins on The John Daversa Podcast through a short clip on social media and was immediately struck by the way Hawkins spoke about music, love, and life. The spoken-word excerpt that opens "INTRO / L.O.V.E." is drawn from that conversation, whose reflections closely echoed the ideas that had shaped Orson's artistic vision and inspired him to reach out about using it on the record.
Before granting permission, Hawkins asked to meet Orson to learn more about the project and its artistic vision. The conversation, shaped by Hawkins' lifelong experience as both a performer alongside artists such as Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Tony Williams, Joe Henderson, Freddie Hubbard, and Pharoah Sanders, and as a dedicated educator and mentor, left a lasting impression. Convinced by the vision behind the project, Hawkins gave his blessing to use the recording, allowing his voice to introduce the listener as a reflection on connection, humanity, and the ideas that underpin the album as a whole.
This broad perspective continues in a series of carefully chosen collaborations. A track like "WHAT A NIGHT" first took shape during a studio session with indie-soul singer Sevens, whose harmonic ideas laid the foundation for the track. As the composition evolved, Claeys felt it called for a stronger hip-hop voice. Through a recommendation from Mixmonster Menno of STUFF., he was introduced to L.A. rapper IAMOMNI, whose contribution brought exactly the energy and perspective the track needed. The result unfolds like a late-night journey through Los Angeles, with IAMOMNI's contribution adding a sense of movement, character, and place.
Elsewhere, "SPIRAL", featuring Belgo-Brazilian vocalist Helena Casella, grew out of a long-standing mutual admiration. Conceived as a meeting point between R&B and jazz, the composition balances the groove and emotional depth of the former with the improvisational spirit and spontaneity of the latter. The collaboration developed naturally from the outset, with Casella instinctively understanding the atmosphere Claeys envisioned while enriching the music with her own warmth and nuance.
A long-held ambition materializes on "SHADOWBOXING", where Claeys is joined by drummer, producer, and one of the key figures in contemporary Belgian jazz, Lander Gyselinck. Gyselinck's work, particularly his collaboration with Zwangere Guy on Pourriture Noble, was instrumental in showing him how the language of hip-hop could coexist naturally with jazz, an idea that runs throughout the music. Drawing inspiration from boxing, the track is a musical equivalent of a fighter's walk towards the ring: focused, intense, and driven by the sense of anticipation that precedes stepping into the fight.
After this heightened intensity, the record gradually moves toward its closing statement. "OUTRO / HANIN", featuring oud player Akram Ben Romdhane, a longtime collaborator whose playing forms a natural bridge between his previous work and the broader musical landscape he's exploring these days. The title references the Tunisian Arabic word hanin, meaning "nostalgia", a fitting conclusion to a work deeply concerned with memory, identity, and personal history.
Beyond music itself, the album is informed by a wider cultural landscape. Urban culture, with its visual language, creative independence, and sense of community, forms an important backdrop. Sport also plays a significant role, particularly boxing and skateboarding, whose emphasis on discipline, focus, and resilience mirrors his own creative process. Rather than being treated as separate influences, these worlds coexist without hierarchy, reflecting an artistic vision that resists rigid boundaries and allows different disciplines, communities, and experiences to inform one another.

Open'er enters October with another mighty drop of acts for its 2027 edition, with The Chemical Brothers added as Thursday headliners. 25 years after their performance at the festival's inaugural edition, the legendary duo will close Orange Main Stage with their spectacular show.

UNDERSCORES
Hailing from San Francisco, Filipino-American artist April Harper Grey started making music as underscores in middle school. For years, she released a steady stream of one-offs via SoundCloud, which endeared her to like minded artists and a burgeoning community of fans, but it wasn't until 2017, with the release of EP "skin purifying treatment", that the project stepped out of its solitary origins and began to capture the attention of a much larger audience. In 2021, underscores released the debut album, "fishmonger", written and recorded in that same childhood bedroom amidst the pandemic. She gained even more recognition with "boneyard aka fearmonger", a collection of seven tracks that manages to sound like both the climax of and the morning after the craziest night of your life. In 2023 "Wallsocket", became one of the critics' favourites, and this year's "U" dove deep into the exploration of hyper-pop and dance music, making it to the Top 5 of albums of 2026.
"When people listen to underscores, I want their initial reaction to be, 'This is ridiculous'. But the more they listen to it, they should hear the nuance in it, the heaviness in it, and I hope they connect with it on some kind of emotional level", says April. From October 21 to 24, Tomorrowland returns to De Rode Hoed during Amsterdam Dance Event, bringing together an immersive exhibition, live radio, and a program that looks back at what the festival has built while celebrating the music of today.
Tomorrowland is bringing its world to Amsterdam, transforming De Rode Hoed on the Keizersgracht into one of the most immersive destinations of the Amsterdam Dance Event. The Tomorrowland Expo unfolds across a series of rooms, each dedicated to a different chapter of the festival universe. Visitors move through installations built around Tomorrowland Belgium, Tomorrowland Winter, Tomorrowland Brasil, and Tomorrowland Thailand, each one capturing the look, energy, and atmosphere of its respective edition. Together, they tell the story of a festival that has expanded across continents while remaining rooted in the essence that set it apart from the very beginning.
One World Radio broadcasts from De Rode Hoed on Wednesday, October 21, Thursday, October 22, and Friday, October 23, going live each day from 12:00. Op haar dertiende bezocht ze in Genua een retrospectieve van Giorgio de Chirico. Dat was het moment waarop ze zelf echt de drang voelde om te schilderen. Sindsdien haalt ze inspiratie uit kunstenaars als Michael Borremans, Marlene Dumas, Botticelli, Vermeer en Rembrandt.

En wat ik zelf heel bijzonder vind: tot nu toe schilderde Gala enkel haar moeder, haar vader en zichzelf.
Vooral haar zelfportretten zijn fascinerend. Ze speelt met verschillende versies van zichzelf, van een art-nouveaumuze uit de belle époque tot haar meest overdreven, lelijke of kwetsbare kant.
"Recently, making self-portraits seemed so self-evident to me. I like playing with myself, the face, grimaces, exaggerations of physical or emotional traits, which personages I can turn myself to... whether it's my art nouveau belle époque muse, or myself at my ugliest, most despicable, I am available to myself endlessly, which is handy."
Voor Gala is elk schilderij ondertussen ook een soort samengebalde levenservaring, vol experimenten, fouten, twijfels en ontdekkingen.
"I realise now, after a period of intense painting, that each painting counts as a condensed experience of life."

Even voorstellen - KRaS! Release single ‘go take the walk’
Ergens tussen energieke rock en poëtische chanson heeft het Antwerpse KRaS! 10 jaar geleden een unieke plek in de muziekwereld ingevuld met hun twee eerste albums.
